The emoticon document is very small, because it is done using the pixelart technique, that is, we will use very small pixels. So, create a new document with a size of 50x50 pixels, this is quite enough. Zoom in on the sheet using a magnifying glass to make it easier to work with.

Create a new layer. Using the Elliptical Marquee Tool, draw a circle. To keep the circle even, hold down the Shift key.

Fill the circle with dark brown. You can use, for example, color #411d14.

Create a new layer. On it, create a circular selection inside the brown circle, but slightly smaller in size. Select the Gradient Tool and make a gradient from white to whatever color you choose. The color depends on what color the smiley should be. Select a circular gradient.

Now use the Gradient Tool to create a gradient, stretching it from the top right corner to the bottom left.

Now apply the following styles to the top layer:

Angle – 135
Distance – 1
Size – 0

Moreover, Apple plans to make text communication through various kinds of instant messengers even more, let’s say, emotional. But there is always room for experimentation, and I propose to carry out one of them in this review using the application SmileyMe, which allows you to turn your own face into an emoji.

A little history

He spent as much as 10 minutes of his time on creating the first emoticon, received $45 for the work and, in fact, this is all the profit he earned from the symbol, which was distributed not even in millions of copies, but in billions. A cheerful yellow face was born in 1963 when representatives State Mutual Life Assurance Cos. of America They wanted to raise the morale and mood of their employees who were depressed due to instability and turned to Bell with a request to come up with an interesting advertising feature.

Meet Harvey Bell, creator of the smiley face

The first emoticon was released in the form of a badge and was such a huge success among the employees of State Mutual Life Assurance Cos. of America that the company ordered 10 thousand of these trinkets for clients, partners and other employees.

The emoticon gained worldwide fame in 70s last century, when a couple of brothers from Spain came up with the slogan “ Have a Happy Day" ("Have a Happy Day"), with which he appeared on everything that could be sold, from T-shirts to postcards, logos, etc.

The classic computer smiley was born only in 1982 year through the efforts of an American scientist Scott Fahlman from Carnegie Mellon University. He suggested using emoticons consisting of a dash and a colon on the university information board.

Today, emoticons are almost everywhere and it is difficult to imagine text communication without them. They enhance simple printed symbols with an emotional component and, reading messages from friends and acquaintances, you literally see the interlocutor in front of you, his emotions, and feel the mood. Although at the moment, emoticons have acquired many more functions, and in addition to expressing emotions, they also carry a lot of semantic load. Moreover, it became possible to use your own face as an emoticon, which I will demonstrate below.

Turn yourself into a smiley

Each set of emoticons can be generate unlimited number of times using different faces. For example, it’s fun to troll your friends this way by generating emoticons from their photos available to you. Although, why troll? This fun turns out to be cool entertainment, like “ Guess whose face is on the smiley?».

Now let's talk about money. The app is free, but there are in-app purchases. In particular, one set of cowboy emoticons is given for free (which can be used an unlimited number of times with different photos). You will receive another free emoticon by logging into your SmileyMe profile through any of the supported social networks. I got the Blonde set. The rest of the emoticons will have to be purchased at 33 rubles for each set. That’s exactly what I did, purchasing a set with a jock surfer and a comic April 1st (in the screenshot below he is on the right):

Of course, for the most part, SmileyMe is an entertaining joke program that does not carry much meaning, but it is made with high quality. Yes, the interface is simple and does not strive to fit into the ideology of iOS 7, but any child can understand it. Most of the emoticons will have to be purchased, but they are made well and the faces from the photographs fit in just fine. Plus, a quiz organized at home like “Guess who’s in the smiley face” turned out to be very fun and lifted the mood of my whole family, which I wish for you too.
