Mother foxconn. Foxconn N15235 - a detailed review of the motherboard. socket. What processors can be installed in it

Having grown to an unprecedented scale, Intel and NVIDIA are gradually ousting other manufacturers from the chipset market. Even until relatively recently, VIA felt almost a monopoly among chipsets for AMD processors. But faster, more reliable and high-quality chipsets of the nForce 2/3/4 series, plus NVIDIA's skillful policy and calculated marketing moves, forced VIA to reduce production by several times and be content with only a small part of the delicious pie that the company got for so long almost entirely.

But today we will talk about another chipset manufacturer, which initially did not set itself the conquest of the market or victory in the competition. The company has been producing affordable, functional platforms for office workstations and entry-level home computers for many years. Probably, everyone has already guessed that this is SiS (Silicon Integrated Systems). Yes, SiS products, as a rule, do not have high performance, but they have a complete set of all necessary functions and always attract with their low price. Today's article is devoted to two new products of the company - SiS649 and SiS661FX, which are included in the basis of Foxconn 6497MB-ERS and Foxconn 661FX7MF-S motherboards.

I propose to dwell on the characteristics of the SiS649/661FX chipsets and the SiS964/965L southbridge in more detail.

The SiS649 chipset is designed to work with Intel Pentium 4/Celeron processors. The official website also contains information that the SiS649 is compatible with a dual-core Pentium D. It is not yet known whether the system will be able to work without replacing the power supply with an additional 8-pin connector, but in the case of Intel chipset 955X, this is a mandatory item. The northbridge supports two types of memory - DDR266/333/400 and DDR II 400/533. The implementation of one or another standard is left to the choice of the board manufacturer. Unfortunately, there is no support for dual-channel architecture. As a graphical interface, the chipset uses the already familiar PCI Express x16.

A few words about the south bridge SIS965L. In practice, there are several configuration options for the SiS649 chipset, in particular, on the Foxconn 6497MB-ERS motherboard, the manufacturer decided to ignore the SiS recommendations, and instead of the SiS965L south bridge, he used a simpler SiS964. But since we've already touched on the SiS965L, let's briefly highlight its advantages, and we'll look at the SiS964 southbridge using the SiS661FX chipset a bit later. So, SiS965L allows you to install up to six PCI slots and up to two PCI-Express x1 on the motherboard. Of course, you are unlikely to find a model with so many slots, and in practice, most likely, there will be boards with 3xPCI + 2xPCI-E combinations. Through the south bridge, you can implement support for two SATA devices with support for RAID 0, 1 and JBOD, as well as eight USB 2.0 / 1.1 ports. Support for 8-channel audio is also announced and local network with a data transfer rate of 10/100 Mbps. Note that the server and south bridge exchange data via a special MuTIOL interface at a speed of 1 Gb / s.

SiS661FX is a system logic set of a later development of the company, respectively, the north bridge does not support DDR II and the PCI-Express interface. Orientation to the office sector emphasizes the built-in graphics, bearing the name SiS Mirage Graphics Engine. The graphics core has hardware support for the DirectX 7.0 API, as well as software compatibility with Microsoft DirectX 9.0. The frequency of the graphics core is equal to 133 MHz. The SiS964 southbridge (used by both boards, as we have already noted) is the previous version of the SiS965L. This means that the SiS964 does not support the PCI-Express x1 interface, and the audio subsystem is narrowed down to six channels. Otherwise, the characteristics of the south bridges are identical. Having looked at the chipsets, let's move on to the specifications of the Foxconn boards.

Both Foxconn models are representatives of products of the lower price range, however, like most motherboards based on SiS chipsets. That is why manufacturers equip their products with only the most necessary. In our case, the boards had:

  • A plug on the back panel of ports;
  • One 80-wire IDE cable;
  • One SATA cable;
  • One FDD daisy chain;
  • Operating and setup instructions.
  • A disk with drivers for controllers and a proprietary SuperUtilities program.
  • One adapter for powering SATA hard drives.

Also included with the Foxconn 6497MB-ERS motherboard, we found a floppy disk with drivers for the RAID controller and a branded insert advertising our products:

Design and layout of elements on the Foxconn 6497MB-ERS board.

The motherboard Foxconn 6497MB-ERS is made according to the microATX standard, fastening to the case is carried out using four bolts.

The small size of the board inevitably led to certain difficulties. For example, a video card installed in a PCI-Express x16 slot automatically locks the latches on the DIMM slots, which prevents the installation of memory modules.

Again, due to its compact size, the motherboard only has two DIMM slots.

A nice aluminum radiator with the company logo is installed on the north bridge. During operation, it is slightly warm, which does not at all mean a bad thermal interface, but rather a low heat dissipation of the north bridge, which has always been characteristic of SiS chipsets.

The southbridge does not have cooling, however, this is not necessary. Although if we compare the temperature of SiS964 with its predecessor SiS962, the heat dissipation of the latter was much lower.

When installing a video card, the cooling system can close the first PCI slot.

FDD and IDE connectors are located at the edge of the board, parallel to the memory slots, which is very convenient. The main 24-pin power connector is also located here. It has a universal mount for all power supplies, both with 20 and 24-pin connectors.

In the lower corner are SATA connectors and a small system speaker is also installed here.

By the way, pay attention to SATA connectors - for ease of installation, the manufacturer turned the second connector upside down.

Unfortunately, the functional panel is neither color-coded nor labeled.

There are several jumpers on the board. One is responsible for resetting the BIOS, two for setting up the audio system, and finally, the last fourth is used to enable protection against unauthorized flashing of the BIOS firmware or exposure to a virus. An indisputable plus is the presence of special "ears" for ease of installation.

There are minor changes on the rear port panel, in particular, the second COM port has been replaced with a coaxial audio output and an IEEE1394 port.

Design and layout of elements on the Foxconn 661FX7MF-S board.

The Foxconn 661FX7MF-S model also has a microATX form factor and is fastened with four bolts.

The inconvenient arrangement of certain elements can again be attributed to small sizes. In particular, the Foxconn 661FX7MF-S motherboard has all the same errors as its predecessor. These include the blocking of the latches of the memory slots by the video card, the inaccessibility of the first PCI slot when the video card is installed.

Nevertheless, the board has its own design, which has made a number of changes in the arrangement of elements.

First, let's note the inconvenient location of the FDD connector under the last PCI slot.

The next negative point is the capacitor installed near the processor socket. With a number of coolers, installation difficulties may arise.

But the IDE and the main 20-pin power connector have retained their convenient location.

This time, the jumpers do not have convenient "lugs".

F-panel is devoid of any inscriptions and color coding.

I would also like to note that, despite the use of the integrated graphics core, the heatsink remained slightly warm under load.

On the rear port panel, the second COM port has been replaced with a D-SUB video output.

Of the jumpers on the board, it remains possible to reset the BIOS settings and configure the audio subsystem.

Expansion options for Foxconn 6497MB-ERS and Foxconn 661FX7MF-S boards.

Expansion options for the Foxconn 6497MB-ERS board.

Consider the disk subsystem motherboard Foxconn 6497MB-ERS. Built-in IDE and SATA controllers allow you to connect up to four PATA devices and two devices using the SATA interface. It is also possible to organize a zero and first level RAID array for PATA, as well as RAID 0, 1 and JBOD for SATA hard drives. As a result, six hard drives can be connected to the system.

The motherboard allows you to use eight USB ports, four of which are located on the rear panel, the rest can be connected using an external module, which, unfortunately, is not included in the kit.

The sound is implemented using the Realtek ALC655 controller. There is support for six-channel audio, as well as "Auto Jack Sensing" technology, with which the motherboard automatically detects what kind of audio device is connected. The sound quality does not cause claims.

The board has a 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet network controller Realtek RTL8201BL.

The ITE IT8705F controller is responsible for monitoring the system, which monitors the rotation of two fans and the voltage on the branches + 3.3V, + 5V, + 12V, etc.

There is an IEEE 1934 port on the rear panel, which is routed using a controller from Texas Instruments. Another one can be connected through a special module.

Foxconn 661FX7MF-S board expansion options.

As already noted, both motherboards use the SiS964 southbridge. Therefore, the capabilities of the boards in terms of implementing expansion slots are generally the same. The only thing is that Foxconn 661FX7MF-S does not support IEEE 1394 (although the space for the controller is reserved on the PCB), and the Realtek RTL8201BL network chip has been replaced with the less popular IC+ IP101.

Declared data transfer at a speed of 10/100 Mbps. In other respects, the capabilities of the boards are the same.

Let's move on to the BIOS capabilities.

BIOS and overclocking.

Both boards use Phoenix's AWARD BIOS.

Since the BIOS of the boards had no differences, except for the fact that the Foxconn 6497MB-ERS does not have an integrated graphics core setting, let's consider the BIOS capabilities using the Foxconn 661FX7MF-S as an example.

So, through the main menu, we can get to the DRAM clock / Timing control section, where the user is given the opportunity to configure memory timings. There are only four parameters to choose from - DRAM CAS Latency, which can operate in 2, 2.5 and 3 cycles, RAS Active Time (tRAS) (from 4T to 9T), RAS Precharge Time (tRP) and RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD ).

The Foxconn 661FX7MF-S motherboard allows you to configure the integrated graphics core, in particular, select the amount of memory allocated for storing textures and necessary data, as well as increase the frequency of the graphics core from the standard 133MHz to 200MHz with an intermediate value of 166MHz. However, changing this parameter does not affect the performance of the video subsystem in any way, and, according to the testimony of the EVEREST Ultimate Edition program, the frequency of the graphics chip remains at around 133 MHz.

In the monitoring section, you can monitor the state of the system.

The Frequency/Voltage Control section, which is the most important for an overclocker, does not shine with capabilities and has only two parameters - AUTO Detect DIMM/PCI Clock, which can take the Disable and Enable values, as well as the ability to reduce electrical noise by using the Spread Spectrum function.

The main overclocking functions are concentrated in the BIOS Features section, however, there are not many of them either. The user is only given the opportunity to increase the processor bus frequency and select a divider to set the memory frequency.

The processor power converter is made according to a three-channel scheme, it includes six capacitors with a capacity of 3300 uF, three with 1800 uF, and a few more less capacious ones.

In a practical test, the Foxconn 6497MB-ERS motherboard showed the expected result,

but Foxconn 661FX7MF-S refused to overclock the processor, in the form of the inoperability of the SATA hard drive.

performance and conclusions.

The test bench of the following configuration took part in testing motherboards:

  • Processor: Intel Pentium 4 515 (LGA775; 2.39GHz; 533MHz FSB; 1MB L2; Prescott D0)
  • Memory: 2x256MB DDR400 Hynix (Timings SPD)
  • MP: Foxconn 6497MB-ERS; Foxconn 661FX7MF-S.
  • Video card: Gigabyte Radeon 9600XT AGP 128MB (500/600) and ASUS GeForce 6600 PCI-E 128MB (515/685).
  • Winchester: Maxtor DiamondMAX 10; 200GB; SATA NCQ.
  • Power supply: PowerMan 300W.
  • NVIDIA ForceWare 71.89.
  • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.

First, we want to demonstrate the performance of the integrated graphics used by the Foxconn 661FX7MF-S board. For comparison, here are the results obtained on the video card Gigabyte Radeon 9600XT. All settings were set to default.

In general, these Foxconn motherboards do not have serious flaws in the layout of elements, and the functional set and package bundle is enough to create an inexpensive working computer. What else does a good workhorse need?

All questions, comments and suggestions can and should be asked in

The Foxconn N15235 motherboard, designed for powerful enough computers of the late 2000s, features support for processors of various performance and support for 8 GB installation.

Such parameters looked decent a few years ago - although even now the board's capabilities are enough to work with any office applications and to launch (released before 2010-2011).

Model manufacturer

The Taiwanese company Foxconn is one of the most famous manufacturers.

Although in the range of its products you can find not only these devices, but also video cards, brackets random access memory and even smartphones.

Most of the electronics are made in China, although the company's factories are located in Europe and the United States.

The manufacturer produces gadgets and components for, Gigabyte, and MSI.

And in the 2000s, Foxconn even had games on its product list.

The presence of serious experience in the field of production and assembly of electronic devices allows the company to produce its own models, including Foxconn N15235 boards with the previously popular LGA 775 socket.

Technical specifications

The parameters of the motherboard make it universal.

Depending on the parts installed on the device, it can be used to assemble budget computers for offices or mid-level.

Foxconn N15235 boards are bought on the secondary market for self-assembly of a PC or already bundled with a system unit.

One of the main factors that ensure the versatility of the model is its configuration with the G31 chipset from Intel.

The same technical solution provided an affordable cost for the board even at the very beginning of the release.

Now it can be bought for an almost symbolic price.

Board design

Motherboard format- microATX (9.6x8.0"), which allows you to install it in a fairly compact system blocks.

Although, unlike most other devices of this size, this model does not come with integrated graphics. And its design as follows:

  • in the middle part of the upper half of the board there is an LGA 775 socket, into which the processor is installed;
  • on the left side is located, consisting of several stabilizers and capacitors;
  • on the edge of the board, as well as on other models, you can see the ports and connectors for connecting peripherals.

On the right side of the board, next to the socket, there are slots for RAM (2 pcs, support up to 2 GB), behind it there are connectors for connecting power and IDE drives.

Under the socket for the processor is the northbridge, to the right of it is the southbridge.

In the same part on the board there is a battery, ports for hard drives SATA and connectors for connecting buttons and other devices from the front panel.

Chipset and Processors

Connecting peripherals

For connecting peripherals to the motherboard It has several connectors and ports:

  • 2 PS/2, with which you can connect;
  • 4 USB 2.0, providing speeds of reading and writing to flash drives up to 480 Mbps or connection various devices– from manipulators to smartphones;
  • standard RJ-45 port, allowing you to connect to the network;
  • COM and LPT connectors, to which you can connect legacy devices, such as a mouse or printer;
  • three ports to which speakers and a microphone are connected.

From this list, you can understand that the possibilities for connecting peripherals in the Foxconn N15235 are practically not inferior to modern motherboards.

Moreover, even such outdated devices can be connected to its connectors and ports, work with which new equipment does not support.

Is it not enough USB port 3.0 with a high data transfer rate, while a computer with such a board can receive after installing a video card.

Expansion slots

On the board, you can see several slots in which additional devices are installed.

Including graphics, sound and network cards.

Due to the fact that the motherboard does not have, in the PCI slot Ex rev. 16X video card must be installed.

Models with 512-1024 MB GDDR3 are quite suitable for such a device.

The presence of one more slot, PCI Express rev. 16X, makes it possible to expand the functionality of Foxconn N15235 using a TV tuner, network adapter or another board with additional ports.

And three old PCI-slots allow you to install outdated types of controllers.

Memory support

The slightly outdated layout of connectors and ports of the board includes only two slots for memory sticks.

Another reason for this limited expansion capability is the space-saving microATX form factor.

You can install up to 2 GB in each of the slots.

Memory type - DDR2, supported frequencies - from 400 to 800 MHz.

In this way, the maximum value of RAM is 4 GB- too small for a 2010s gaming PC, but more than enough for last decade's games and work applications. at 2 GB and a processor with 2 or 4 cores, the "motherboard" allowed you to run games such as CS:GO, « Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit" or Gothic 3.

The board also copes with the launch of a more modern version of the famous series TES V: Skyrim (2011).

Moreover, with the same 2 GB video memory, the computer will even launch the third part of the game. Crisis, considered one of the most resource-demanding in the early 2010s.

Although the settings will be far from the maximum, and it is advisable to choose a quad-core processor, a chip with one core will not cope with the task.

Rice. 6. System unit with N15235.

You can assemble on the basis of such a board and an inexpensive computer to perform a number of simple tasks.

For example, to work with, and even non-professional photo and video processing.

So, for web surfing and watching movies in 480p-720p quality, a PC with 1-2 GB of RAM and a not-too-powerful video card is enough; to play video in FullHD, you can install a processor with 2-4 cores and 4 GB of memory.

You should know: When expecting to watch videos or run games in the highest possible quality, it is advisable to take into account that the 1920x1080 format is not supported by all monitors - only devices with a diagonal of at least 22.

This review will be devoted entirely to such a computer component as the Foxconn N15235 motherboard. It is on the example of this component that the strengths and weaknesses of the products of this manufacturer will be given. This will allow you to make recommendations regarding the purchase of his products.

Brief introduction about Foxconn

Custom assembly of various electronic devices is the main specialization of Foxconn. Motherboards, graphics adapters, smartphones, Cell phones- this is not a complete list of equipment that is manufactured at the production facilities of this company. Moreover, the list of Foxconn clients includes Apple, Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI. With such rich facilities for assembly and testing of manufactured equipment, this company decided to expand the scope of its business. So there was a series of motherboards under the Foxconn brand. One of them is N15235.

What kind of PC is this motherboard suitable for building?

At the time of its release, the Foxconn N15235 motherboard was focused on installing the most productive processors. It was also possible to supplement such a computer system with a high-performance graphics adapter. All this together made it possible to create the most productive personal computers on the basis of this solution. It could be a workstation, and a graphics station, and gaming computer capable of running any of the most demanding toys in existence at the time. The same motherboard could successfully act as a link in a mid-range and entry-level PC. Only in this case, the use of such an expensive and functional computer component was not entirely justified. Its main purpose is the creation of high-performance computer systems.

The location of the elements of the system board

The Foxconn motherboard of this model is manufactured in the microATX form factor. Its dimensions are 9.6 inches by 8.0 inches. Almost in the middle of the top of the product is the processor socket LGA 775. To the left of it is the CPU, which consists of several solid capacitors and semiconductor stabilizers. Even further, at the very edge of the board, there are interface wired ports. To the right of the socket, 2 slots for installing RAM are grouped, behind which are the power connectors and IDE drives. Directly under the processor socket for installing the CPU is the chipset. Slightly below it, expansion slots are displayed. To the right of them are the south bridge, the BIOS battery and the ports for connecting SATA drives. Here, on the very edge, there is a connector for switching the front panel of a personal computer case.

Chipset and its characteristics

The Foxconn N15235 motherboard is based on a set of two chips. The description of this product indicates that the G31 from Intel acts as the northbridge in this case. Its key component is the memory controller. The TDP of this silicon chip was 17 W, and the system bus frequencies in this situation could be 800 MHz/1066 MHz/1333 MHz. In this case, ICH7 takes the role. Its main task is to connect peripheral devices and controller boards in expansion slots.

socket. What processors can be installed in it?

An impressive list of CPUs is supported by the Foxconn N15235 motherboard. The description of this product indicates that this list contains all chips intended for installation in this processor socket. The most productive solutions of this platform are the quad-core Core 2 Quad. A step lower from the standpoint of performance is Core 2 Duo, in which the number of computing units is reduced to two. The CPU of the Pentium Dual Core line had an even lower level of performance. They had exactly the same number of cores, but the frequencies were reduced and the cache memory was cut. The most affordable dual compute chips for the LGA 775 were the Celeron Dual Core. They had even less cache than older CPU models. Yes, and the frequency has been further reduced. The segment of single-core processors was occupied by Pentium 4 and Celeron. Any of the above models with an Intel chip could be installed in such a motherboard. But still, taking into account its positioning and level of functionality, it was preferable to use it in combination with 2 and 4-core CPU models of this platform.

Peripheral set

The list of wired interface ports on this motherboard was as follows:

    2 PS / 2 ports for connecting a manipulator to a PC (it was green) and a keyboard (purple port was used for these purposes).

    One COM port (its second name is serial) and one LPT port (or, as it is also called, parallel). With their help, it was possible to switch various input / output devices to a computer system (plotter, scanner, printer).

    4 ports of the USB format, if necessary, could replace the COM port or LPT port for connecting similar input / output devices to a computer system.

    Also, this product was equipped with one RJ-45 port for connecting a PC to a computer network.

Expansion slots

An excellent set of expansion slots was included with the Foxconn N15235 motherboard. Its characteristics indicate the presence of such of them:

    PCI Express 16 X is the only and main slot for installing a discrete graphics accelerator that processes the images displayed on the display.

    Also, this motherboard was equipped with one PCI Express 1 X slot. The latest modifications of additional controllers (for example, a TV tuner) should be installed in it.

    But to install outdated modifications of controllers, this product was equipped with 2 PCI expansion slots at once.

Regarding the expansion slots of this board, one important feature should be noted: if you use a high-performance video card in such a computer system that occupies 2 expansion slots at once, then it will no longer be possible to install an additional expansion controller in the PCIExpress 1 X slot.

RAM

Only modules of one type of RAM were supported by the Foxconn N15235 motherboard. The characteristics indicated support for DDR2. Moreover, it was possible to install only the strips "DDR2-667" and "DDR2-800". It was preferable to use the latest modification of the RAM, which allowed in practice to obtain a certain increase in performance. The maximum amount of RAM that can be installed in such computer system was 4 GB. This limitation was primarily imposed by the CPU, which could address this amount of RAM at most. The RAM controller itself was a key component of the northbridge of the chipset. It was dual channel. Accordingly, the use of two 512 MB sticks instead of 1 1 GB module made it possible to obtain an even greater increase in performance, which could reach 15 percent.

Connecting the front panel of the system unit

As noted earlier, the front panel of the PC system unit case is connected in the lower right corner of the system board. All necessary designations are marked next to the corresponding connectors. So, this Foxconn motherboard cannot stand out with something unusual against the background of similar products. Connection is provided for the following elements of the front panel:

    Speaker (system event signaling speaker).

    Power Switch (PC power button).

    Power LED (indication of turning on the PC).

    Reset Switch (button for forced reboot of the computer system).

    HDD LED (operation indication hard drive or solid state drive).

Power supply and system board power supply

The Foxconn N15235 motherboard is connected to the power supply by two connectors at once. One of them is ATX12V which has 24 pins. The second, in this case, provides additional power to the central processing unit and consists of only eight contacts. Also, when equipping a PC with a high-performance graphics accelerator, it was necessary to connect a third power connector to it.

The Foxconn N15235 is a fairly universal motherboard within the LGA775 processor socket. Specifications, the list of supported processors and other important features of this solution will be discussed in detail later. This component allows you to assemble both budget, entry-level computing systems and premium, high-performance computers.

main parameters

The LGA775 socket underlies the Foxconn N15235 motherboard. The technical characteristics at the same time indicate the support of all possible processor devices for this platform, both outdated and the most recent. The board itself is in the MATX format. As a result, it is universal and allows you to assemble computers of any level.

Chipset and Processors

Intel's G31 chipset is the basis of the Foxconn N15235. Its technical characteristics, as noted earlier, allow the installation of any chip for LGA775. In the latter case, the list of processors includes the following models:

  • Budget Celeron for office and other low-performance computers.
  • Pentium to sell all mid-range PCs.
  • Premium computers within the LGA775 were based on Core 2Duo (2 cores) and Core 2Quad (4 computing units) series chips.

Communications and memory

The Foxconn N15235 motherboard is equipped with a communication set that is relevant even by today's standards. First of all, it is necessary to highlight the presence of a PCI E slot in 16X version for installing a high-performance graphics adapter. He is only one. Also on this solution there is one more PCI E expansion slot in 1X version. In addition, this product is equipped with PCI slots. There are three of them. The list of ports consists of:

  • 2 PS/2 jacks that are used to connect a keyboard and mouse.
  • Four universal, functional USB revision 2.0 ports.
  • RJ-45 network jack for network connection.
  • 3 audio jacks for connecting with external speakers.

The motherboard in question can work with DDR2 RAM. There are 4 such slots, and a bar with a capacity of 4 GB can be installed in each of them. That is, 16 GB can be installed in this board in the maximum configuration. The recommended operating frequency for memory chips is 400 MHz or 533 MHz.

Reviews. Price. Summary

For your computing platform optimal solution is Foxconn N15235. Its technical characteristics are really excellent and allow you to create system units of any level of complexity and performance. But the LGA775 processor socket is now outdated, and for this reason alone, the component considered in this article has lost its relevance. It is this shortcoming that the owners point out in the reviews.

This article focuses on the features of the Foxconn N15235 computer motherboard. Consideration of the main characteristics of this PC component will allow us to evaluate the positive and weak sides of Foxconn's products.

The reader will be able to get useful recommendations that will help him make the right choice when buying a motherboard if necessary.

A few words about the manufacturer

Foxconn specializes in the assembly of electronic devices that are widely used in today's business. This list includes samples such as smartphones, adapters, PC motherboards, mobile phones, tablets, memory modules. The manufacturer's production facilities are designed to produce a wide range of electronics.

With impressive resources for the production of electronic products, Foxconn has entered into contracts for the production of gadgets with such global development companies as Apple, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI. However, over time, it became uninteresting to produce someone else's innovations, and Foxconn decided to expand its presence in the electronic products market with the presence of products under its own brand. So users got the opportunity to get acquainted with Foxconn motherboards. The most common model that hit the domestic market is the N15235 motherboard.

Which PC builds the N15235 motherboard?

The N15235 motherboard was originally designed to create powerful productive computer machines. Also, this element was supposed to provide productive computer equipment with a graphics adapter. All together it was aimed at only one result - the creation of a new generation of computers, which in their properties differ from their ancestors in high performance in relation to the processing of electronic information.

The idea also concerned the creation of computer workstations, and graphic devices, and gaming electronic machines. The motherboard was supposed to be a kind of connecting port between old-style computers and a completely new one.

Characteristics of the structure of the motherboard N15235

The basis of the N15235 motherboard is the microATIX form factor. Dimensional characteristics of the part - 9.6 * 8.0 ''. The motherboard is equipped with an LGA 775 processor socket, which is located in the middle of the top of the board. On the left side of it, the CPU power supply system is visible, it consists of capacitors and stabilizers. On the very edge of the board, you can see the interface wired ports. On the right side you can see two slots for installing RAM. Behind them are the power connectors and IDE-drives.

The northbridge of the chipset is located under the processor socket for installing the CPU. And under it directly placed expansion slots. To the right of the slots is the south bridge, the ports for connecting SATA drives and the BIOS battery, as well as the switching connector for the front panel of the PC case.

Main features of the chipset

The motherboard is based on two microcircuits. The Northbridge in this board model is G31 of the Intel brand, the main component of which is a memory controller (TDP 17W, system bus frequency 800-1333 MHz). The south bridge is ICH7, which is responsible for connecting peripheral devices in the expansion slots.

What processors are installed in the socket?

Motherboard N15235 supports many processors modern devices designed for the LGA 775 socket. It has a wide range of chips. The board is most compatible with quad-core devices, such as Core 2 Quad, dual-core ones - Core 2 Duo, and even with Petnium Dual Core, in which the frequencies are reduced and the cache memory is cut. Also, the board is in contact with dual-core Celeron Dual Core chips, which, compared to the Pentium Dual Core, have even less cache, and the frequency is not too high.

What can we say, even if single-core processors - "Celeron" and "Pentium 4" are compatible with this board. As you can see, the manufacturer counted on the fact that in every existing PC it can be used as efficiently as possible. But still, dual-core and quad-core variations are more appropriate for the intended purpose of operating the motherboard.

List of peripheral points

Motherboard N15235 has several ports:

- for connecting a manipulator and keyboard to a computer - two ports (PS / 2);

- COM - serial port;

— LPT-parallel port;

- USB - port - four pieces;

- RJ-45 - port for connecting a computer to a computer network.

Characteristics of N15235 expansion slots

This motherboard model is characterized by the presence of the following slots:

- PCIExpress 16 X - performs the function of installing a discrete graphics accelerator;

- PCIExpress 1 X - responsible for installing modified controllers in the form of TV tuners;

- PCI - installation of obsolete controllers for the first PCs.

If, along with this motherboard, a high-performance video card of the new generation is used, then the PCI Express 1 X port is inaccessible.

Characteristics of the memory capabilities of the motherboard

The N15235 board supports modules of the same OP type. These are DDR2-667 and DDR2-800. The maximum memory size supported by the board is 4GB. Thus, the increase in memory compared to other board options is 15%. This is an impressive amount of information that can be stored on the hard drives of computer devices.

The process of connecting the front panel of the SB

To connect the front panel of the PC system unit, motherboards are located in the lower right corner. These connectors are respectively signed, which allows you not to get confused during the connection process. This once again confirms the fact that the N15235 motherboard is nothing unusual.

And the buttons are labeled like this:

- system speaker for signaling events - Speaker;

- button for forced restart of the PC - Reset Switch;

- computer power button - Power Switch;

- indication of the functioning of the PC hard disk - HDD LED.

Power supply connection process, N15235 board power supply

To connect the PSU to the motherboard, you need to pay attention to two connectors specially designed for this:

- ATX12V - twenty-four pin;

- eight pin - replacing the first if necessary.

The main features of the N15235 motherboard show that it is truly designed to work in tandem with many existing models. personal computers. But unfortunately, not with everyone in the same bundle, it can show its capabilities to speed up the operation of devices and improve their performance.

It is more compatible with new PC versions than with outdated ones. But this does not mean that it cannot be used in conjunction with them and not give its results. They are, but much lower than can be seen on the latest innovative computer models.

User opinion about the motherboard N15235

Foxconn aimed its work towards the production of inexpensive, but the most functional products. The enticing technical specifications were meant to draw the attention of the end user to the new brand of computer components. And the main task was achieved by the manufacturer. The motherboard has found its application in the assembly of new generation computers. And not only found, but also entrenched in this field, as far as possible.

After all, she basically has no flaws. The only negative is the inability to combine graphics media with an additional controller. What is not essential during operation computer technology. Therefore, a very positive opinion of the majority of computer scientists working in the segment of assembling computers from components from different manufacturers has developed about it.

Comparison of price and relevance of application

The first release of the motherboard, of course, delighted PC builders. Moreover, not only the functionality of the motherboard, but also its price turned out to be acceptable. She was available. It was the low price that prompted it to be used in many PCs based on the LGA 775.

However, at the time of the release of the N15235 motherboard, it had no analogues. It was suitable for performing work of average complexity on a PC. And it was really a big breakthrough in the future development of personal computers.

Progress does not stand still. And Foxconn itself is moving towards continuous improvement of its products. Therefore, it is not surprising that every year more profitable solutions are invented in terms of completing computer equipment. What was useful yesterday is not acceptable today. The N15235 motherboard is no exception. As good as it was when it was first released, it's outdated.

New models of motherboards with more advanced LGA 1150 or LGA 1151 connectors have appeared on the PC component market, which work great with image graphics and sound.

The outdated N15235 board model was the best that Foxconn could create to improve the performance of personal computer equipment. She managed to move the process of PC excellence from a place that other developers supported.

Despite the passed peak of demand, this motherboard is still used in practice by those who still use outdated PCs. You can buy it today for one and a half thousand rubles and at the same time perform elementary work on a computer.
