Windows System Restore. System recovery via BIOS System recovery windows 7 via bios

Hello dear readers of the blog site Not so long ago, in one of my articles, I promised to talk about how to restore the windows 7 system if any software malfunctions occur on your computer. This solution is a way in case of malfunctions associated with errors during the installation of updates, incorrect settings changes, as well as when installing either your computer or laptop. This approach can resolve issues that slow down or block your computer.

Many inexperienced users, when such a situation arises, resort to the services of paid computer assistance, while giving a lot of money. However, you can restore windows 7 yourself without spending a penny.

During the procedure, you may encounter the problem of missing a restore point, since protection for the disk on which the operating system was installed was disabled, and, accordingly, the storage of copies of system settings and previous versions of files was also disabled. In order not to encounter such a situation in the future, I advise you to read, .

There are several ways to restore the windows 7 system with your own hands. I will try to describe them in detail below.

Restoring windows with built-in services

There are many useful utilities in the built-in services of the operating system that make it easier to work with a computer, as well as configure and protect it. You can restore windows using the built-in utility only if your computer is not damaged so much that it does not start. If the process of starting the computer occurs in normal mode, but you are sure that you need a rollback, then after loading, right-click on the shortcut My computer and choose the item Properties. You will see a window with basic information about your device, where on the left side select the item System protection, after which an additional window will open Properties of the system, where to press the button Recovery.

These actions will launch the utility System Restore, where to press a button Further.

If you did everything according to the instructions, then the result of the correct actions will be the appearance of a new window with a choice of recovery points. To display all possible points, just check the box next to the item Show other restore points. Knowing the date and time when your operating system began to act up, you can choose a point formed before this event. If you have made a choice, select it and press the button Further.

After all the manipulations, another window will appear in front of you, in which information on system recovery will be summed up. If you are using a password to log in, this window has the option to create a password reset media. Although a floppy disk will be written there, but as you understand, no one uses floppy disks anymore, then you can very well use a USB flash drive. By the name it is clear what it is for.

The last thing to do is to press the button Ready, after which a message will be displayed on the screen that the recovery process cannot be interrupted. To continue the process, just press the button Yes.

Now it remains to wait for the end of the process, after which the computer will restart and information will appear on the screen that the windows recovery was successful.

Restoring your computer from safe mode

There are situations when the computer, when booting up, instead of the usual desktop interface, displays a simple black screen. In this case, you should not be upset, we will come to the rescue . I will not describe in detail how to start this mode, because I wrote a whole article on this topic, which you can read by clicking on the link above. The essence of this method is quite understandable, but for the lazy I will describe the process itself a little.

At the time of booting the computer, press the F8 key several times, after which a list of additional boot options will be displayed. You can choose any mode, since this is not important for recovery. After you have selected the desired item and clicked enter, The system should boot into safe mode with minimal settings.

Next, you need to follow the same steps as described in the first method, since when loading safe mode, the system does not change its work style, but only disables unnecessary files. Actually, with this method, everything is clear.

System restore via BIOS

The latest and most effective way to restore windows 7 system through BIOS. This method will bring the computer to life even in difficult situations, it is enough that it turns on.

The only thing that should be at hand is a boot disk or . I described this method in more detail in, but here I will try to describe this method a little. Before starting the process, insert the disk or USB flash drive into the computer. While turning on the computer at regular intervals, press the key Del or F12 (it all depends on the manufacturer of the computer and the version of the firmware), so you will start the BIOS. After loading, go to the menu Boot/BootDevicePriority and choose from which media the system will boot. If you are using a disk, then select DVD, if a flash drive, then USB HDD. Save all changes and restart your computer. In BIOS, all you need to do is press the F10 key.

After that, the installer window will appear. Here we select the item System Restore and press Further. If you did everything correctly, you will be prompted to select a restore point.

From my own experience, I want to say that it is best to choose the first successful launch. In this case, all programs that were installed while working on the computer will be deleted.

Do not worry about the safety of personal information, it will not be affected. Once the desired point has been selected, press Further, wait for the end of the process and press the button Ready. Actually, this process of system recovery through BIOS is over, all that remains is to remove the media from the computer and change the order of devices from which the boot should be performed in the BIOS settings.

So we looked at the main ways to restore the windows 7 system. If none of them helped you, or during the process you have questions that you cannot solve on your own, then be sure to ask them in the comments.

I would divide the system recovery methods into the following:
1 By loading Last Known Good Configuration
2 Using the "System Restore" mechanism as standard
3 Using the system recovery mechanism is not standard (through safe mode or the original Windows 7 installation disk)
4 With the help of a previously created system backup.

1) Let's say you ran into a problem in Windows 7 and wanted to restore the system to working order, the easiest thing to do is to boot into Safe Mode and load the last known good configuration, to do this, when the operating system boots, press the key F8 and select "Last Known Good Configuration", press "Enter".

Last Known Good Configuration is a recovery option designed to boot the computer using the last correctly working system settings. Booting in Last Known Good Configuration mode restores system registry information and driver settings that were in use the last time the system successfully booted. Use Last Known Good Configuration when Windows 7 cannot boot normally due to incorrect changes.

2) In case the first method is not suitable or did not help, you can restore the Windows 7 system using the " System Restore» The principle of operation of this recovery method is quite simple, recovery occurs due to the created recovery points. A restore point captures the state of the system at a specific point in time. Restore points are created automatically by the system, but they can also be created manually (This article is devoted to this). You can start System Restore in several ways - The first way, you need to click "Start" and in the search bar write "System Restore", a menu will appear at the top "System Restore" click on it with the mouse. The second way is to go along the way "Start - Control Panel - Recovery - Start System Restore". A window will open "System Restore", press "Further", you will see all possible restore points to which you can return / “roll back” if you click on the button "Search for affected programs", you can see which programs will be affected by system recovery (I recommend choosing recovery two, three days before the problem with the system). After selecting the date, press "Further".

Confirm the restore point by clicking "Ready"

Then a message will appear stating that System Restore cannot be interrupted, click "Yes", then the process of recovery and reboot of the system will begin.

After the reboot, in case of successful recovery, a window will appear.

3) If you have been affected by a virus and you are not able to start system recovery using the above method, then you can “roll back” the system using Safe Mode or using the operating system disk:

We enter safe mode (by pressing F8 at the very beginning of the system boot) and select "Computer Troubleshooting", a window will open

- We insert the original installation disk with the operating system (it must match yours), boot from this disk (for this, in the BIOS we change the boot from the hard disk to boot from CD / DWD). Select the language, then in the window "Installing Windows", choose "Recoverysystems".

After that, a window will open "Windows 7 System Recovery Options".

So, no matter which of the methods you used, the result is the same - in front of you is a window "Windows 7 System Recovery Options",

I propose to disassemble the possibilities of this window a little.

Launch Recovery- analysis of malfunctions that interfere with the normal loading of Windows 7 and their further correction for the normal loading and operation of the operating system.

System Restore- that's what this article was written for, with the help of this function we can use the restore point to return the system to an earlier period of time when there were no problems.

Restoring a system image- this tool allows you to restore the system from a backup. More details about this method are described in the 4th recovery method.

Windows Memory Diagnostics- checks system memory for errors.

Command line- allows you to load the command line and with it you can delete files that interfere with loading Windows 7.

Click on "System Restore", then a window will appear stating that "rollback" system can fix problems... click « Further", select the desired restore point.

After that, we agree with everything proposed, including the reboot and as a result of all these actions, when loading Windows 7, we see the window

4) Restore using a previously made backup, creating a backup is described in more detail in the article. Plug in USB storage device, press "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Recovery". If the system does not start and there is no way to boot the system, you must follow the third paragraph of the article, just select Restoring a system image.

In the window that opens, select " Advanced recovery methods".

Then a window will appear asking you to reboot the system, click " Restart".

After the restart, you must specify the system recovery settings. I recommend leaving everything as default and just clicking " Further".

At the next step, the system itself will find the archive of the system.

You can then specify additional options.

After that, confirm the choice and click " Ready".

Confirm system restore, click " Yes".

If all the above methods did not help you, in this case, it remains only to return the Windows system to factory settings, i.e. lose all your data and programs. I’ll make a reservation right away that this method is suitable if you have a hidden recovery volume on your hard drive, it must be provided from the factory. You can see it if you right-click on the shortcut "A computer" and choose "Management - Disk Management"

Below are the hotkeys for factory resetting laptops:

  • Acer- hold the key combination Alt + F10
  • Samsung- F4;
  • Dell Inspiron- when the dell.com splash screen appears, you need to type the key combination Ctrl + F11;
  • HP Pavilion- when turning on, hold F11;
  • Packard Bell- F10;
  • Rover- when starting the laptop, hold down Alt;
  • ASUS- when the ASUS logo appears, press F9;
  • sony vaio- at startup, press F10;
  • MSI- press F3 when starting;
  • Fujitsu-Siemens- turn on, press F8;
  • LG- F11;
  • Lenovo ThinkPad- F11;
  • Toshiba- F8.

I hope this article has cleared your question. How to restore the Windows 7 system and helped return your operating system to the point of stable operation.

Windows 7 is reliable and stable in operation. But it is also subject to failure. There are many reasons for this (the action of a computer virus, incorrect installation of drivers or software, incorrect optimization, etc.). A complete reinstallation of the system will lead to the loss of personal data, all installed programs and drivers. Often, you can solve the problem and return the computer to working parameters using the built-in recovery tools provided in the arsenal of Windows 7. They are much more advanced than in earlier versions of this operating system.

How to restore "Windows 7"? There are several ways. Most of them are accessible and understandable to the average user and do not require special computer skills.

Setting up recovery tools

To avoid losing personal data, you first need to create a copy of the system. This will require:

  • call the main menu of the computer by clicking on the "Start" button;
  • click on the line "All programs";
  • in the list find the section "Maintenance";
  • select the "Backup and Restore" component;
  • at the first start, set the mode "Restore system settings and previous versions of files";
  • save the changes by clicking on the "Apply" button;
  • select a disk to store the backup (it must have at least 40 GB of free space);
  • click on the "Continue" button;
  • upon completion of the archiving process, a copy of the system will be stored on the hard disk, which will be needed when solving the problem of how to restore Windows 7.

Recovery disk and how to create it

The recovery disk will help restore the operating system to working order. To create it you will need:

Take a blank DVD or CD;
. in the "Maintenance" section, click on the item "Create a system recovery disk";
. insert a disc into the drive;
. click on the "Create Disc" button;
. wait for the backup process to complete.

Restoring system operating parameters using the recovery disc

How to restore "Windows 7" if there is no installation disk? The recovery disk will come to the rescue. In order to use it, you must:

Insert a disc into the drive;
. to restart a computer;
. go into the BIOS and change the boot settings, setting priority from CD / DVD;
. when a message appears on the screen about the possibility of booting from a disk, press the "Enter" key;
. specify the language;
. in the next window, select the saved copy of the OS;
. click on the line "System Restore";

Using System Software

The OS has a built-in component that allows you to restore Windows 7 without a disk. It is easy to work with him. To run it you will need:

Open the main menu of the computer using the "Start" button;
. in the search bar located at the very bottom, enter the name of the system utility "System Restore";
. run the component.

Rolling back Windows 7 using a system program consists of several stages:

After starting, the System Restore Wizard window will open;
. continue working with it by clicking on the "Next" button;
. in the window that opens, the latest restore point by date will be presented;
. select it with the mouse and click on the "Next" button;
. if there is a need to roll back to an earlier point, you should check the box "Show other restore points" in the same window;
. to view the changes that will occur after the rollback, select the desired point and click on the line "Search for affected programs";
. confirm the selection of the restore point by clicking on the "Finish" button;
. the system will issue a warning that it is impossible to stop the recovery process;
. to continue, click on the "Yes" button;
. wait a while while the system is configured;
. to restart a computer.

In such a simple way, you can restore Windows 7 on a laptop or computer and return them to working condition.

How to restore the system in safe mode

Sometimes situations arise when the system refuses to boot normally. In this case, the rollback can be performed through safe mode. For this you need:

Turn on the computer;
. before the system boots up, press the "F8" key until the functional menu opens;
. select the line "Safe Mode";
. run it by pressing the "Enter" key;
. restore Windows 7 using a system component.

You can do it in another way:

After entering the special menu, press the "F8" key to find the item "Safe Mode with Command Line Support";
. use the "rstrui.exe" command;
. the system restore wizard will start;
. roll back following the wizard's prompts.

Now you know how to restore the Windows 7 system if its normal boot is not possible.

BIOS setup

Before you start restoring the OS from the installation disk (provided that it exists), you must perform the appropriate BIOS settings, namely, change the boot priority:

Insert the boot disk into the drive;
. enter the BIOS using the "Del" or "F2" key;
. find the section "Advanced BIOS Features";
. go to the "Boot Sequence" subsection;
. set the "First Boot Device" parameter to "CD / DVD";
. exit to the BIOS main menu with the Esc key;

On some computers, to change the algorithm of actions is as follows:

Go to the "Boot" section;
. open the "Boot Device Priority" subsection;
. for the "1 st Boot Device" parameter, set the value to "CD / DVD";
. press "Esc" to return to the main menu and "F10" to save changes.

Changing the BIOS settings helps in solving the problem of how to restore Windows 7 from the installation disk. Below we will tell you what is required for this.

Using the boot disk

If it is not possible to launch a special menu with the F8 key, a boot disk will be required to roll back the system.

After starting the disk, a Windows installation window will appear on the computer screen;
. choose a language;
. continue loading from the disk by clicking on the "Next" button;
. click on the line "System Restore";
. select a recovery option by clicking on the desired option;
. follow the prompts of the recovery wizard.

Windows 7 password recovery

If the password is forgotten and there is no way to boot the system, it will need to be restored. How to recover Windows 7 password? You can do this in a few steps, provided you have a boot disk:

Insert the installation disk into the drive;
. boot from it by first changing the boot priority in the BIOS;
. at the bottom find the line "System Restore" and click on it with the mouse;

. specify the name of the section, for example "222";
. open the registry key "HKEY_Local_Machine";
. find the section "222", and in it the subsection "Setup";
. change the “SetupType” parameter by double-clicking on it with the mouse;
. in the window that opens, set the value to "2";
. close the window by pressing the "OK" button;
. change another parameter "CmdLine", setting the value "cmd.exe";
. using the explorer, select section "222" again;
. in the "File" section, use the "Unload hive" option;
. close the registry editor;
. remove the installation disk from the drive;
. to restart a computer.

Access recovery

Corresponding, or rather, changing the registry branch allows you to remove the old and set a new password and create another user. Algorithm:

After rebooting, instead of the usual Windows Welcome window, a command line will appear;
. the "net user" command to display all accounts on the computer;
. change the password for the selected account "net user username new password";
. create a new user entry "net user username password/add";
. add the created account to the "net localgroup Administrators username /add" administrator group;
. delete the created account from the group of ordinary users "net localgroup Users username /delete";
. close the command line;
. normal Windows boot will go;
. use the credentials of the newly created administrator to log in.

How to restore the Windows 7 system, namely a forgotten password, if you are dealing with a localized Russian version? You need to use the same commands, only change the value of "Administrators" and "Users" to "Administrators" and "Users".

There are many ways to restore the OS. But no matter how reliable they are, it is desirable to prevent a failure in the system. And then the question of how to restore "Windows 7" will disappear by itself.

Some users in their life are faced with the need to restore the Windows system. In this article, we will look at what a system restore is, how to do it, and all the additional points of this issue.

Content:

What is it for? System Restore can help if your computer has stopped working properly. This state is caused by the installation of virus software that makes changes to the PC registry or inept / harmful actions of the user himself.

When might you need a system restore?

  • The computer is hopelessly buggy, slows down, does not boot.
  • After installing a program, windows began to pop up reporting errors at the RAM level.
  • The computer boots up to the windows welcome window, after which the computer restarts.

Windows System Restore- this is the restoration of the state of the OS, files and programs on the computer to the moment when the malfunctions began. Sometimes the user does not correctly understand the meaning of system restore and means by it the return of a previous version of Windows. For example, from windows 8 to windows 7. In fact, when you restore the system, its version does not change.

There are many ways to “breathe life” into your operating system, but we will look at 2 of the simplest rollbacks of a Windows system:

  • System recovery with BIOS
  • Recovery using the command line.

It should be noted initially that windows 7 system recovery can only be performed if the recovery function (service) was started earlier, before the problems appeared. If it was not enabled, then it will be possible to roll back only using the Windows boot disk.
To activate the Windows Recovery Service, you need to go to the "Control Panel", this can be done from the "Start" menu. Next, look for an icon called "System Restore". Next, click on the tab called "Start recovery", the system will give us a message - the recovery service is disabled and offer to activate it.

Usually, when you first start Windows, a restore point is saved, even if the restore feature has been disabled. To see a list of your restore points, you need to click the "View other restore points" button.

If this function has already been launched before, then we can immediately start the system recovery procedure. Click "start system restore", select a restore point, click "next" and "finish". The recovery process has started, as soon as it ends, the computer will restart, after which you can get to work.
What to do if system restore does not work?

The most common problem is that the recovery service is not enabled. How to activate it is written above.

Of course, the possibility of its complete inoperability cannot be ruled out. Very often this can be found if a non-licensed version of windows is installed.

Is it possible to restore a system without a restore point?

Most likely, you have already entered the system recovery center, activated the recovery service and found that there is no backup point - which means you cannot choose which state to roll back the system to. Don't worry, your system can still be restored!

Restoring a system without a restore point can be done using the command line. It is recommended to strictly follow the instructions so as not to break anything. How to roll back the system using the command line, we will consider below.

By the way, it is not necessary to use a disk, you can do a system restore from an image by first transcoding it and writing it to a USB flash drive.

Windows recovery software

If your operating system is not completely dead, i.e. it still loads and works somehow. Or, for example, the system recovery tools built into Windows do not help - try using special Windows recovery programs, such as:
1. - a program that will help you both restore the OS (registry, boot areas, access rights), and scan your PC for viruses and file errors.
2. - this software is focused mainly on backup, files, logical drives (partitions), but Acronis can also restore Windows and even Mac.

How to do system restore through bios?

The huge advantage of this method is the successful recovery of the system even in the most difficult cases, the main thing is that the computer or laptop turns on.
Make sure you have your Windows installation disc (boot disc) handy and insert it into your drive. Now we need to enter the BIOS. When starting the computer, press the F12 key, go to the Boot -> BootDevicePriority menu - select the DVD drive in the first place if you are using a disk, if the USB flash drive is a USB HDD.

We restart the PC again, the Windows installer should now start. Often, when the PC boots up, an inscription in English pops up, which requires you to press any key to start booting from the disk. If this is not done, the computer will continue to boot in normal mode from your HDD after 10 seconds, and not from a bootable USB flash drive / disk as we need.

So, we booted from the disk and now select the "System Restore" item in the installation menu, click "Next". After that, you have to choose a restore point, it is best to use the first successful launch, but the programs you need may not have been installed there yet. Those. you will lose the programs (and data in them) that you installed after creating the restore point. Again, click "Next", now the system will be restored. When the process is completed, click "Yes, done". We reboot the system, after removing the disk / flash drive from the drive.

System restore via command line

This method is recommended if there is no system restore point. Again, we need a boot disk with the Windows operating system. It is the one that is installed on the computer.
You can check the OS version by right-clicking on the “My Computer” icon and going to the “System” tab.
If you have a system restore point, then you just need to boot into command line mode (to do this, press the F8 key when loading the OS and select “Boot in safe mode with command line support”). Then enter the command "rstrui" and follow the instructions.

1. If the boot sector of your OS is damaged.
Type “fixboot” on the command line, press “Enter”, then type “fixmbr” and press “Enter”. Everything, the boot sector of your windows is restored, you can restart your computer in normal mode.

2. If the boot.ini file is missing.
Type "bootcfg /rebuild" on the command line and press "Enter". We answer all possible questions of the system by entering "Y" and pressing the "Enter" button.

3. If your config is corrupted in the system32 folder.
We insert the disk with your version of the operating system into the drive, enter "cd repair copy SYSTEM C:\windows\system32\config" in the command line, press "Enter", you're done!

4. If the files “ntldr” or “ntdetect.com” are missing and the system displays messages like: “NTLDR is missing when Windows boots”.
Type in the command line "copy J:\i386\ntldr C:\", press "Enter" (Where J is the letter of your drive, and C is the letter of your system drive where your OS is installed).

If you do not want to restart your computer, then you can restore the system through the command line from windows. We insert the disc into the DVD-ROM, while the computer should be booted. Now you need to start the command line. To do this, in the "Start" menu, click "Run" or press the hot key combination "Windows + R".
Enter the following value there: "sfc / scannow", click "OK" After that, all broken system distributions will be copied from the boot disk automatically. System restore, rollback is quite fast and hassle-free.

How is system recovery different on laptop brands: Asus, Acer, Lenovo, HP, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Bell, Dell, Vaio, etc.?

I want to note that there are no major differences here. There may be different BIOS versions, but the intuitive interface and tab names are saved there. With this, there shouldn't be any problems.
The second point is the BIOS entry key, they differ for these manufacturers. But this is not a problem either, you can see what you need to click on the picture that appears when loading.

  • Acer-F2;
  • Dell - F2 or F1;
  • Toshiba - F1 or Esc;
  • Sony - F1, F2 or F3.

Sometimes, after a system rollback, when you first start your laptop or computer, a message with this error pops up - this means that the recovery was not completed successfully and strongly recommends trying again with a different restore point.

Try restoring to a different, earlier restore date. If after that such an error pops up, then the problem is much deeper. This means that the problem is viruses in your system that have corrupted the information about system restore points.
