Will there be an update for honor 8 lite. Installing and updating Huawei and Honor firmware. Where can I download the official firmware for my model?

It never ceases to pamper its customers with various new products in the field of mobile phones. The company is accustomed to using the latest technical developments in its devices. This applies not only to the internal filling, but also to the software. In particular, Huawei supplies smartphones with the latest versions of operating systems. This time we will talk about the latest version of Android 8.0 Oreo, which will be equipped with Honor brand smartphones. In many models, this OS will already be available right out of the box, but in Honor 8 Android 8 will appear after a system update.

The Android 8.0 Oreo operating system was announced by George Zao, CEO of Honor in early 2017. Already in May of the same year, several beta versions of this OS were released, and in August 2017 the company officially released Android 8. The company has not yet specified when the update for Honor 8 will be released, but it is emphasized that this will happen in the near future. time. Users will have the opportunity to “make the leap” from an earlier version of Android to version 8. The beta version of this OS for Honor 8 is currently being tested.

As mentioned above, Android 8 for Honor 8 from Huawei is currently being tested, but now you can find out what this OS will be like and how it will be better than previous versions. Innovation begins with the name itself, which became OREO. This continues the fun tradition of naming the new version of Android after a popular sweet, and this time the OS is named after the world-famous OREO cookie.

The OS has received not only obvious updates, which the user will be able to notice in the interface itself, but also system ones, due to which the phone’s operating capabilities, its security and performance will be improved. Let's look at all the most important innovations in more detail below.

Visible innovations

The new version of Android 8, which Honor 8 phones will soon receive, has received a number of updates that significantly expand the capabilities of this OS. The most obvious innovations include:

  1. Updated settings menu. Now the interface of the system root menu has become even simpler: the number of items in the menu has been reduced from 26 to 13.
  2. Added " Picture in Picture" Thanks to this function, the user will be able to work with several applications simultaneously. For example, you can communicate via messenger without stopping watching videos on YouTube.
  3. “Smart” text selection has appeared. The essence of the innovation is that it will make it much easier to work with text and context menus. Namely: when you select an address, the context menu will offer to immediately copy and open it in Google Maps. Also, when copying the phone, the system will offer to call the subscriber, without the need to copy the number into the device;

  1. The list of emojis has been replenished with 60 new pictures;
  2. It is now possible to configure access to applications directly from the lock screen;
  3. The design of some interface items has changed. In particular, the panel in the Play Music application has acquired a wide color palette.

Safety

Google has removed the option from Android 8 version "Allow unknown sources". Due to this, users are protected from potential malicious software that can be installed on the phone under the guise of important system updates from a third-party source. Option "Install unknown applications" is now tied to an application, before installing which the system will ask the user for permission to install.

This ensures that the user can independently control the installation of programs without the risk of unauthorized installation of potentially infected software. Also significantly improved is the Verify Apps application, which checks installed applications for hidden security risks. If the program detects any risk, the applications will not be installed on the phone.

Bootloop protection

There are times when Android is overtaken by software problems, among which one of the most common is the cyclic reboot of the phone without the ability to start the system correctly. This is called Bootloop. This phenomenon occurs due to damage to the OS system software. A common cause of a bootloop is the installation of software incompatible with the system, custom firmware, and infection from malware on a smartphone.

Previously, to combat the Bootloop problem, the user had to contact a service center. This version of Android has an option in the firmware "Rescue Party", which controls the boot process of the phone and if the phone is rebooted several times, it boots the system in safe mode. This function significantly increases the security of data installed on the phone.

Performance

In this OS, special attention was paid to performance capabilities. In particular, the developers stated that all smartphones running Android 8 will receive double the speed of the entire system, which will make downloading files, as well as the overall operation of applications, faster. These statements confirm the results of testing the OS in various benchmarks, where it demonstrates high performance indicators.

Thanks to energy-saving technology " Doze» significantly increased battery life. This technology is responsible for economical battery consumption. Also, some system applications are equipped with technology that significantly reduces the load on the device’s processor.

In addition, the system has improved the communication capabilities of smartphones in terms of Bluetooth and WI-FI. For example, when you connect other devices to your phone via Bluetooth, the smartphone will display the battery level of these connected devices. Regarding WI-FI, the version of Android in question provides a new Neighborhood Aware Networking technology, which ensures “communication” with other Android devices located close to each other, without additional equipment (routers or access points).

What's in the Easter egg?

Android developers always spoil their users with an original hidden message - an Easter egg. An Easter egg is a type of secret that is made in software or games. This time it is presented in the form of an octopus, which can be moved to different corners of the screen. Most likely, the developers chose this mollusk due to the fact that the number of its legs coincides with the Android version number - 8. In order to launch the Easter egg, you need to take the following steps:

  1. Go to section "Settings";
  2. Select item "System";
  3. Go to section "About the phone";
  4. Having found the item "Android version" You need to tap on it several times. Then a circle will appear on the display, in the center of which you also need to tap and immediately hold your finger. After all these actions, an octopus will appear on the screen, which can be moved in all directions.

Interestingly, in previous versions of Android, Easter eggs were presented in the form of small games. In some, you had to control the Android robot and guide it through obstacles in the form of symbols of the OS version: marshmallows (in Android Marshmallow) and lollipops (in Android Lollipop). But in Android Nougat, users could search for virtual cats on their smartphone.

EMUI 8.0

As mentioned above, Honor 8 smartphones will soon be able to upgrade to Android 8. The transition directly to EMUI 8.0 was made in order to avoid future problems with confusion about which version of Android is used on the phone. The updated EMUI 8.0 will include both all the general innovations of Android Oreo and new proprietary options. In particular, the shell will include functions based on machine learning, due to which system resources will be distributed as rationally as possible, based on user activity.

Also, using this shell, the user will be able to connect his device to another screen and use the desktop.

Firmware is a set of built-in software of a smartphone, tablet or other digital device necessary for its normal functioning. Huawei smartphones and tablets primarily use firmware based on the Android operating system of various versions, as well as the proprietary Emotion UI graphical shell.

How can I find out the current firmware version?

To check the current software version, you need to go to Settings – About phone/About tablet PC – System update. The version is the three numbers after the letter B.
For example, build number V100R001C00B122 means that you have firmware version 122 installed. Any firmware with numbers greater than these is newer.

More details about firmware versions:

So, let's take a look at the firmware numbering for Huawei smartphones. For example, let's take the firmware from Huawei Ascend Mate - MT1-U06 V100R001C00B907.

As you probably guessed, MT1-U06 is the name of the device. MT1 is the main base, that is, Huawei Mate, U06 is a revision of the device. Devices come in different revisions, in this post I will not go into details of their designation, I will only say that the letter U is UMTS (regular 3G), and the letter C is the CDMA version. Devices with revision MT1-U06 are supplied to Russia.

CxxBxxxSPxx - This is the most important option in the firmware, it shows which version of the “base” the firmware is built on. Bxxx - the numerical class of the base for the SPxx firmware - Service Pack number. The higher Bxxx and SPxx, the newer the firmware. (Bxxx has higher priority than SPxx). Cxx is a region of the country.

Next, let's look at the firmware version itself - V100R001C00B907. V100 and R001 are the main version and firmware revision. They change in very rare cases, when there is a big change compared to the previous firmware version (for example, the transition from Android 2.x to 4.x). Even within Android 4.x versions, these values usually do not change.

C00B907 - for most new devices, the value of C00 no longer changes, and in general it means binding to the region. Now the region can be determined in the “Special version” menu item - CUSTC10B907.

So, for smartphones, the Russia region (channel/ru) is CUSTC10. The binding to the region can easily be changed with a special firmware file; in some official firmware there is an update.app file in the cust folder weighing several megabytes or kilobytes, which changes the region to Russia.

B907 is the firmware version itself. I think there is no need to explain that the higher it is, the newer the firmware.

Where can I download the official firmware for my model?

Currently, most smartphones with original software without modified system firmware files receive firmware updates using FOTA updates (Over-the-Air Update). If you received root rights, or you have not yet received the over-the-air update, then you can download the current firmware version yourself from the official website and install it manually.

Official Russian firmware:

You can download the current official Russian versions on the official consumer support website: http://consumer.huawei.com/ru/support/downloads/index.htm.

To search for the required firmware, enter the correct model name in English, for example, Honor 5X, or the service model number, for example, KIW-L21.

The Russian version of the firmware has full localization, a full set of Google Apps services, as well as pre-installed regional applications, such as Yandex search, Odnoklassniki, Vkontakte, etc.

  6. Select the EMUI ROM item in the HiSuite program.
  7. If we DO NOT have a pre-downloaded firmware version, then select the Download ROM item, follow the link and download the required firmware version from the website.
    If we HAVE, or you have just downloaded it, a firmware version, then select the Loading ROM item, we will be prompted to select the location of the firmware file. We find the file and confirm the choice.
  8. The file download process begins.
  9. We are asked to save our phone data. We select the necessary backup items, if necessary, and confirm the choice. Or refuse if we think that we already have saved data. After saving or refusing, select NEXT.
  10. The HiSuite program begins the firmware process.

Important!

  • During the firmware installation process, do not disconnect the cable from either the phone or the computer.
  • Don't touch the phone at all.
  • Do not switch to other processes on your computer.
  • Wait for the firmware to finish.
  • After flashing the HiSuite program, the phone will reboot and enter Recovery mode. A message will appear on the white screen indicating that the phone itself has started flashing the firmware.
  • We are waiting for the successful completion of the firmware in the form of a tick. The phone will reboot itself.
  • We turn off the phone and see a window on it about updating applications. We are waiting for the operation to complete.
  • We go to the settings and in the update item we make sure of the version we have installed.

Possible errors during updating and how to resolve them:

Q: When turned on with the volume buttons held down, the firmware process does not begin.
A: Try writing the firmware file to the dload folder again. If it still doesn't start, try starting the update process through the settings menu.

Q: The device turned off and will not turn on.
A: Wait a few minutes. If it doesn’t turn on, turn it on yourself, the process should continue normally.

Q: During the update, the process froze at some point and does not go further.
A: Wait five to ten minutes. If the device continues to hang, remove and reinsert the battery. For devices with a non-removable battery, you need to press and hold (15 seconds) the power button and both volume buttons.

Tablet firmware update:

  • Only FAT32 format cards can be used. Preferably less than 4 GB;
  • The firmware must be located on the SD card in the dload folder;
  • You cannot use the device’s built-in memory (except for those devices that do not have a Micro-SD slot);
  • The file with the firmware should be called update.zip;
  • During the firmware installation, the device will reboot several times - this is normal;
  • If there are several folders in the archive with the firmware (step1, step 2, etc.), then flash all the files one by one.

In order to install any original firmware, you must do the following:

  1. Copy the dload folder with all its contents to the root of the SD card;
  2. Turn off the tablet;
  3. Insert the SD card if it was removed;

Oreo is already available for Huawei and very soon for select devices, including the Honor series. And while Google's latest software came out in mid-2017, Huawei has only just begun rolling out the update to its devices. Overall, the update is not yet fully completed and is still scheduled for release in the near future. Here's what you need to know about Huawei's latest update - Android 8.0 Oreo.

While manufacturers are still busy working on the original version of Android 8.0 Oreo, Google has just released Android 8.1 for its Pixel and Nexus. In the first months of 2018, the Android O update will arrive on devices from popular Android manufacturers such as Huawei, LG, HTC, Motorola and Samsung.

The latest Huawei devices such as , have already received Oreo, but older devices have not yet seen their updates. While the company has not confirmed the list of devices, Huawei is nonetheless working hard on Oreo updates for its smartphones, just like Honor. Including a new beta update for . Here's everything you need to know about any Oreo updates.

As expected, popular smartphones from all major manufacturers will soon release Android 8.0. Of course, unless they come with new software out of the box. We have seen active work from Huawei, Sony, LG and even Samsung. Some companies have beta tests that are either in full swing or nearing completion. This means that over the next few months of 2018, many smartphones will switch to new software.

However, you are here to know about the Android 8.0 Oreo update for Huawei. We have prepared a list of devices that we think will receive it, as well as those that are not waiting for the update. We will try to update the list as information becomes available, as well as with the release of new updates from Huawei.

UpdateAndroid 8.0Oreo forHuawei

As we've seen in previous years, Huawei updates software quite quickly. And while many were counting on a December release, this did not happen. However, updates are expected to arrive in the first few months of 2018. Why the delay? Well, this is because Huawei offers a customizable and user-friendly interface for Android. It offers a ton of additional features and controls, but at the cost of slower software updates.

Before we get to the new Android 8.0 Oreo or EMUI 8, here's a list of devices we think should expect to receive the Oreo update in the first half of 2018. This list may grow as new updates arrive. Remember that there are multiple versions of some phones, so we won't list them all.

Huawei Honor P8 Lite

And others…

Again, the list is not in strict order and may be missing some smartphones. In addition, phones like the new Huawei Mate 10 have already received Android Oreo.

Finally, we also want to list some smartphones that will not receive the Oreo update. Again, we're not 100% sure about this list, but many phones won't get Oreo. These include Honor 5, Huawei Y3, Honor 7, Mate 8 (possibly) and Huawei Y5, Y6, Y7, but these are just a few. Most of these smartphones are also not available for sale.

UpdateAndroid 8.0Oreo forHuawei: Dates and details

So, when will your Huawei or Honor smartphone receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update? Well, that's a tough question. Android manufacturers are hungry for information, they hide details until the last minute and rarely share the exact details. This is because they change the dates and evolve the update as new bugs are discovered or fixed.

While we've already seen announcements from Sony, Motorola, HTC, Samsung and others, Huawei remains skimpy on details. The only factual information we have comes from Honor, as we mentioned above.

However, the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus versions are already receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo beta, at least in select regions. This is a good sign. This means the company is working behind the scenes as updates get closer to release. As mentioned above, the Huawei Mate 9 update is available for many models. Just go to settings and check for updates.

The situation may change, but with the release of the beta version, we expect official updates for flagship smartphones before the end of February. We will update as we learn more.

What's new inAndroid 8.0Oreo?

Android O offers many new features that you'll want to use to do more with your phone and tablet. Huawei smartphone owners will be able to enjoy faster speeds, longer battery life, picture-in-picture mode, smart text substitution, improved notifications, and auto-fill for the most complex passwords. In addition to everything else.

Linked notifications are easier to manage, and picture-in-picture mode is a great new feature. Here is a list of new features in Android 8.0 Oreo.

Additionally, expect software improvements, bug fixes specific to each Huawei device, and other changes with the Oreo update. Many changes will be hidden behind the scenes, but will have a significant impact on your smartphones and tablets. EMUI will then solve some problems and add several features directly from Huawei. Features specific to your smartphone.

We're glad to see Huawei integrating some of the best features of Oreo into its devices or changing them according to need.

Final thoughts: What's next?

In conclusion, just know that the Android 8.0 Oreo update for most Huawei smartphones and tablets is coming soon. Expect more updates throughout February, with others in March. Most likely, all flagship phones and popular budget smartphones will receive them first, then some of Huawei's less sought-after devices will receive the update. We could see a few updates for tablets and then other devices later in 2018. In addition, the Android 8.1 update is likely to follow this summer.

While Huawei and Honor are two separate companies, they are both working hard to bring the best features and latest software to your device. Again, we expect new releases in the next few weeks or at Mobile World Congress at the end of February. As we learn more and see how updates roll out after the betas end, we'll share the information in this article.

Updating Android to the latest version is a key consideration for many smartphone users when purchasing a new phone. This time we have good news for Honor smartphone owners!

EMUI 8 for Honor?

Android Oreo appeared some time ago, but still many manufacturers have not updated their devices to the latest versions. Honor, which is a sub-brand of Huawei, began the OTA update process for the Honor 9 and Honor 8 Pro on February 7. Smartphones will receive the latest version of Android along with the proprietary EMUI version 8. This process will occur gradually, so not all users will receive Oreo at the same time. If you still have not received a notification about the possibility of an update, then you just have to be patient - it should appear soon.

Update for Honor 9

However, it's not all good news. In the second quarter of 2018, Honor 7 and Honor 8 should also receive an update to EMUI 8. However, in the case of the second device, we cannot be sure that users will also receive Android Oreo along with the latest version of the shell. The Chinese company announced that some smartphones will receive only the EMUI update, and not the entire system.

But it's not all great news. Other smartphones from the company will also receive an update to EMUI 8. We will publish the list a little later.
