Recover any information using Starus Partition Recovery. Hetman Partition Recovery program: recovering data from a mobile phone or tablet memory card

Select a data recovery program - Hetman Partition Recovery, FinalData Standard, GetDataBack

We sometimes don’t think about the information that is stored on computer hard drives, memory cards or flash drives. And this all happens until the moment when she disappears. At this time, it may turn out that there were memorable and expensive photos, important data and files, programs and other information that could be very useful. Sources and copies of documents stored somewhere else can save the situation, but what to do if all the information existed in a single copy?How to recover deleted hard drive partitions?

It is precisely situations like this that make you look for various data recovery programs that will help you recover information from a randomly formatted flash drive after a program failure or a host of other reasons that can destroy larger volumes of necessary data.

In this review, we will try to evaluate the work of three utilities: Hetman Partition Recovery, GetDataBack and FinalData Standard, which are among the most popular.

GetDataBack

GetDataBack is stated in the description as a powerful utility for recovering deleted, lost or damaged information, regardless of whether it was formatted, collected during program operation, or physical damage. In addition, it means that the program has minimum system requirements and can work with all modern versions of Windows. It is also stated that it has an intuitive interface, which we will check further. This is shareware software, which may require a key to operate.

The program exists for NTFS and FAT file systems, and each works exclusively with its own type of file system, so if you want to restore a hard drive or flash drive, you need to download the appropriate software, which is also very inconvenient.

So, the installation of the program is complete and it should be noted that quite a lot of time was spent searching for the Russian version, which is not suitable for everyone, because sometimes information needs to be restored very quickly, and in this case the user faces certain problems.

After launching the program, you need to select a data loss scenario to optimize the operation of the utility. We select “File system loss”, because the flash drive was accidentally formatted.

After the search is completed, detailed information about the file system is displayed

However, at this stage, the average user may have significant problems, because all the files have names different from the original ones, and the “intuitive interface” turned out to be not very clear. However, through trial and error, it was all possible to start the process of copying the recovered files to drive D.

The process has completed and the folder with the saved data should contain all the designated files. We “go” to drive D and see a set of folders (about 250 pieces) with incomprehensible names, each of which contains individual files, the origin and purpose of which is completely unclear. Of all the recovered data, you can select several separate files, the functions of which can only be guessed from the icons.

Summary of working with the program: after recovering files, it is impossible to determine either the volume or quality of information, since it is placed under different names in many folders, which are very difficult to understand.

The functionality of this utility can be given the most unsatisfactory rating, because the “intuitive” interface required a lot of time to understand the principle of operation, and the quality of the work performed can only be assessed by a person who has quite a lot of knowledge about all the intricacies of working with computer programs. It is worth noting that despite the Russified version of the program, the instructions in English will not be understood by the average user, which means there is even less chance of understanding the work.

Final Data Standard

FinalData Standard is intended to restore information deleted by mistake by the user or damaged as a result of an unexpected situation. The program is lightweight and works with all types of Windows. However, it is listed as shareware and does not have a Russian language. There were also problems with searching for a localizer, so let's look at how the utility works and try to understand its English version.

After launch the program looks like this

Based on basic computer knowledge, we find the “Open” button, after clicking on it a window appears in which you need to select the desired disk

Select drive F and see the following window

which also does not add clarity to the process of working with the program, so we just click “OK” and we probably see the process of scanning the disk, where by the way the time is indicated as 14 minutes

Indeed, scanning takes a lot of time, which is unacceptable for many users, because it often happens that files need to be recovered very quickly. As indicated by the program, 14 minutes were spent, after which this information appeared

Again, we intuitively determine that we need to select all the necessary files and click “Recover”. The process of saving data to your hard drive in the selected folder takes some time, but after that you can be sure of the quality of the search. The program “found” the deleted files and saved them in accordance with how they were located on the flash drive earlier, that is, by date.

There is no doubt about the effectiveness of this program, but the search speed leaves much to be desired.

Hetman Partition Recovery

On the official website of the developer of this software, in the description of the software it is stated that it has minimum requirements and works with all modern versions of Windows. In addition, it is also indicated here that the utility recovers data from hard drives and external drives, as well as other devices that are managed by FAT and NTFS file programs.

However, let's run the program and check the quality of its work.

So, the program was successfully installed and launched without any problems. In addition, the functionality provides for the Russian language and there is no need to spend quite a long time searching for a localization tool.

The novice user is provided with the “services” of the File Recovery Wizard, which helps to understand the operating principle of the program and the sequence of actions.

Within a few seconds, the search is completed and after the appropriate clicks on the “Next” and “Finish” buttons, we see the following field

Click “OK” and watch the process of searching for files, which by the way took quite a bit of time

All folders displayed in the working field must be selected and moved to the right side of the working field, and then click “Restore”. Then the program prompts you to select a file recovery method

After all the necessary manipulations with the buttons and choice of location, you can observe the process of saving files. After completing this stage, click “Finish” and check for the presence of files in the corresponding folder

This utility also provides a full analysis, which takes a little more time. This type of analysis has the same sequence of actions and is able to recover lost information in full and save it to a specified disk.

Based on the results of working with this program, we can say that Hetman Partition Recovery shows the best results, searching and restoring files does not take much time, and the interface is extremely clear even to the most inexperienced user.

So, after comparing all three programs, we can conclude that the last utility of the three compared has optimal performance and is suitable for use in any situation, especially when there is a need to urgently recover lost data.

Hetman Partition Recovery Review | Introduction

Losing data is not at all difficult, and there can be many reasons - from hardware failure to a virus or accidental actions. For those who have lost their data on a disk, the first thing they hear is the phrase “should have”: they had to install an antivirus or update its database, isolate the computer from playful/crooked hands, make a backup copy and store it on a flash drive or in the cloud. But, if such a nuisance does happen, there are computer services that can restore data for a fee, and special utilities with which you can try to recover what you have lost yourself.

Editors tested the application Hetman Partition Recovery 2.2. The program allows you to recover files of any type (text documents and spreadsheets, presentations, images, audio recordings, video recordings, compressed files, vector graphics, CAD drawings, etc.) from almost any source - external media or built-in hard drive.

Let's look at these two areas separately to talk about the pitfalls. The first case is built-in storage. Hetman Partition Recovery can recover data from a standard hard drive or solid-state drive connected using a SATA or any other interface (SAS, PATA, SCSI, etc.).

The application works with FAT and NTFS family file systems. Hetman Partition Recovery allows you to recover not only deleted data, but also data lost after formatting or deleting the entire logical partition.

It's important to note that Hetman Partition Recovery is intended only for computers running Microsoft Windows family systems (XP or later, including the not yet released Windows 10). It is not intended to work on other operating systems, both in terms of distribution compatibility and in terms of file system support. That is, this application cannot be used under MacOS X, Linux and other alternative operating systems.

The second option is external media and drives. This can be a USB flash drive, an external HDD or a memory card of any common standard (SD, microSD, SDHC, Compact Flash, Memory Stick) with the FAT or NTFS file system.

In addition, as the developer notes, the program can work with “any other device connected with a USB cable to the computer.” Here, obviously, a caveat should be made that the device must be recognized specifically as an external drive. Some devices with a closed operating system (for example, running iOS or Windows Phone 8) cannot act as a source for data recovery by the program, since they do not provide direct access to their file system.

You can download the program for free to recover deleted data from the developer's website. The size of the distribution is small - only 14.2 MB. During the installation process, entering a license key is not required, but after installation, a limited-functionality version is launched, which allows you to analyze the storage media and make sure that the necessary files can be recovered. As usual, in the case of data recovery programs, you will need to purchase a license to fully operate.

Hetman Partition Recovery Review | Why can data be recovered?

From the point of view of the file system, any file is a sequence of bytes located in data storage cells. The file is stored, as a rule, not as a single block, but in fragments (as the drive is used, files are deleted many times, and a new piece of data is written to the free space over time). The file system table is responsible for the process of reading a file. When deleting from the Recycle Bin, the corresponding place in the table is marked as “free”, but the storage cells of the media themselves still store what was saved on them - until a new piece of data is written to them.

That is why, after deleting a file from the Recycle Bin or if the structure of the file table is damaged, you can restore the lost file using a utility that scans the media and finds the corresponding data fragments.

The success of the recovery depends on how heavily the drive is used, as well as the storage capacity of the drive. For example, the chances of recovering a photo deleted right during the shooting process from a small memory card are much less than recovering a text document stored on the hard drive. Sometimes the file can only be partially recovered (for example, if there was physical damage to the drive). In more common cases (accidental deletion, virus infection, erroneous deletion of a partition or other violation of the file structure) and if the problem is promptly identified, you can count on complete restoration of the “lost” file.

Although the principle of operation of all recovery utilities is generally the same, this does not mean that all programs are equally effective.

Firstly, file recognition algorithms are improving, and in the case of Hetman Partition Recovery the user receives one of the most modern “engines” responsible for recognizing pieces of data based on their content (the developer calls his method “signature analysis”).

Besides, Hetman Partition Recovery pays close attention to nuances that may affect the result. The utility operates in read-only mode, using a virtual image to create and subsequently restore data. This is important because any write operation to the disk can make the problem worse.

When working with worn out or unstable hard drives, another problem may arise - repeated freezes, as a result of which data retrieval can take forever. To avoid this, Hetman software implements the principle of resuming an interrupted analysis process. The information obtained during the analysis can be saved as a separate file and subsequently downloaded for further use.

Note that the interface of the entire application and help files are in Russian. However, most users are unlikely to need to study the documentation for the program: the developers sought to make Hetman Partition Recovery as easy as possible to use.

Everyone always has a choice - to use a step-by-step wizard or the standard program interface.

The wizard is designed for a simplified recovery procedure. First, the user will need to select a drive, then select a scan mode.

The "fast scan" mode lives up to its name: on a 250 GB hard drive it took only 10 seconds. After this, a window opens that resembles a standard Windows Explorer, where deleted files are marked with a red cross.

An “in-depth” analysis takes noticeably longer than a “quick” one: it took us about 50 minutes.

Regardless of whether you use a simplified “Wizard” or a standard interface, the speed of analysis will depend on the size of the scanned area, the characteristics of the drive itself, but most importantly, on the selected scanning mode. Is Deep Analysis worth the time investment? On the one hand, recently deleted files are easily restored in "fast" mode. It’s a different matter when we are talking about a complex case (for example, a document was deleted a week ago or we are talking about a photograph deleted from the camera’s memory card). Here, signature analysis may be the only chance to recover what cannot be restored in the “fast mode”. During testing, we were able to detect and recover files deleted from the hard drive more than a month ago!

Again, a lot depends on how intensively the drive is used. If we are talking about complex cases, before purchasing a license, it makes sense to try a trial version of the program, and if the document is successfully found, purchase a license.

After scanning, you can navigate the directory structure in much the same way as if you were using regular Windows Explorer. Files found for recovery are displayed in the folders from which they were deleted. The preview function allows you to see digital images (in a separate “window” or as thumbnails).

The recovered files themselves can be saved to any available logical partition, burned to CD/DVD, or uploaded to a remote server via FTP, without using additional software. For this task, the "File Saving Wizard" has been implemented.

If you need a program that allows you to recover any file on almost any media, then you are unlikely to find something free or almost free that would work as effectively as Hetman Partition Recovery.

Hetman Partition Recovery Review | Summarize

License cost Hetman Partition Recovery is 3,000 rubles, which is on average lower than similar applications. For example, Data Rescue PC3 from the company Prosoft Engineering also works under Windows, supports FAT and NTFS file systems, can recover data both from a hard drive and from external media and is a worthy competitor for Hetman, if you do not take into account the Russification and user-friendliness of the interface, in which Hetman Partition Recovery vastly superior to Data Rescue. But the main thing is that just six months ago, the $99 that Prosoft was asking for its product was comparable to the cost of a license for Hetman Partition Recovery, and now the alternative version is twice as expensive.

The second well-known competitor is EasyRecovery from the company Kroll Ontrack. The Professional version license costs $149, the Home version costs $79. Both versions work with FAT, NTFS and even HFS (Mac) systems and allow you to recover files of any type, including from external media. The differences between them are insignificant for most potential users (for example, the Pro version allows you to recover deleted emails, virtual machines and hidden system files). But even in the EasyRecovery Home version, the application will cost almost one and a half times more than the flagship product of Hetman Software.

Note that the user can save money and purchase a more highly specialized utility from Hetman Software, for example, with support for one file system - NTFS Recovery or FAT Recovery. Or choose an option that supports only a specific file type (Photo Recovery, Office Recovery, Excel Recovery, Word Recovery). In the event that a crisis situation arises due to the loss of data of a certain type, this will obviously save money. Still, if you purchase data recovery software, it is better to have the most functional version.

Training video on the capabilities of Hetman Partition Recovery

“Nafanya, everything is gone! Everything is lost!" Perhaps expressed in different words, but thoughts of similar content have probably occurred at least once in the lives of many users. They were associated with data loss. Accidentally deleted important files or folders bypassing the Recycle Bin? Did you have to format your hard drive partition? When connected, a flash drive does not want to show its valuable contents and urgently requires formatting for further work? Such situations are not uncommon, but we should not fall into despair prematurely when we have, for example, such a program in our arsenal.

It is developed and supported by Hetman Software. She is far from new to this market. Hetman Software products are in demand in different parts of the world, so it has offices in Ukraine, Russia, the USA and Canada, and the official website additionally has German and Spanish localization.

Hetman Software's arsenal of data recovery tools is very diverse. So, you can purchase complex utilities (Hetman Data Recovery Pack or Hetman Partition Recovery), cheaper versions for working exclusively with certain file systems (Hetman NTFS Recovery or Hetman FAT Recovery) or even more affordable versions for working with a specific type of file (Hetman Photo Recovery, Hetman Office Recover, Hetman Excel Recovery and Hetman Word Recovery). All of them allow you to recover information lost when formatting or deleting a drive partition, a system or hardware failure, failure of the device itself, a virus attack, accidental emptying of the Recycle Bin, or direct deletion from the media bypassing the Recycle Bin. It supports internal and external hard drives, memory cards, USB flash drives, internal memory of devices (tablets, smartphones, MP3 players, etc.), SSD drives, as well as NAS systems and RAID arrays. You can clearly evaluate all the functionality of the different versions and see their cost by following this link. There is also a 50% discount on Hetman Software products until March 31. You can read more about this in the official news at this link. In the meantime, we will move on to a detailed review of the Hetman Partition Recovery program.

Interface and functionality

Immediately after launch, we are greeted by the File Recovery Wizard, which offers step-by-step instructions to recover lost files. It will run every time you start the program, unless you uncheck the “Display wizard at startup” checkbox at the bottom of the window. For now, let’s close it and carefully go through the Hetman Partition Recovery interface.

The program has a comfortable, spacious and high-quality appearance with the possibility of partial personalization. The central place is occupied by a window with a list of all drives used in the system. Partitions of internal drives, connected flash drives or memory cards, and even internal drives of connected external devices are displayed here. Next to them is their full size, occupied space and file system. If you connect a flash drive or other media with a damaged file structure, which is not displayed in the My Computer window at all, then it will be listed here as “Unallocated area” with a designation of its full capacity, which will make it easy to identify the desired device and begin the data recovery process.

Below is the Disk Manager. The above information about drive partitions is duplicated here, with the only difference being that all partitions are grouped relative to their physical disk. For example, the test system used a WDC WD5000AAD HDD, divided into three disks (Unallocated area, Local disk D and Local disk E), an ADATA SP900 SSD with two partitions (System reserved area and System disk C), etc.

As you can see, the sizes of the areas themselves in the interface are not strictly fixed, so they can be adjusted to the required dimensions or completely closed for more convenient use.

On the left is a disk tree that allows you to quickly navigate through directories. It will be especially useful after scanning a certain partition for the presence of deleted files, when Hetman Partition Recovery finds a number of folders and files. It is with the help of the disk tree that it is easy and simple to navigate through the structure, viewing the found data.

On the right side is the File Preview and Recovery List window. The first will be useful for visually identifying a file when its name doesn’t mean anything to you (for example, you need to find a specific photo from those saved on a flash card). At the same time, you can view not only picture files, but also any found documents: PDF, XLS, MP3, DOC, RTF, ZIP and others.

The second window is used if you do not want to restore all files, but only some of them. Here you can sort files by name, type or size (in ascending or descending order), as well as change the viewing mode (large icons, regular icons, list, table, tile).

On the right side, above the designated windows, there is a row of icons that allow you to perform the following actions:

  • change the file display format (page thumbnail, large icons, list, table, etc.);
  • filter the list of displayed files (existing, deleted, both categories);
  • show or hide the Preview window;
  • show or hide the Recovery List window;
  • search files;
  • display HTML help file.

To the left is the address bar and navigation buttons (“Back”, “Forward”, “Last pages” and “One level up”).

At the very top there are buttons for calling key functions: the File Recovery Wizard and the Saving Found Files Wizard. There are also buttons for creating and mounting a real disk image, closing the disk image and going to the user community of Hetman Software products on various social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and VK).

At the very top is the traditional menu bar, which includes five items: “File”, “Edit”, “View”, “Tools” and “Help”. Many of the points duplicate the functionality discussed above, but there are a number of additional features that will be useful to users. Let's take a closer look at the available functionality.

So, the main options for recovering files are concentrated in the “File” menu. The “Wizard” item (“hot keys” − + [M]) launches the File Recovery Wizard, which we will get to know a little later. “Restore” ( + [R]) allows you to launch the Wizard for saving all found files, and the item “Restore from the list” ( +

If you have scanned the desired disk to search for deleted files, but now you do not have enough time for detailed analysis and restoration of the necessary elements, then you can save the analysis information to a file, and later load it and restore the necessary objects.

The “Find disks” item (+ [P]) allows you to scan the selected media for the presence of deleted partitions with different file systems. If you know exactly where the deleted partition was located, then you can scan only a specific area on the media. After scanning, all found partitions will be added to the disk tree on the left side of the main program window, which will allow you to easily interact with their contents.

The item “Create a virtual disk” ( + [N]) can be very useful. It allows you to instantly create a virtual copy of all or part of a specific media in order to continue searching and restoring data from it. This feature provides two important benefits. Firstly, you will protect yourself from accidental overwriting of deleted files, because all operations will be carried out on an exact copy. Secondly, you will be able to restore data to the same physical media, which is impossible if it is directly scanned. For example, your system uses only one drive that is not divided into disks. If you scan it for deleted files, you will need to restore it to another drive (flash drive, optical media, etc.). If you use the function of creating a virtual disk, you can restore to the same drive, which is very convenient and useful.

Another interesting option is the “HEX editor” ( + [H]), which allows you to view the contents of files, partitions or physical disks. It is intended for experts and advanced users. Here they can quickly go to the desired line or sector of the drive, view the contents in HEX or text form using different encodings.

In the “Properties” item you can view more detailed information about a specific physical medium. For example, find out its size, file system type, number of physical sectors, number of bytes in one sector, sectors in one cluster, etc.

In the Edit menu, you can select the entire contents of the active section or folder, invert the selection, or activate the file search function.

The “View” menu will help you personalize the appearance of the program: configure the displayed toolbars (Preview, Recovery List, Disk Manager and others), designate the display mode of files and directories (page thumbnail, large icons, list, table and others), sort elements, and also change the localization language.

There are a total of ten available languages, including Russian and Ukrainian. Slavic localizations are done very competently and accurately, so there are no problems with understanding the functionality by designation.

In the “Service” menu, the main items are “Save disk” and “Mount disk”. They do not have “hot keys”, since these same buttons are additionally located on the toolbar.

The “Save Disk” function allows you to create an exact image of a specific disk or part of it, so that you can then load it into the program using the “Mount disk” option and analyze it to find deleted files. The differences between the “Create a virtual disk” item from the “File” menu lie in the fact that the created real disk image can then be transferred, copied and transferred, but you can interact with a virtual disk only on this computer without the possibility of transporting it.

The “Help” menu offers you to view the help file, go to the official page for feedback from support, visit Hetman Software community sites on social networks, or view information about the current version of the program.

Main functionality

To activate the main function of the Hetman Partition Recovery program, searching for deleted or lost files, you should use the File Recovery Wizard. It can be called from the “File” menu item or through the “Wizard” button on the toolbar.

By clicking the “Next” button, we go to the window for selecting the required disk to scan. Here you can mount a previously saved real disk image or use the search function for a disk on a specific physical medium.

After selecting the required media, a window opens in front of us with a choice of analysis type: “Quick scan” or “Full analysis”. Note that this window opens immediately if you click on any of the drive partitions in the disk tree.

The first type of scanning is carried out instantly, but not all files can be detected. The second type allows you to activate the deep analysis function for a more thorough examination of the selected drive section. This significantly increases the efficiency of the program, but the analysis itself will require some time (in our case, approximately 10 minutes).

Clicking the “Next” button starts the analysis process. Note that Hetman Partition Recovery uses several different algorithms at once (analysis of the file table and its copy, signature search and reconstruction of the file table) to improve the efficiency of its work.

After completing the analysis procedure, you can proceed to saving files. To do this, you just need to click on the “Restore” button on the toolbar or use the “Restore” item from the “File” menu. The Wizard window that appears will immediately suggest a method for saving data: to a drive, burning to CD/DVD, creating an ISO image, or transferring files via FTP. If you check the “Remember my choice” checkbox, then in the future the program will immediately use the specified method.

If you replace the standard method, you should go to the “Tools” menu and find the “Program Settings” item. Then, in the “Wizard” tab, uncheck “Remember recovery method”, which will again return to the initial window of the File Saving Wizard.

If “Save to hard drive” is selected, you can then specify the desired folder to save the data. Moreover, it does not have to be located on the hard drive, but can be stored, for example, on a removable USB drive.

Selecting “Burn to CD/DVD” opens a dialog box for burning optical media.

The ability to save found files using an ISO image or transfer them via an FTP server also left no questions. There are all the necessary settings for this functionality to work correctly.

Testing

To test the capabilities of the Hetman Partition Recovery program, a special test set was prepared. It included three folders, each of which had different file types: PDF (10), DOC (10), RTF (10), ZIP (4), XLS (10), JPG (10), PNG (10) , MP3 (10) and MP4 (1). There are a total of 75 files in each folder, giving a total of 225 files. The test system consists of the following components:

CPU

Intel Pentium G3220 (2 x 3.0 GHz)

Motherboard

BIOSTAR Hi-FI Z87X 3D (Intel Z87, ATX)

RAM

4 GB DDR3-1333 MHz

Drives

WDC WD5000AAD (500 GB, HDD), ADATA SP900 (64 GB SSD)

Flash drive for testing

GOODRAM (USB 2.0, 8 GB)

operating system

The flash drive was pre-formatted with complete data clearing so that previous files could not affect the test results. The testing itself was carried out in two modes: “Recovery of deleted files” (which were deleted bypassing the recycle bin) and “Data recovery after disk formatting” (standard quick disk formatting using Windows OS). In both cases, a full scan was used, which took up to 10 minutes. The process of restoring found files took approximately the same amount of time.

The results of the analysis and recovery are summarized in the following table:

Original

Recovering Deleted Files

Recovering data after formatting a disk

Data recovery percentage

As you can see, Hetman Partition Recovery coped with the recovery of all deleted files without any problems (100% result) and was able to recover files that were lost after formatting the disk almost perfectly (with 90% result). However, we note that the indicated indicators are not maximum or permanent for the indicated file types. Thus, in another test set, the recovery percentage of, for example, DOC files may be even higher.

It’s nice to highlight that Hetman Partition Recovery was able to not only recover deleted files, but also preserve the directory structure. That is, all files were placed in their own directories. Having a deeper and larger folder tree will save you the time of re-cataloging the recovered items.

When restoring files after formatting, most of them were sorted by the program itself by file type (JPEG, PNG, PDF and others) and were located in the “$Deep Analysis” folder. The additional part was located in the “$Deleted and Found” shared folder. It had several folders with arbitrary names in which the necessary files were stored.

conclusions

So we have come to the end of our acquaintance with interesting and useful software that can very effectively and quickly save you from headaches and save your nerve cells in case of accidental deletion of important data.

First of all, we will highlight a very friendly, convenient and spacious graphical interface with high-quality Russian and Ukrainian localizations and support for hot keys. It provides quick access to the built-in functionality, while allowing you to configure its appearance to suit the user’s personal preferences.

In addition to the basic functionality of searching and recovering deleted files, Hetman Partition Recovery offers the use of a HEX editor, the function of creating a virtual disk or a real disk image, as well as the ability to search for deleted partitions on drives. You can save the found files not only to an external drive or connected media, you can also burn them to a CD/DVD, create an image file from them, or transfer them via FTP.

The program is universal, that is, it can work with several types of file systems (FAT / NTFS) and recover various types of files (office documents, multimedia data, archives, etc.). It supports a variety of media, including memory cards, flash drives, RAID arrays, and internal storage of various devices (for example, an MP3 player or smartphone). And thanks to the use of various algorithms (analysis of the file table and its copy, signature search and reconstruction of the file table), high efficiency is achieved (in our case, 100% of deleted files and 90% of files lost as a result of formatting were correctly recovered).

The only drawback for some users may be the paid status of Hetman Partition Recovery. But here everyone decides for himself what is more valuable to him: the lost files or the required amount. Let us only note that the developers offer less functional versions of the program at a more affordable cost. A complete list of them and a list of their capabilities can be found at this link. In addition, Hetman Software does not offer to buy a pig in a poke: you can download the program you like for free, in which almost all the functionality is available, with the exception of the ability to restore files. That is, you can scan the desired disk to search for deleted or lost files and evaluate the effectiveness of the work. If the result suits you, then you can purchase a license and restore all found data.

We express our gratitude to Hetman Software for providing a copy of the program.

  1. Accidental deletion of necessary files. For example, you deleted files from the trash, and the next day you realized that you really needed them.
  2. Recovering a hard drive after formatting. Even if the file tables are lost, the program will still restore the files using special search algorithms.
  3. You deleted files using the key combination "Shift" + "Del"
  4. You gave a friend a flash drive with photos, but forgot to save them on your computer. A friend, having copied the files, formatted the flash drive and erased all the data.
  5. Your computer is plugged into a power outlet without an uninterruptible power supply. A short circuit occurred, causing the computer to shut down. In this case, the system will have to be reinstalled, and you will be able to transfer important documents to a flash drive using the program.

There can be many similar cases. And the Hetman Partition Recovery program will help you with each of them.

What data can be recovered

  • Remote logical partition;
  • Formatted disk;
  • Accidentally deleted files;
  • Physically damaged storage medium;
  • System disk after a system failure;
  • Lost files on memory cards, hard drives and other media.

This program can also recover many different file formats: photographs, text files, rtf, doc, docx files, archives, spreadsheet files (Excel, OpenOffice Calc and others), video and audio files of many formats.

Data recovery process

To recover deleted data from storage media, download the free version of the program from the link (presented at the end of the review). Connect the flash drive or disk to your computer, then install the application and run it.

In the program window that opens, you will need the “Wizard” section, which allows you to scan the selected media for the possibility of recovering lost data.

For example, I previously recorded photos on a flash drive and deliberately deleted them.

I launched the “File Recovery Wizard” and, following the instructions, scanned the media. The whole process took about 3 minutes. However, you need to understand that the scanning speed depends on many factors: the size of the drive, the number of lost files, the size of the lost files, as well as the overall speed of the drive and your computer.

I managed to recover 16 files out of 18. Moreover, exactly 16 files were photographs, and the remaining two files were a system library and a folder with temporary files.

After installing the software, in the main program window, select the drive from which you want to recover files. If the program needs to scan large amounts of information, it may take some time.

In the window that appears, select the required analysis type. In most cases, a quick scan will be enough - the bulk of the lost information will be restored almost instantly. In case of extensive damage to the file system, it is advisable to perform a complete analysis of the system.

After scanning the specified disks, all files found in them will be displayed in a window with the standard Explorer interface. By selecting the required folder, you can view its contents. Deleted files and folders will be marked with a special red cross.

To set specific search parameters for deleted files or to find and recover only some of the lost documents, you can use the search form through the Edit-Search menu.

If you have deleted any data from a disk but are unable to restore it immediately, you can create and save a virtual image of the current disk.

This will allow you to work with the partition that contained important information as usual, without fear that the information from it cannot be recovered due to files newly saved in the partition. Use the “Restore Disk” function and in the window that opens, specify the parameters for creating a disk image. Later, using the “Add disk” button, you can open the saved disk image and, adding it to the general list, work with it as with an existing one.

To save the necessary data, use the “Restore” button (or the corresponding menu item). In the “Save Files” wizard window, select one of the methods for saving recovered files. It is better if the data is not saved on the same disk from which the recovery takes place.
