Move the taskbar to the bottom of the screen. The most efficient way

The appearance of the taskbar in Windows 7 is different from the taskbar in Windows XP. In Windows 7, it has an elegant, translucent look.

However, there is no separate quick launch bar, as in Windows XP, in Windows 7. Program shortcuts are placed directly on the taskbar, along with the tabs of open programs. And putting a shortcut to the programs you use every day on the taskbar is easy.

Left-click on the icon of the desired program on the desktop, and, without releasing the mouse button, drag the icon down to the taskbar (shown with a red arrow). Then release, and the shortcut will remain on the taskbar, becoming available at any time.

When, however, the shortcut on the taskbar becomes unnecessary - click on it, without releasing the left mouse button, drag the shortcut up and "throw" it on the desktop. The shortcut will immediately disappear from the taskbar.

Practice - the first time you may not succeed. Sometimes the taskbar will slip away if the settings say: Automatically hide the taskbar. By the way, you can customize the taskbar as you like. I'll show you how to do it.

Right-click on the Start button. A context menu will open, in which you select the Properties link.

The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window opens. If you want the taskbar (the strip at the bottom of the screen) to be visible all the time and not disappear anywhere - then check the box in front of Lock the taskbar, and uncheck the box in front of Automatically hide the taskbar.

If you want the taskbar to appear only when you move the cursor to the bottom edge of the screen (desktop), then vice versa - uncheck "Lock the taskbar", and check the box in front of "Automatically hide the taskbar". The rest of the taskbar settings are less important, so I won't dwell on them.

How to Install Quick Launch in Windows XP

You say: I don't have such a panel! So it's not activated.

To activate the quick launch bar, anywhere on the taskbar, (but right-click. The context menu of the taskbar will open. Select Properties.

The Taskbar Properties window opens.

Here, check the box next to Show quick launch bar. If the checkbox is not checked, then the panel is disabled.

tick (checkbox) opposite Display the taskbar on top of other windows.

And I also check the box next to Automatically hide the taskbar. If you do not put it, then it will stick out at the bottom of the screen all the time. I think it's more convenient when she hides, only you need to get used to it.

The rest of the items on this tab are not so important and understandable without explanation. If you uncheck the box next to Display clock, then your clock will disappear, etc.

Just do not forget to activate all the checkboxes that you have set, click the Apply button, and then OK.

How to add a shortcut (icon) to the Quick Launch bar in Windows XP

To add an icon to the quick launch bar, hover over the desired icon on the desktop, press the left mouse button and drag the icon to the taskbar. When a vertical black line appears, release the button and the icon appears on the panel.

If you decide to move the icons relative to each other, you also grab the icon with your cursor and drag along the quick launch bar, and the vertical bar will move and show where the icon will be when you release the mouse button. This way you can place the icons in the order you like.

Of course, you may like the convenience that the quick launch bar provides and start dragging icons there in unlimited quantities. As a result, icons can fill the entire taskbar, and this is no good!

But there is a way out of this situation! You can hide some of the icons. To do this, hover over the separator (circled in red pencil in Fig. 5). The cursor will turn into arrows pointing left and right. At this point, press the left mouse button and drag the separator to the left. As you move the divider, the icons will begin to hide. I usually leave 4-5 icons visible.

Don't worry about hidden badges - they won't go anywhere! Just click on the arrow (circled in red pencil in Fig. 6) and all hidden icons will appear before your eyes. Press any icon and the program starts!

The taskbar should be located at the bottom of the screen, but it can be placed on the desktop on the side or top, if you prefer. But sometimes the line is moved by accident, as a result of careless user actions. Let's see how to move the taskbar to the bottom of the screen if you don't feel comfortable using it elsewhere.

Panel Properties

The location of any element is specified in its properties. To get to them, right-click on "Start". You can use other methods: right-click on an empty space on the taskbar or use the built-in search in the Start menu. In any case, the following window will appear on the screen:

As you can see, in the properties there is a line "Position". It indicates where the socket with all the components is located - top, bottom, right or left. You need to select the "Bottom" value and click "Apply".

To protect yourself from accidental movement of an element, check the box next to the "Pin" item.

By the way, you can also set auto-hide - the panel will disappear if you do not move the mouse cursor over it.

Manual movement

Usually the panel is not in its usual place due to careless mouse movements. If an item hasn't been pinned, you can easily swipe it up or to the side. The problem is also fixed manually:

Manually return the taskbar to its usual place, then right-click on it again and check the "Pin" box to prevent accidental movement later. The steps are identical for all versions of Windows, from XP to "tens".

If you are still working on Windows XP, then this system has another interesting feature - placing a folder on the side or top of the desktop.

It could also be thrown by accident, as a result, a panel appeared, which displayed the contents of the directory. This is eliminated in a similar way: you need to take the folder and simply pull it to the middle of the desktop.

In the age of computer progress, almost every apartment has such a necessary thing as a desktop computer, and many of them have more than a single copy. Every PC owner likes to have the software tool he uses installed in a way that is convenient for him. But sometimes, with the desktop settings, an unpleasant situation can happen when you boot your computer, you notice that the location of any desktop elements is suddenly not in your usual place, or is completely absent.

Very often this happens with a working panel in programs of the windows family, and this article will help you figure out how to put it back in place if it suddenly moved to an unnecessary area or completely disappeared.

The most efficient way

Switch to the desktop, move the mouse arrow over a free space in your taskbar, it should be free from various icons, tabs, and other elements that are in your panel, then right-click the manipulator and in the open list, see if you have the bird opposite the “Lock the panel” column, if there is one, then you need to remove the mark, then hold down the right mouse button on a clean area of \u200b\u200bthe panel, and with a simple movement move it to the bottom sector of the screen. So that in the future the panel does not walk around the desktop, put a bird in front of the "Lock the taskbar" element.

Reanimate using the Panel Properties

You can return the panel to its rightful place thanks to the "properties" menu, the function is located directly in the taskbar itself, in order to find it you need to go to the desktop, direct the arrow to a clean area in your panel, then right-click on the menu and press to the "Properties" element. A menu with various taskbar settings will pop up on your display, find in the window an item called “taskbar position”, click on the left button, and select the position from the bottom. It is worth noting that in this column you can also adjust the position to the top, left or right, depending on personal preferences. Don't forget to put a checkmark in the "Lock the taskbar" column to prevent further movement of the location of your panel. In addition, you can customize various other elements of your panel in the "Properties" menu.

Move the panel using the Start menu

You can change the position of the panel through the tools of the Start button, to do this, click on the start icon with the manipulator, find the search bar in the menu, and type the phrase “taskbar” from the keyboard. The computer should display a list with settings. In the drop-down list, select "taskbar settings". A menu with the settings of the working panel will pop up on the display, find the column "location of the taskbar on the display" and select the setting "bottom position".

With the main control

This option requires you to log into the control panel. Click on the start icon, in the drop-down list, select the “control panel” item, you can also use the search bar by typing “control panel” on the keyboard, look for the desired item and press the left mouse button, in the window that appears, find the “view” properties, check the box in the “small icons” item, a large list of settings will open, look for “taskbar settings” in the list that appears, click on it. A menu will open with the taskbar settings functions, select the bottom position submenu and do not forget to put the “pin the taskbar” checkbox.

What to do if the panel suddenly disappeared

There are incidents when, when loading windows, you suddenly cannot find the taskbar on the desktop, all the icons seem to be in place, but the panel is nowhere to be found. Do not rush to panic, most likely, you have the "always hide the taskbar" flag activated. Move the manipulator to the sector of the display where the panel was located. When you hover over the area, the panel should appear. You can also use a special button on the keyboard, the key is located between the Ctrl and Alt commands on the right and left sides of the keyboard, it has the windows logo. When pressed, the panel will appear on the screen, so that it does not disappear again, you need to remove the automatic hiding of the panel, to do this, go to the panel properties and in the submenu that appears, uncheck the “always hide the taskbar” box.

In case of emergency

If suddenly all the described methods do not bring results and the panel does not want to move to the position you need or it is completely absent, then loading windows in safety mode can help (when you boot your computer, select the “Safe Mode” mode), start the antivirus and check the system for infectious programs , system restore can also help, you can find it using the search tool, there is a line in the start panel. Enable System Restore and follow the instructions in the recovery wizard.

The taskbar is one of the main mechanisms for managing and interacting with the system in Windows. Therefore, the comfort of your work with the OS and the computer as a whole will directly depend on its settings and the settings of those important elements that are located on it.

Task bar

To go to settings Taskbars And start menu you need to right-click on start button in the lower left corner of the screen and in the context menu that opens, select the item Properties. After that, a window will open in front of you Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, whose component settings we will consider.

By the way, access to the taskbar settings can also be obtained from Control panels by clicking on the item with the talking name Taskbar and Start Menu.

The Taskbar and Start Menu window contains three tabs: Task bar, Start Menu And Toolbars, which are responsible for setting the parameters of the corresponding Windows components.

Customizing the Taskbar and Notification Area

At the top of the tab are settings that are responsible for the design and display of the taskbar.

Pin the taskbar . By checking the box in this item, you can fix the taskbar on the monitor screen in the place where it is located at the moment. In this case, it will be impossible to stretch, move or collapse. As a rule, this item is checked by default. If you want to increase the height of the taskbar (when located at the top or bottom of the screen) or its width (when located on the left or right of the screen), as well as resize the notification area and toolbar, then you need to uncheck this item. After that, you can do all the above operations by dragging the borders of the desired areas with the mouse.

Automatically hide the taskbar. Activating this option will allow you to use the maximum area of the desktop when working, since the control panel will be hidden and will no longer be displayed on the screen on top of all windows. To open the panel in this mode, move the mouse cursor to the edge of the screen along which it is located.

Use small icons. This option allows you to reduce the icons of programs and open applications located on the taskbar. Thus, it is possible to achieve an expansion of the workspace and an increase in the number of displayed elements on the panel itself.

Position of the taskbar on the screen. Allows you to select from the drop-down menu the place where the panel will be placed on the screen. You have four options: Bottom, Top, Right or Left.

Taskbar buttons. At this point, you can choose how the icons of running programs and open windows will be displayed on the taskbar:

  • Always group, hide labels. This mode is activated by default and allows you to expand the free space on the taskbar due to the fact that the icons of similar open applications are grouped, and the icons themselves do not have signatures of their names. For example, if you have several Explorer windows open at once, they will be grouped into one icon on the taskbar, which will be displayed as several rectangles superimposed on each other.
  • Group when filling the taskbar. Unlike the previous version, this mode is more informative for the user. All icons of open applications are located on the taskbar separately and have signatures of the names of the windows in which they are running. Icon grouping occurs only when the taskbar is full and there is no free space to place new icons.
  • Do not group. Grouping icons of open programs does not occur, under any circumstances.

In the middle of the Taskbar tab is the item notification area , which is responsible for setting the display of system icons and background program icons, as well as their messages in the notification area (tray).

After clicking on the Settings button, you will see a window with a list of all background and system application icons, next to which you can select their behavior in the tray from three available options:

  • Show badge and notifications
  • Hide icon and notifications
  • Show only notifications

Below the general list of all icons are items Turning system icons on and off(Clock, Volume, Network, Power and Action Center), as well as Restoring Default Icon Behavior. You can also enable the option Always show icons and notifications on the taskbar.

And finally, in the lower area of the tab we are considering, there is an option setting Desktop PreviewusingAeroPeek. Activating this function allows, when you hover the mouse cursor over the button, Minimize all windows, produce a quick temporary view of the content desktop. At the same time, open windows are not minimized, as happens when this button is pressed, but become transparent.

Customizing the Start Menu

Let's move on to studying the next tab of the window with a telling name Start Menu. As you probably already guessed, options are located here that are responsible for setting the parameters of one of the key components of Windows system management, which is called using the button of the same name located at the very beginning of the taskbar.

The appearance of the Start menu and the elements of which it consists, as well as the behavior of objects and icons in it, is affected by a lot of options that simply would not fit on this tab. This is probably why the developers put them in a separate window that opens after pressing the button Tune. We will talk about this a little later, but for now let's return to our bookmark and consider those few parameters that are nevertheless located on it.

Power button action . Using this item, you can configure the system action that will occur after you press the physical power button located on the computer case. To do this, select any of the six options from the drop-down menu:

  • Shutdown- leads to the complete closure of all programs, exiting the system and turning off the computer. This action is set by default.
  • User change- causes the user to log out of the system to the account selection screen without closing running programs.
  • Ending a session- causes the user to log out of the system to the account selection screen, closing all running applications.
  • Computer lock- leads to blocking the system without closing running programs. The user will need to enter a password to resume work.
  • - leads to the closing of all applications, exiting the system and restarting the computer.
  • Dream- puts the computer into a low power state. At the same time, all parameters of the current session of work are saved, which allows you to quickly resume work in the future.

Confidentiality . This option contains two options that allow you to show or hide recently opened programs, files, or documents on the left side of the Start menu. Everything is simple here - if the checkboxes are checked, then the display is allowed, if unchecked, it is prohibited.

Now let's look at the parameters that are contained in the window Start menu customization called by the above button Tune.

This window contains quite a few settings, but there is no point in considering all of them in detail. Many items have self-explanatory names and do not need any additional comments, but we will still make a little clarification about some of them.

Most of the Start menu settings are related to the display of thematic user folders and menus in it, including: Videos, Music, Documents, Homegroup, Games, Pictures, Personal Folder, Favorites, Recent Documents, TV Recordings and Downloads, as well as basic elements management group: Administrative group, Run command, Computer, Control Panel, Network, Connection to, Default Programs, Help, Devices and Printers.

Depending on the menu item, several display options can be applied to it:

  • Do not display this item
  • Display as menu- the group will be displayed on the right side of the Start menu as a folder with an arrow that opens automatically when you hover the mouse cursor.
  • Display as link- the element will be displayed on the right side of the Start menu as a regular link, after clicking on which, a new window will open with the contents of the folder of the same name.

Highlight recently installed programs . If this option is checked, then the system in the Start menu and the All Programs group will highlight in dark yellow new (recently installed) applications and the folders that contain them.

Search other files and libraries . An item that allows you to expand the search locations for the necessary information or speed up the search process itself by disabling scanning of shared folders.

Search Control Panel Programs and Features . When this option is activated, you will be able to search for the desired objects in Control panels systems.

Large icons . Unchecking this item will reduce the icons of the most frequently launched programs, the list of which is located on the left side of the Start menu. This will increase the number of displayed applications in this list.

Allow context menu and object dragging . Activating this option allows you to call the context menu of Start menu items, as well as drag them with the mouse to various work areas of the system. For example, you can drag the program icon from the Start Menu to the Desktop, or vice versa, add a link to the application to the Start menu by dragging the icon from any open window there.

In addition to the above options, at the bottom of the settings window there are two more elements with which you can adjust the size, or rather the height of the Start menu. They regulate the display of the number of positions in the lists of recently used programs and items.

Customizing Toolbars

As in previous versions of operating systems, Windows7 implements the ability to work with toolbars that serve to quickly launch program components and access resources.

Initially, the system includes only a few standard toolbars: Address, Links, Tablet PC Input Panel and Desktop. But as new applications are installed, the list of these panels will expand. For example, in our case, you see the appearance of an additional iTunes panel.

You can also create your own toolbars. To do this, right-click on an empty space on Taskbars and in the context menu that opens, select Panels and then the command Create Dashboard V.

Controlling the display of toolbars is carried out at an intuitive level. To do this, just uncheck or check the box next to the desired panel and click the button Apply.
