Facebook, iPhone messages, Android platforms - they all have a keyboard with a built-in set of animated images. Dare we say that GIF animation is the new (emoji).

If you're having trouble finding the perfect GIF or have a brilliant idea for a new GIF animation, then check out this article to learn how to create a GIF animation quickly and easily. In this case, you absolutely do not need any knowledge of Photoshop.

The GIF you see below took just 75 seconds to create:

Create an Animated GIF

1. Sign up for Canva

If you've never used Canva before, now is the time to change that. Canva is a fantastic free online tool with an extensive library of stock images, fonts and graphics. Thanks to him, anyone can pass for a graphic design genius.

2. Select images

You can use your own images, or choose ready-made solutions, of which Canva has a huge number. Check out their library and you might find something that's perfect for you.

You can also find free graphics on resources such as Vecteezy.com, HubSpot (if you are their client) and Creative Market.

The following image from the Canva library was taken as a basis:

3. Create layers

Animated GIFs appear "animated" by combining multiple static images/layers into loops. You need to create each of these layers.

To create a GIF like the example with text as the animated part, you need:

  • Remove all inscriptions from the original image and leave only the background, borders, etc.
  • Add the first line of text: “Just imagine!” (Guess what!)
  • Download the resulting image.

After that:

  • Don't touch anything else. It is important! If you move elements or text between layers, you won't get smooth animation.
  • Add a second line of text: “I made this GIF.”
  • Download the resulting image (you now have two).

Repeat these steps again with the last line of text “In 75 seconds” and download the resulting image again.

As a result, you have three layers for your future GIF image. You can add as many layers as you like, but it's important to keep the following in mind:

  • You are telling a story.
  • Ensure elements match between layers.
  • Whenever possible, use pre-made graphics.
  • Canva allows you to upload your own images.

4. Create an Animated GIF

To create an animated GIF image, we recommend that you use the GIPHY service.

GIPHY is one of the largest animated GIF libraries, even used by Apple.

With this tool, you can create a video or animated GIF image and save it on your computer in any of the provided formats.

Here's how to use it:

1. Go to the GIPHY website and click the “Create” button.

2. To create an animated GIF, go to the Slideshow tab:

3. Load your layers.

4. Organize the layers in the order you want them to appear:

7. Congratulations! You've just created an animated GIF in seconds.

In GIPHY, you can create GIF animations not only from images, but also from video files. Here's how to do it:

1. Upload a video file

2. Select the desired video segment

3. Save the resulting file

To do this, go to the GIF Editor tab and paste the link to your GIF file into the input field.

GIF animation is a fun and powerful way of self-expression that can be used successfully in marketing. And as you can see, creating it is really very simple!

Evgenia Kryukova

Whoever came up with GIFs should go to heaven without a queue. Selected animated pictures based on the theme will enliven any content. And the coolest thing is that you can easily make them yourself, from any images or videos.

Here are 10 online services for creating GIF images. In fact, there are many more, but I selected the most convenient ones. With an intuitive interface, without a bunch of pop-ups. Save this selection for yourself so as not to lose it.

How to make a GIF from a YouTube video

YouTube to GIF

A very simple and elegant way. You don’t even need to access the service from search or tabs. Just add "gif" to the video URL, here:

You will be transferred to the foreign YouTube to GIF service. The desired video immediately opens in the interface.

Select the desired segment. If desired, add effects from the panel on the left. I added text (Caption). The menu is in English, but everything is quickly mastered at random.

Click Create Gif. A settings window will appear where you can change the name, add tags, sound, watermark and make the GIF private (this means that other users of the service will not see it).

The service will offer to buy a premium version for full access to the functionality. You can politely refuse or appreciate the efforts of the developers and spend $10. I chose the first :-)

Ready! Download the gif and use it.

Only registered users can download the results of their work. If you are too lazy to register for the service, you can open the link in the “Direct Link” field in a new tab and download the GIF directly from the browser.

Instead of “gif” in the video address, you can add “conv”. You will be transferred to the Conv. service, and then, when you click on “Convert Gif” – to YouTube to GIF. The same thing, but in profile.

Disadvantages of the service:

  • A service watermark automatically appears on all GIFs (you can remove it in the premium version). Otherwise, everything is perfect for a free online service.

Imgur: Video to Gif

A very laconic service where you can quickly make a GIF from YouTube:

  1. Paste the video address into the line and wait a bit for it to upload to the service.
  2. Select the desired segment.

  1. Click Create Gif.
  2. Point the cursor over the created GIF and select the “Download image” option in the drop-down menu (they would have hidden this button even further, honestly).

Disadvantages of the service:

  • Limited set of functions (text and tags only).
  • An advertisement pops up on the download page.

Giphy GIF Maker

A very simple and convenient service for creating GIFs from videos taken from YouTube. To use it, copy the link to the video, paste it into the search bar on the main page of the site, and the service will automatically start downloading the video:

Once the video has loaded, select the section of video you need. Giphy will immediately show you what your future GIF will look like:

Scroll below to add captions to your GIF, as well as tags if you want your audience to find your GIF directly in the Giphy catalog:

If you don't need it, just click the Create GIF button. In a new window you will be given the HTML code to insert the gif file, and in the Advanced tab you will be given a direct link to download it. GIF created using this service:

Disadvantages of the service:

  • You can only add one signature
  • Can't select image size

How to make a GIF from an uploaded video

Convertio

Convenient file converter in different formats. Also available as an extension in Google Chrome.

It's easy to work with:

  • Upload the video and click "Convert". You can convert multiple files at the same time.

  • Click "Download".

Disadvantages of the service:

  • You cannot edit GIFs or add new elements to them. The service only converts one format to another.

Photoshop

If you do not want logos of third-party services to be present on the video, you can use Photoshop. Even if you have no experience with this program, you will succeed - just follow the instructions below.

  • Find a suitable video on Youtube and download it to your computer. This can be done using the Savedeo service or any other similar service.
  • Cut the fragment you need from the video. This can be done using any video splitter or standard Windows Movie Maker or Film Studio. Make sure the video is no longer than 2-3 seconds, otherwise the file will be too large and heavy. In the same programs you can add the necessary inscriptions.
  • Open it in Photoshop. Click File – Import – Video frames to layers (or, if Photoshop is in English, File – Import – Video frames to layers).

  • Play with the settings. Click File – Save for Web and try to change the settings so that the image size does not exceed several megabytes. Initially, my three-second video weighed 11.02 megabytes.

After resizing the gif and reducing the color range, the weight dropped to 2.425 megabytes. This weight is already considered normal.

  • Save the gif. And enjoy a beautiful image without any watermarks or service logos.

How to Create a GIF from a Screen Recording

Licecap

The Licecap app allows you to select any part of the screen and make a GIF out of it. The big advantage of this program is that it can record not only in the browser, but also in any other program. Here, for example, is a gif I recorded in Word.

Gifcam

It works on the same principle as Licecap, but has a more modern interface. In principle, this is the only difference.

How to create a GIF from pictures

Brush Ninja

A stylish and convenient service for creating GIFs from your own drawings. Minimalism is in fashion now, so this service will be relevant.

Draw something. 1 drawing = 1 screen.

Add a new screen (New Frame option) and draw something again. And so on. The number of screens seems to be unlimited - I reached 50 pieces. This is more than enough for a gif. In the settings, you can choose the screen color, select the slide speed, and also use images from the Brush Ninja gallery.

To use your pictures, you will have to sponsor the developer. The service was originally created for non-commercial purposes, as a hobby, but full functionality is available only to sponsors of the project. You can become a sponsor by sending a donation through the Patreon service or purchasing a branded T-shirt from Brush Ninja.

GIF format is a raster technology that consists of alternating images or videos. There is also a single image that maintains high resolution and the most compressed size. The format was created in 1987 and has had some modifications. True, we won’t talk about this, but about how to make a GIF.

We will not dive into the history of creation, since the purpose of the article is to show users about creating GIF animation using various methods.

I hope you are aware that you can make a GIF online, as well as using software. I will try to cover as many means as possible to do this. Go!

First, let's look at online services. I present to your attention ToolsOn - a popular resource for creating GIF animation. There are other functions, for example, creating collages, ICO format icons, logo creation and ringtone converter.

To create a GIF online, you need to go to the section. We are asked to upload a couple of images. You can either select files from your computer using the corresponding “Select Files” button or simply drag and drop them.

Next step. We give the name, the interval during which the images will change, and in other fields we enter the height and width of the gif.

In other parameters, you can choose whether the animations repeat, as well as whether to apply effects or not.

After completing the GIF settings, you need to click the button "Create" and wait a little. Download the resulting animation to your computer and use it for your own purposes.

Here you can create a GIF when you click on a button "Create Animation". Select images from your computer or directly from your camera.

A choice of animation change speed in milliseconds will appear on the right.

It is also possible to download applications for Android, iOS and Windows.

If you explore the site further, on the main page you can see GIFs of other people. Of course, when viewing it, it turns out that there are no posting rules at all, you can post whatever you want.

Google is trustworthy and has many products that have many positive reviews and for good reason. The Google Photos service not only allows you to store images in the cloud, which will eventually be accessible from any device, but also create GIF animation.

To make a GIF online in this service, you need to select the required number of images. Then click on the plus sign at the top right, selecting the item there "Animation". It will be created automatically and very quickly.

English-language, but very cool and functional service for creating GIFs from videos. On the main page there is a large field with a button "Browse", which we click on and select the video.

When it loads, functional parameters will appear. For example, “Start Time” means at what point to start the animation.

The slider below means the end of the animation, choose as you wish.

You can also add text to the GIF, there is a field for this "Caption". After you enter text, formatting options appear. You can change the color and font size.

After configuring the settings, click "Create GIF" and wait for the process to complete. If the video was large in size, you will have to wait a long time.

What shortcomings can be observed in this service?

  • Creating only one caption per GIF.
  • You cannot select the animation size.

The next one. Available for Windows and OSX.

What can this program do? It records video from a specific area on the screen and saves it in GIF format. Anyone involved in computer activities and giving some advice can use this method.

Gifcam

Does the same thing as the previous program. Plus software only in a newer interface. In short, the choice is yours. You can download it.

For now these are all the options how to make a gif. There are actually a lot of methods, for now I will focus on the ones indicated. You can also make GIFs in Photoshop, I use it quite often and have already made GIF animation. Most likely I will write a separate article. I will naturally add to the material, and if you have your own suggestions, write about them in the comments.

Hello, friends! In this article we will understand how to make GIF animation different ways. From simple pictures and videos, using online services and using various free programs.

With the development of animation, cartoons appeared that almost everyone watched, are watching and will continue to watch. Further development led to the appearance of films along with animation. A great example of this is Who Framed Roger Rabbit. With the development of technology, computer animation appeared, which brought films and cartoons to a whole new level. In this article we will learn how to create simple GIF animations.

The good thing about this method is that you don’t need to download and/or install additional programs.

There are many services for creating GIF animation. I tried three of them on myself and of these three I liked http://gifovina.ru/

Go to the service website and use the Add Frames button to upload images.

If you added several images at once, they may be in the wrong order. To fix this, hover your mouse over the image you want to move. An icon appears in the upper left corner of the image; by clicking with the mouse, you can place the image in another place in the queue.

A cross also appears in the upper right corner of the image, allowing you to delete the image.

Under each picture there is a field with a number. This is the duration of the frame in seconds. The default is 1 second. The duration can be changed by clicking on this field and using the slider to set the required time or using the keyboard to set the required duration.

You can customize transition effects between frames. To do this, click on the crossed out circle icon between the images and select the desired effect in the menu that opens.

After selecting an effect, the duration of this effect will be available, which can also be adjusted.

In the center you can edit the selected frame. Editing capabilities include adding various shapes to images. You can set a caption inside these shapes. There are two fonts to choose from. The latter can be chosen in any size, made bold and/or italic.

You can set the colors for the background, text, and shape borders.

The following options are available on the right side of the animation editing window.

Size. It is possible to set the size of the animation. From the drop-down list, select the one you need or select Customize... and in the pop-up window set the required size.

The larger the animation size, the greater the weight of the GIF file.

GIF animation created.

From the video

To make a GIF animation from a video, you will need to install some software. I like it iWisoft Free Video Converter. You can download this free program from the official website http://www.iwisoft.com/videoconverter/.

Download, install and run.

In the window that opens, you see the original video on the left, and what you get will be on the right. Using the scale below the timeline, you can limit the duration of your animation. I need a small piece from the video that is selected in the picture.

Using the frame in the original video window, you can select the part of the frame that you want to see in your animation. You can configure a bunch of effects if necessary.

The folder with our animation immediately opens. I got a GIF file of 33 MB in size, despite the fact that the original video weighs< 19 МБ).

From online video

Paste the link to the YouTube video into the field and click Show video.

You can select any 10 seconds in the video to create a GIF animation. This is set by dragging the slider on the scale below the video.

The start and end times of the animation can be precisely specified manually. To do this, click on the link “ enter time manually“And we ask.

If you select Advanced mode creating a GIF, you can additionally set the width of the animation by moving the slider.

When everything is ready, click Continue.

This is how easy it is to create Gif animation online from a YouTube video.

GifCam.exe

There is a simple program that allows you to create GIF animations. You can download it from the link

The main features of the utility are described there in English.

The program does not require installation. Download the archive, unpack it and run it GifCam.exe

A program window opens that will capture what you want to see in your GIF animation.

The task arose to create gifs on a specific topic.
The fact is that banners and teasers work best when animated. Selling a real product is easiest if the buyer visually sees the advertised products. Therefore, it is best to make such banners from reviews of the desired product. Fortunately, there are probably dozens of reviews on Youtube for the product you need.

The simplest and most convenient way to make your own GIFs for advertising purposes is to generate them from videos.

By the way, these may not necessarily be promotional materials. Animated GIF images also work very well in the design of regular articles. After all, people get stuck in good and interesting gifs. This means they stay on the page longer and study it. What directly affects, and therefore the

By the way, this is a great way to decorate an article with unique images. There are not so many simple ways to get them on the Internet. Here are a few of them: . And using gifs is an excellent and interesting practice that has a positive effect on the reader’s perception of the content.

How to easily make a GIF image for advertising, banners and teasers?

We just go to YouTube, look for a suitable video, watch it, select a few seconds of video that shows the footage we need.

Now you need a service. There are many such services, but some of them are very inconvenient, some are paid. I tried dozens of different services, and found the most convenient one, which allows you to select the desired fragment with an accuracy of tenths of a second. And thus create clear animation, without unnecessary frames. Many services allow you to select a fragment only using sliders, which make it quite difficult to adjust the beginning and duration of a fragment with such precision

Services from Google's top showed not the best tools for this. On the first one I couldn’t load the video at all, and on the second I couldn’t accurately select the desired fragment with the slider.

Service for creating GIF from video

We indicate the required fragment. It is very convenient that you can preview and select the desired frames with an accuracy of tenths of a second. After previewing the animated image, you can change the borders. And do this for as many iterations as you like.

The service is simple and convenient, it works quickly.

But that is not all. After all, the entire fragment from the video is not always suitable for us. Often you need to further process it - add some effects, captions or trim the GIF. Yes, the same black borders, or cut off the watermark of the service itself. This service cannot do this. Fortunately, there are many others. And again you have to choose among them. Therefore, we go to another service that allows us to do this conveniently.

How to crop a GIF or add text to it?

For this, the most convenient service turned out to be ezgif.com and its GIF cropping function - crop

Here, simply select the desired part of the animated image with the mouse and click Crop IT. And again, we have a preview available. If you are not satisfied with the option, you can change the boundaries. As a result, you can cut out an animated banner in any suitable format.

Apply caption to GIF animation

Create Gif from Video Using Google Chrome Browser Extension

A small tutorial about how you can create GIF animation online, without installing programs. You only have to install one small extension for our beloved Google Chrome. And we will take the video for creating GIFs from the video hosting site YouTube.com. Warning: All those who started spitting at the sight of the name of the Chrome browser, please move away from the screen - this article is not for you.

What is all this for? You can just have fun, you can insert these same gifs into your blog, or you can fill your social network page with them. Just for fun, I recently created a GIF animation from a video about cat antics and posted it in a thematic group on Google+. The result is that the picture received about 400 pluses and more than 80 shares in less than two days.

People love this kind of content, why not take advantage of it? If you are a blogger and write articles in which you can’t get away with stories alone, but need to show something, then you can shoot a video or make a screencast, post it on YouTube and make gifs from parts of the video. This whole thing can be built in using code, so you don’t have to worry about space on your hosting. But it’s better to talk about everything in order.

As always, I like to stretch the rubber a little. Let me get started already. I’ll say right away that I tested this extension only with YouTube videos, although, according to the creators of this useful add-on for the browser, everything should also work with Vimeo. But you can check it yourself if you want.

Then let's start creating a GIF animation. It's really very easy to do. But first, you'll need to agree to some things. Don't be alarmed, you just need to go to http://www.youtube.com/html5
and agree to participate in testing the HTML5 player. If you are not satisfied with something, then in the future you can always come back and refuse.

After this simple manipulation, all you have to do is download the extension for the Chrome browser (it’s called MakeGIF Video Capture) and find a suitable video. You can choose absolutely any video on YouTube - it doesn’t matter whether it’s yours or not. Have you chosen? Then click on play and then click on the extension button in the minbox. Unfortunately, this extension cannot boast of rich settings and effects. The most you can do is adjust the quality of the animation, the maximum number of frames (up to 1000) and the size of the picture. You can also insert some simple text, and also make the animation play backwards (often this is much funnier and more interesting).

So, select the desired moment in the video and click on start. During the process, you can press pause and omit unnecessary things. When the moment you decided to capture has come to an end, press stop. And it doesn’t matter if you come across extra frames. You can simply cut them out.
If the animation is ready, you can download it to your computer or send it to the online service MakeGif.com. The second option is much more attractive because it opens up additional opportunities for you. Which? I'll tell you now.

Thus, with the help of the MakeGIF Video Capture extension and the MakeGif.com website, you get two useful tools for creating GIF animation online, without installing programs on your PC. As far as I know, there are quite a lot of similar services on the Internet. Brag if you suddenly know something better.
