Installing windows 7 via bios uefi. How to set up the BIOS to boot from a disk or flash drive. Cars with uefi bios

Designed over 30 years ago, the BIOS's basic input/output system is outdated by today's standards. It is being replaced by the UEFI specification, which significantly changes the established and familiar boot procedure. This article is for those who are interested in installing windows 7 on a computer with UEFI.

Replacing an outdated BIOS

The Extensible Firmware Interface was developed by Intel in 1998. Current version The specification is called the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface. Computers released after 2010 are highly likely to work with the UEFI system. Unlike BIOS, new specification codes can be stored both on the motherboard chip and in a special HDD section.

UEFI works with the new GPD markup, which is able to support HDD size more than 2 TB and an unlimited number of partitions. In addition, the UEFI architecture is modular, hence supporting custom applications and drivers.

And, the most important part for this article: the new specification has a built-in download manager. Thereby Windows installation 7 from USB or external HDD does not require third-party bootloaders.

Create a bootable flash drive

To create a bootable flash drive, the Rufus 1.4.3 utility is considered. The program is notable for the fact that it does not require installation, has a very small size and is distributed completely free of charge. Of course, Rufus supports GPT HDD partitioning and work with the UEFI specification. The current version of the utility is available for download from the official website of the manufacturer.

After starting the utility, you must specify the name of the flash drive that will be bootable ( Attention! All data will be permanently deleted from it!), file system (choose FAT32), partition scheme, and system interface (choose GPT and UEFI). Opposite "create boot disk» you need to specify the path to the ISO image of Windows 7.

When all the parameters are correct, you can click on the "Start" button, and the process of preparing a bootable flash drive will begin. This will take some time, depending on the speed of your computer and the USB generation.

In addition to Rufus, you can use the WinSetupFromUSB program. It can also be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. The interface of these two programs is almost the same, so it makes no sense to consider the process of creating a bootable USB flash drive separately.

Preparing for installation

In order to start the installation from a flash drive, you must first configure UEFI. To do this, you need to restart your computer and press F2 or Delete (depending on your motherboard, press both keys to be sure). After these steps, as in the case of the BIOS, you will be taken to the main control menu.

Press F7 or select the "Advanced" section. Next, go to the "boot" menu, select the "USB support" option and install Full Initialization. In the "Secure Boot" menu, set "Windows uefi mode".

Now open the Compatibility Support Module (or CSM) menu and in the "launch CSM" item, select "enabled". Open additional options and in the item "boot device options" select "only uefi". This item will allow you to filter flash drives and HDDs that cannot work with your specification. In the "boot from storage devices" column, select "both, uefi first".

Now you just have to specify the boot priority (boot priority). In the first place, place the bootable USB flash drive, in the second - your HDD. The settings are completed, save them with the F10 key, confirm the decision, and the computer will restart.

Windows installation

If the previous points were followed correctly, after the computer is restarted, the standard installation of the operating system from the USB flash drive will begin. Click "next", "install", accept the user agreement, select full installation.

Now you need to call command line combination Shift + F10 . Next, enter the following sequence of commands:

diskpart (press enter after each command)
sel dis 0
clean
convert gpt
exit
exit

This place is more detailed. With these commands, you will delete all data from the HDD, mark it as GPD and format it for the subsequent installation of the system. Click "update" and "next".

The installation of Windows 7 will begin on your HDD. personal computer. During the installation process, the PC will be rebooted several times, after which you will have to specify its name and password, time zone and set a list of users. Once the installation is complete, Microsoft Update will download and install all the necessary patches and drivers, and you will be ready to use your computer.

Recently, many motherboards have an improved version called uefi instead of the usual bios firmware. The program interface supports the choice of language, allows you to use new types hard drives larger than 2 TB and contains other improvements. If you have installed on your computer latest firmware uefi bios, then we will tell you how to install windows 7 in a few steps.

Benefits of uefi firmware over bios

The advantage of uefi firmware is that it can speed up the loading of your operating system in an extremely effective way. In addition, uefi bios makes it easier to restore information, install updates, and there are other advantages. Experienced users understand the difference between MBR and GPT disks, but don't worry. Just remember that uefi is the real near future and bios is obsolete.

Unpleasant feature of uefi firmware

The saddest feature of this program is the inability to migrate from the installed Windows 8 operating system to a new computer. So if you have 8 preinstalled, then 7 is not so easy for you to install. This is due to the presence of a mandatory protocol that Microsoft now requires from all licensed versions of Windows - download secure boot, which is not available in Windows 7 and is not available in earlier versions of the OS. You can solve this by disabling this option in the program menu. Go to the Security section, disable Secure Boot.

Don't forget to turn on compatibility mode! The route is as follows: tab Advanced - System configuration - Boot Mod (maybe OS Mode Selection).

We set the found option in this way: change UEFI OS (or UEFI BOOT) to "CSM Boot" or "UEFI and Legacy OS", "CMS OS".

Before proceeding, you either need to create a bootable USB flash drive yourself or have a licensed installation disk with this system. Distribution owners are advised to immediately start reinstalling, because the method of how to work with a bootable USB flash drive is described below in the instructions. The installation disk will not cause any problems.

Now let's configure uefi to install from a USB flash drive.

Current Windows 8.1 And Win10 before predecessor Win7 There are many advantages, one of them is working with hard GPT -disks. GPT- this is a relatively new partitioning style, the OS loads faster from such disks, they are more loyal to the data recovery procedure, and they can use the entire amount of disk space if there is more 2.2 TB. Prerequisites for enjoying the benefits GPT : BIOS UEFI on the computer, versions only Win8.1 And Win10, and only them 64 -bit releases.

The first and last conditions are a given, they cannot be bypassed. But with Windows versions, everything is not so hard. On GPT -disk in principle, you can install the edition x64 "Sevens", however, not without nuances. Below we will talk about these nuances, and also look at the universal installation method. Win7 to disk GPT , which will be applicable in most cases, if only computers had BIOS UEFI. Or at least a hybrid BIOS with the support EFI Software in terms of downloading from GPT -disks.

1. Win7 on GPT disks: nuances

To Win7 successfully installed on GPT -disk, in BIOS UEFI must be disabled secure boot - a function that blocks the launch of the device from any non-certified software. What, in fact, is the distribution of Windows 7.

If "Seven" install on an empty, not yet partitioned and not initialized hard disk in compatibility mode BIOS UEFI c Legacy, during installation, the system will automatically create a MBR -disk. And it is on him that the system will be put. However, if in BIOS set hard parameters UEFI- only this mode of operation, while booting from a USB flash drive UEFI, in some cases setting Win7 to an empty disk can go exactly the same as if we were installing system versions 8.1 And 10 . During this installation, the system itself will initialize the disk as GPT and create the necessary EFI -systems technical sections. And in the future when reinstalling "Seven" it will be no problem to stand on GPT -disk with an existing partition scheme. But this is only a part of the cases.

The key points in all this are the right parameters BIOS UEFI and flash drive UEFI with installation process Win7. And if in the latter case there is a universal way out of the situation in the form of programs for recording UEFI -flash drive, then in the case of the settings BIOS UEFI A suitable solution for all cannot be a priori. Here, of course, you need to deal with each PC and laptop individually. However, install "Seven" on GPT -disk is possible without interfering with the settings BIOS, if only there instead of UEFI or compatibility mode deliberately not included normal mode BIOS-Legacy. This possibility exists in the form of an alternative Windows installation mechanism, which is offered by the program. This alternative can also be used in the case of an incomplete implementation on motherboards. BIOS UEFI, and hybrid firmware compatible with EFI only in terms of support for downloading from GPT - disks and installation DVD, but not allowing to boot from UEFI -flash drive.

Below we consider two cases of installation Win7 on GPT -disk:

First- when dealing with empty SSD or HDD (or when the data stored on them is of no value) ;
Second- when on GPT -disk already has markup, in particular, there are technical sections EFI -Windows systems. This is an option without losing data stored on non-system partitions.

2. Bootable flash drive

To carry out our plans, we need a bootable USB flash drive with programs for working with disk partitioning. For this, it is necessary to prepare Live -disk, on board which will be all this toolkit. Perfect option - Live -disk WinPE10 TechAdmin. Its distribution in ISO-image can be downloaded for free here:

We write the downloaded image to a USB flash drive. To do this, we use the utility Rufus. We indicate the flash drive in the first column, below we select the partition scheme - "GPT for UEFI computers". This is the mechanism for creating the same flash drive UEFI, which is essential for BIOS UEFI with selected mode only UEFI. If in BIOS there is and active compatibility mode, you can select any scheme with a bootloader MBR . Then such a flash drive will become universal, and it will be possible to boot from it in the mode Legacy on other PCs and laptops. Next, specify the path to the image WinPE10 TechAdmin. And we press "Start".

While the flash drive is being written, connect the installation ISO -image Win7 to display in explorer.

Open the folder in the mounted drive "sources", and inside it we are looking for a file install.wim- installation WIM -image. As soon as the flash drive is written, copy WIM -image and place it in the root of the flash drive.

Thus, our flash drive will contain everything necessary for installation. Win7. Indeed, in one of the methods described below, the disk on which the system will be installed will be repartitioned.

After putting on a flash drive WIM -image its weight will be approximately 5-6 GB. If it's a flash drive 8 GB, everything is fine. But if there is only a flash drive on 4 GB, after recording WinPE10 TechAdmin go to its root and delete the folder "AdminPE32" .

Now we look at the weight of the flash drive and wonder if it will fit there WIM -image. If it still does not fit, you can try to compress the image. Well, or download an already compressed distribution kit on the Internet with only one necessary edition "Sevens".

We boot from the newly created flash drive. Select boot from .

3. Installing Win7 on an empty hard drive

So, the first way to install Win7 on GPT -disk is the case when we have either a blank SSD or HDD (no markup) , or when everything that is on them is not valuable, and it can be destroyed. On board WinPE10 TechAdmin we start the program.

Switch to utility.

In the first tab physical disk indicate desired disk, the one where we are going to put the OS. Next click "Parts Management".

Then - .

In the window that appears, click the option GUID. Next, tick the options "Create ESP partition" And "Create MSR partition". Top in the block "setting" remove the values from the top three blocks. We press "OK" at the bottom. We confirm actions.

Created a scheme of technical sections EFI - systems consisting of ESP -partition with file system FAT16 And MSR - section. Assign to the first ESP -section of the letter, we will need it in the future. Press , select the letter in the new window, click "OK".

Thus, with the help we have formed the necessary partitions for Windows, but you can allocate the rest of the disk space in a more usable way - with the help of any of those present on board WinPE10 TechAdmin disk managers.

Here is a whole section WITH can be divided into two or more sections.

After that, we return to the program. In the first column of its window, specify the path to WIM - an image on a flash drive. In the second, choose ESP -partition to which we gave the drive letter above, in the third - the partition itself Win7, i.e. future disc WITH . Below in the column indicate the edition of the system. And we press "Installation".

Next, in the column, select UEFI on the right, on the left we look for the default value "Use BootSect...". If desired, activate auto-reboot upon completion of work . As a result, we press "OK".

When this is completed, the computer will restart.

Now you need to boot from the disk where we just put the OS. Next, we will see the preparatory and configuration stages of the installation.

4. Installing Win7 from a GPT disk with existing partitioning

Installation "Sevens" for work GPT -disk - with existing markup, with technical sections EFI -systems (if you already had Win8.1 or Win10 before) , with data on other sections - it will be much easier. Here we need to run the program and, as in the previous case, specify:

Way to WIM-image,
Way to EFI-section;
The path to the future drive WITH;
Editorial Win7 if the distribution provides more than one.

Where to get EFI-chapter? IN previous case with Created a section labeled ESP. But Windows 8.1 And 10 during a normal installation, technical sections are created differently. It can be a schema with two sections − EFI And MSR. Or maybe three EFI , MSR And WRE. In any case, we are only interested in the section EFI what about the file system FAT32.

It is he who must be indicated in the second column.

Specified program sections are formatted. For the first EFI -section, this is necessary so that records about non-existent OS do not hang out in the bootloader. As a result, we click.

We set the bootloader parameters and at the end we start the installation.

Today, the BIOS system is considered obsolete, and is gradually replacing it. a new version– UEFI. With it, the installation of the operating system takes on a different character, so many users face a number of problems during the process. In fact, there is nothing particularly complicated, I think that after the instructions given below, even a not very experienced computer user will be able to make friends with the UEFI BIOS specification. Actually, what to do if the computer has uefi bios, how to install windows 7 in this case, and will be discussed further.

Create a bootable flash drive

First of all, it is necessary, and for this purpose I will use the Rufus utility. You, in turn, can use any other program, for example, WinToFlash or WinSetupFromUSB. So, here's what we do:

  1. The Rufus utility must be downloaded from the developer's site of the same name, and then launched.
  2. Set the name of the flash drive, select the file system (FAT32), the system interface (UEFI), and finally select the path to the ISO image next to Create a boot disk.
  3. After clicking on the "Start" button, the process of preparing a bootable USB flash drive will start, which will take some time.
  1. Reboot the system, press or .
  2. In the control menu, click - "Advanced" - "Download" - "USB Support" - "Full initialization". Also open the "Safe Boot" menu and select "Windows uefi mode".
  3. In the CSM section, set "enabled" in the "Startup" item, and in "Boot Device Options" - "only uefi". For the "Boot from storage devices" option, click "both, uefi first".
  4. In the boot priority, specify your bootable USB flash drive first, and put the HDD in second place.

Installing Windows 7

After correctly following the above instructions, you must restart the computer, which, in turn,. You are required to accept the terms of the license and select the full installation of the operating system. Next, call the command line using the + button combination, then write the commands that you see in the screenshot in the same sequence.

These steps will start installing Windows 7 on your computer. During the process, the system will reboot several times, and at the end you will need to complete the formalities, such as specifying the computer name, time zone, etc. After automatically loading all the drivers, you can start working with the computer.

As you can see, nothing complicated, the main thing is to clearly follow the instructions. Hope everything works out for you!

On some new motherboards for laptops and desktop computers, modern UEFI is used instead of the usual BIOS for all users. When installing the windows 7 operating system on such equipment, a number of features should be considered.

Unfortunately, this factory software is being implemented very slowly on modern systems. Thus, today it is not ready to replace the BIOS. As a result, you may experience problems when loading in the new mode. Questions most often arise from those users who want to install Windows 7 instead of the eighth version of the system that comes with the laptop.

Why you should switch to UEFI

The main reason why you should switch from BIOS to UEFI is the lack of functionality. It is no longer enough for professional work computers that process large documents. They need to ensure maximum performance of all components. It should be noted right away that when booting in UEFI mode, installing Windows 7 on old partitions marked under MBR will not be possible. There are two methods that can be used to solve this problem.

The first option is to copy all important information to additional or external media. The second option will be more labor intensive. To implement it, you will need to convert all partitions using disks or bootable flash drives with special utilities like Paragon. This will allow you to save all the information available on the computer, except for the disk on which the system is installed. To conclude that it is necessary to install a system under UEFI on your computer, you need to figure out what advantages it gives given type preinstalled software versus BIOS.

BIOS: old but effective

It's best to start the review process with the BIOS or basic input/output system. From the name it is quite possible to understand what functions it is responsible for. this system. This software did not appear immediately. The BIOS has gradually evolved and progressed along with the development computer technology. Thanks to this, many users can today use a fairly wide functionality of this system. By itself, this software has not been able to remove all the needs of modern hardware.

Therefore, in parallel, the development of programs and drivers configured directly in the operating system itself was carried out. But it is the BIOS that is responsible for such operations as the initial recognition of the hardware and determining the devices from which you want to boot. UEFI performs similar functions. For its correct operation, the options described above are required without fail.

Extensive UEFI functionality

UEFI - what is it? The abbreviation UEFI in translation into Russian is deciphered as follows: Extensible Firmware Interface. Intel started developing this system back in 2001. At first it was intended for server hardware.

UEFI was created for the reason that Itanium processors could not work with the old software, since the core of the server computer needed a significantly expanded functionality. Users were able to try out the novelty only in 2006 on Apple computers. Then the novelty began to appear in the products of other companies. This is exactly what the word Unifed in the abbreviation says. UEFI was also used in Microsoft products to optimize the installation of Windows 7. It was also used by other software developers.

Benefits of UEFI

Thanks to the newcomer, now installing Windows 7 on hard disks large size became possible. UEFI supports GPT by default. It is under this partition table that the system will be placed. Large hard drives refer to hard drives larger than 2 TB. The old system only supported hard drives, the volume of which did not exceed 2 TB.

This feature is explained by the fact that the BIOS system used partitioning of the MBR type to work with the drive. The size of each record with such a breakdown was 32 bits. Thus, 4 billion sectors were obtained, which amounted to 2 TB. Such a volume to someone today will surely seem redundant. However, this capacity is quite often required by 3d designers and employees who use server hardware.

Thanks to the use of UEFI, the installation of the Windows 7.8, 10 operating system can be carried out on HDD up to 8 billion Tb.

Equipment Compatibility

On modern motherboards, support is provided for both old hardware with MBR partitioning and new hardware with GPT partitioning. The user can now choose the option that is more suitable for his computer. This is possible thanks to UEFI dualbios. This provides the ability to install the Windows 7, 8, 10 operating system on such equipment simultaneously in two modes. The choice of the mode is carried out by the user at loading.

System Interface

The developers not only made some changes to the code. They also completely redesigned the interface. Thus, user interaction has been accelerated. The advantage was also the ability to manage UEFI elements using computer mouse. This makes installing Windows 7 easier and more convenient.

It is enough just to get used to the new style and you will forever lose the desire to return to using BIOS-based computers. Developers in the future promise to create for UEFI additional utilities. Special applications are also being created that, as planned, will provide access to the Internet without installing an OS. This task has already been partially completed, since a network protocol is used to update the preinstalled software.

Additional Windows protection

Another important advantage is the secure installation of the Windows 7 operating system. GPT UEFO uses new standards that allow you to strengthen the protection of the OS from Microsoft. Thus, the chances of leakage and loss of information are several times reduced. This option is included in the software by default, but it can be disabled in the settings if the user wishes.

Orientation and speed

The redesigned basis gives UEFI the ability to speed up the loading of the operating system several times. Navigating the new interface is much easier thanks to the use of bright and visually understandable content. The appearance of each icon began to resemble those used in the operating system. There is also a utility section that has not been used to date. It contains applications that allow you to view additional computer properties, such as the temperature of various elements, installed hardware, and more. The specific set of utilities depends on the type of motherboard you are using and its manufacturer.

Moving from MBR to GPT

The first thing to think about when moving to UEFI is saving important information. If this is not required, you can proceed with the installation. If the computer has important information, you must first backup or repartition the disk using specialized software.

Preparing a flash drive with Windows 7 for installation on UEFI

After you learn all the principles of working with the new software and decide how appropriate it will be to use it on your current equipment, you should proceed to the preparatory stage. To install Windows 7 through UEFI, you will need to have certain skills regarding writing the system distribution.

Users who are accustomed to using flash drives will need to stock up on fresh Windows versions and one of the programs for burning a bootable flash drive. For example, consider the Rufus program. Download latest version programs. You will also need a 4 GB flash drive. Rufus program must be run as administrator.

You will also need to confirm UAC permissions. After that, go to the "Device" section and click on the flash drive of your choice. If you want to install a system with a GPT or MBR disk partition, you must check the corresponding box. By default, it is recommended to install the FAT 32 file system. After that, you need to choose yourself iso image and click on the "Start" button. After the process is completed, the UEFI bootable flash drive will be ready.

To start working, you need to boot correctly. Gigabyte is developing motherboards with Dual UEFI BIOS. Using such equipment, you will simply need to go to the settings by pressing the F9 key and select the desired operating mode. These steps can also be performed on motherboards from other development companies.

Also, fast boot in UEFI mode is often used. To enter this mode, you must select the Boot-devices menu and select a flash drive with a prescribed tag of the mode you need. In the event that the user does not work with the new BIOS, you can deactivate it. In the settings, it will not be possible to disable Lagacy boot even if a UEFI installation of Windows 7 is in progress. Acer was one of the first manufacturers to remove the ability to deactivate modes on their laptops.

You can only use fastboot for selection. At first, GPT partitioning and new built-in protection tools, when installed in this mode, blocked pirated cracks in the Windows operating system. But the hackers still managed to quickly fix the Windows 7 activator. In it, the UEFI mode was fully taken into account. After the user loads the desired method, it will be necessary to perform all other steps when installing the system, which do not undergo any special changes. It is worth noting only the moment that when partitioning a hard disk, the operating Windows system will now create more additional partitions.
