Mac, like most other devices from Apple, is designed for personal use. And this means that usually computer owners fine-tune the system for themselves and another user will not be entirely comfortable working with it. If there is a need to completely get rid of the existing data and settings, then you need to follow the simple steps described below.

Clean Install macOS: Prerequisites

IMPORTANT: Before clean install(by reinstalling, flashing, factory reset) Mac, be sure to check:

  • Is the Mac tied to your Apple ID, and not to any other
  • Do you remember the credentials (login and password) of your Apple ID. You can check, for example, by logging in (from a computer).

How to factory reset Macbook, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro (how to reinstall macOS)

1. Make sure you have an internet connection (for later installation of macOS) and an electrical connection for a MacBook.

Attention! The following steps will permanently delete ALL data on your Mac - save ahead of time necessary information on external media;

2. Restart your computer (or turn it on if it was turned off) using the menu  → Reload;

3. During the reboot process, press and hold the key combination that suits you best:

⌘Cmd+R- install the version of macOS that was running on the computer before the problems occurred. Those. your Mac will install exactly the same version as before.

Option (Alt) + ⌘Cmd + R- update to the latest version of macOS that your Mac is compatible with. For example, if the "mac" worked on High Sierra, and the breakdown occurred after the release of the final build of macOS Mojave, the system will download from the Web and install Mojave.

⇧Shift + ⌥Option (Alt) + ⌘Cmd + R– installing the version of macOS that was originally installed on the computer (or the closest available version to it).

Note: macOS Sierra 10.12.4 or later required a new version OS.

In this article, we will install macOS Sierra on a computer using the BDU (Boot Disk Utility) program and a special image for this utility. Finding an image for BDU and the utility itself on Google is very simple.

This is the easiest way to install macOS Sierra on a PC. True, this method will be simple only for those who have hardware compatible for these purposes. In particular, you must have a motherboard with chipsets: H61, B85, Z77, H77, Z87, H87, Z97, H97, Z170. Processor must be at least Intel Core i3. The video card must be compatible. For example, Intel HD 4000 / 4600, AMD 7850, 7870, Nvidia 640, 650, 660 and so on (Kepler) or Nvidia GT 210.

If you are using Fermi video cards (GTX 5XX, 710, 720, 730), then most likely you will not succeed with the installation. These video cards are extremely unstable. I will say the following about Nvidia 730 video cards: this video card can be either Fermi or Kepler. So, if the video card is Kepler, then it will work fine with web drivers. Video cards GTX 9XX, 1XXX work only with web drivers.

Attention! If you are using an NVidia graphics card, then masquerade as an iMac 13.1 or 14.2, other devices may have problems loading, since in most cases Apple uses AMD graphics cards.

Remember, the more compatible your hardware is, the easier the installation will be. If you don't have Intel processor Core, and there is, for example, a Pentium or Celeron, then you will have to disguise yourself as an Intel Core, and if you have an AMD processor, you will have to use a patched core.

Previously, I showed the installation with virtual machine with OS X installed from under Windows. Now we will install using the Boot Disk Utility (BDU) program, and also try to use the standard config from Clover. Let the bootloader determine our hardware. I'll just add a kext to the network.

When installing macOS Sierra, you can ask your questions in the comments, but be sure to describe your computer configuration as fully as possible, for example, I will install it on this configuration:

  • Gigabyte GA-Z87m-HD3
  • Intel Core i3-4330
  • 8 GB RAM (2 x 4 GB, 1600 MHz Samsung)
  • Intel HD 4600 + Gainward GTX 660 Ti
  • 2 monitors (DVI + DVI), as well as a TV via HDMI.
  • 120 GB SSD from SanDisk.

I also want to remind you that just in case you should have a flash drive with all the cakes and the operating Windows system, just in case something goes wrong and you have to download files or programs. Well, or use another device for this.

The Boot Disk Utility program runs under Windows. In my case, I will use Windows 10. We will also need an image with macOS Sierra.

Run BDU and format the flash drive:

Immediately after formatting the flash drive, the latest Clover will be installed on it. And we just have to deploy our image with the macOS Sierra operating system to a USB flash drive:

After we have written our image with the operating system to the flash card, I will upload the kext to the network. This is only needed for my computer and you may also need a kext, it all depends on your network card. By the way, when using BootDiskUtility, the FakeSMC kext is already in the kexts/other folder, so you don’t need to insert it separately.

As soon as the flash card with macOS Sierra is written, we restart the computer and boot from our flash drive (F12). I will boot in UEFI mode. I will also specify the -v switch so that the operating system boots in text mode.

If you are using a non-Kepler NVidia graphics card, boot with the nv_disable=1 key. If your system is stuck on boot, try booting with the -x switch (safe mode).

What to do after installing macOS Sierra?

After installing macOS Sierra, we will immediately install Clover on our SSD and configure config.plist, the config for each computer should be different, in particular, the configs for Ivy Bridge / Haswel and laptops are very different, so it is recommended to read the khaki clover book and do experiments. If your system suddenly stops loading, you can always boot from a USB flash drive and fix config.plist.

I installed Clover with the following parameters:

You need to install the config on the hard drive, not on the USB flash drive. In principle, if you have one, then by default Clover will select it. Also remember, the config example above is for UEFI systems, for Bios Legacy, this Clover installation will not work.

After installing Clover, setting up config.plist and rebooting, we have a fully working system.

Briefly what I did in config.plist:

  • installed 32MB of memory for Intel graphics in UEFI and registered ig-platform-id 0x04120004
  • enabled P-states
  • dropped the extra SSDT tables that were causing SpeedStep not to work for me
  • indicated poppy model iMac 14.2

The kexts that I used when installing and configuring the hackintosh:

  • FakeSMC.kext
  • RealtekRTL8111.kext - network
  • HDMIAudio.kext - TV sound

Everything else works out of the box. In addition to the sound motherboard. I did not start it on purpose, as I use the sound on the TV. You can start the sound using a patched AppleHDA or VoodooHDA.

Remember, the more "correct" your hackintosh hardware is, the easier the installation will be. Installing a hack on my computer is no more difficult than reinstalling Windows. But if you have specific hardware, for example, a PCI Wi-Fi adapter, sound card or something else, then in most cases these devices will not work on a hack.

Mount the downloaded image on the Desktop.
Rewrite Install macOS High Sierra.app to the Programs folder and run the installer.

Create a downloadable installer for macOS High Sierra:

Required Software

Unibeast does not currently support macOS High Sierra Beta, so we will be using workarounds.

So, you will need:

  • macOS High Sierra Beta installation file.
  • A copy of the Clover installation package, available at .
  • A flash drive of at least 16 GB.

Preparing a USB flash drive

First of all, you need to prepare a flash drive. If it contains data, move it to another location.

Connect your flash drive to your Mac, open Disk Utility, and format the drive. Create a single GUID Partition Table and make sure it is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

Create a bootable flash drive

All you need to create a bootable flash drive is the macOS High Sierra Beta installer, downloaded from the Mac App Store. Connect your flash drive to your Mac, open Terminal and type the following command:

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/USB –applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra Beta.app –nointeraction

Enter your account password and press Enter.

Clover installation

After you see “Done” in the Terminal, you can proceed to the next step. Run the Clover installer and follow the instructions on the screen. When the program asks you to specify the installation location, specify the path to the USB flash drive and click "Customize".

Make sure only the following items are checked:

  • Install for UEFI booting.
  • Install Clover in the ESP.
  • Themes (optional)
  • Under Drivers64UEFI check EmuVariableUefi-64 and OsxAptioFix2Drv-64

Setting up the Clover bootloader

By default, Clover may enable features that you don't really need. Therefore, you need to edit config.plist, for which open Clover Configurator and select the "Mount EFI partition" option. Bootloader configurations depend on your hardware.

Usually there is nothing to choose here.

The most popular features that need to be activated are:

  • verbose(-v).
  • nv_disable=1 if your graphics card is from Nvidia.
  • kext-dev-mode=1 to correctly load some drivers.

Check the following items:

  • injection
  • Add ClockID
  • Fix Ownership

Graphics

You can enable InJect Intel or InJect NVIdia. These two items do not affect anything, but in the event of a kernel error, they must be disabled.

Kernel and Kext Patches

Most likely, you need Kernel CPU, KernelPM and Apple RTC. If you have a Haswell processor, also check KernelHaswellE.

This is one of the hardest parts. Choose the Mac model that best fits your hardware.

System Parameters

Make sure "NVIdia" is not selected and "InJect System ID" is active.

Installing macOS High Sierra

Boot the computer on which you want to install the hackintosh from the flash drive you just created. If you did everything right, you will be greeted by the macOS High Sierra installer. Keep in mind that the device will reboot several times during the installation process, so keep an eye on what is selected in the Clover bootloader.

On the first boot select your bootable flash drive, on the second boot select "Install macOS on Macintosh HD" or something similar. After one or two reboots, Clover will have a flash drive and three macOS partitions. These are typically macOS High Sierra Preboot, macOS High Sierra, and macOS High Sierra Recovery. To boot into the operating system, select macOS High Sierra.
