Mobile phone xiaomi mi 4c. Xiaomi Mi4C smartphone - magic and excellence for minimal money. Who is a smartphone suitable for?

Canalys analysts predict a great future for Xiaomi, since by mid-2015 this manufacturer topped the list of leading smartphone sellers in the Chinese market. Now competitors have a new reason to worry - a gadget Xiaomi Mi 4c, equipped with a powerful 6-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, with an Adreno 418 video accelerator. It is believed that Xiaomi Mi 4c will be able to thoroughly tease the owners of LG G4, which does not hide its flagship claims, and even reduce the popularity of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 tablet, which is why the first batch will not exceed 100 thousand units.

Appearance

Since the letter “C” is in the name, the smartphone will mostly be sold in the domestic market, although an export version of the device is also planned. The design and dimensions (138.1 x 69.6 x 7.8 mm) of the model completely duplicate those of the Xiaomi Mi 4i, intended mainly for the Indian market. The body is made of plastic in white, blue, pink, black and yellow. Weight – 132 g.

Display and camera

The display is 5 inches with a resolution of 1080p FullHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) with an IPS matrix. The eyes of the device are the 13 MP main camera with autofocus on a module from Samsung S5K3M2 or Sony IMX258. In both cases, the maximum aperture is F/2.0, and the optical system consists of 5 lenses. LED lighting is also a good help. The 5 MP front camera will satisfy the needs of more selfie lovers.

Equipment and functionality

The highlight of the model is Edge Tap technology, which allows you to use the side surface to control your smartphone. A double tap can return the device to the menu or browser, and a single tap (in camera mode) allows you to capture a frame. The device is controlled by a completely recent version of the Android 5.1 OS, in the MIUI 7 shell. A noticeable detail Xiaomi mi 4c is the presence of a USB Type-C interface, which, due to the planned sales volumes, will most likely attract considerable attention to the new connector in other countries.

Equipment and memory

An interesting fact is that the phone comes with a charger and a standard MicroUSB connector, connected via an adapter. The built-in memory, although decent, is 16 GB with 2 GB of RAM, the absence of microSD is still somewhat surprising. Some compensation is the ability to use USB OTG, with expansion up to 32 GB. The model supports 4G/LTE and is equipped with slots for a pair of SIM cards. Battery life 3000/3080 mAh.

The starting point of the price for the gadget is fixed at around $200.

The bottom line is this: whoever, despite such obvious compactness, appreciates style supported by powerful filling will find in Xiaomi Mi 4c what you were looking for.

The “Chinese phenomenon” is when very young Chinese companies suddenly find themselves among the leaders of the local market, and then begin successful expansion into the international market. What do they take? As a rule, low price and excellent quality. If these two rules are not followed, you can forget about popularity. Why do the Chinese succeed and others not? Is this pure dumping or are other manufacturers chasing huge margins?

Of course, there are still issues of royalties for the use of various technologies, R&D, legal fees - all this affects the final cost of the product. Some Chinese companies have apparently found a way around many of the pitfalls, otherwise it is difficult to explain their success.

In September, Xiaomi presented its next device - Mi 4c with a 5-inch Full HD screen. Taking into account the price and characteristics, the model turns out to be twice as attractive, and here's why.

Appearance and practicality

Xiaomi Mi 4c is a rather nondescript smartphone. This impression is probably due to the color of the case: we had at our disposal a graphite blue version, which is actually “gray”, but with a barely noticeable tint. The manufacturer's line also includes more “cheerful” colors.

In the upper left corner of the front panel there is a shiny manufacturer's logo in international format - MI. At the top there is a small speaker slot, to the right of it there is a peephole of the front 5-megapixel camera that supports video recording in 1080p format, and on the sides there is a barely noticeable standard set of sensors and sensors.

The side frames of the screen cannot be called thin. At the bottom there are dedicated navigation buttons with a pleasant light blue backlight. It is activated immediately after the phone wakes from sleep mode.

On the right side there is a “chrome” volume rocker and a power button. They have a small but clear stroke. On the left side there is a slot for two microSIM cards, but there is no room for microSD.

At the top left there is a headphone jack, and just to the side of it there is an infrared port. They are not placed on the same line and therefore look a little sloppy.

At the bottom end is the main microphone. It is located to the right of the USB Type-C connector (at the other end the included cable has the usual full-size connector). The latter has not yet become widespread, so you will have to carry the “cord” with you: asking someone for a charging cable is unlikely to work.

The back panel is covered with plastic with an oleophobic coating, but in reality it still collects fingerprints, which can be clearly visible due to the dark color of the case. At the top left is the main camera with a dual photo flash and a microphone for noise reduction, at the bottom is the speaker grille.

Noticeably rounded corners of the case visually reduce the dimensions of the device (138.1 × 69.6 × 7.8 mm). The Mi 4c weighs 132 g, but the model feels lighter in the hand.

The smartphone looks like a neat and sturdy device, without the pretense of “seeming expensive,” which is a plus for it.

Performance and battery life

The performance of “smart phones” used to be able to be assessed using a set of synthetic tests, but recently benchmarks have become just a way to compare numbers to see who has the most.

The smartphone in question received a 6-core 64-bit Snapdragon 808 chip. Four Cortex-A53 cores operate at a frequency of 1.44 GHz, two Cortex-A57 at a frequency of 1.82 GHz. Adreno 418 is responsible for graphics, the amount of RAM is 3 GB. In benchmarks, the Xiaomi device was inferior to a number of models, and among them were flagships from a much higher price category.

What's in reality? Subjectively, the device turned out to be very productive. Along with the smooth operation of the interface, “heavy” applications, primarily games, also worked without lags or stutters; only the demanding Real Racing showed a drop in fps. However, an unbiased user is unlikely to notice this.

In the process of performing tasks requiring maximum performance, the back cover of the smartphone became warm: the temperature remained within a comfortable range, but was still noticeable.

Battery life is a bit disappointing, but again, the non-removable 3080 mAh battery only doesn't perform well in stress tests. With everyday use, the battery will last a standard day and a half, with active use - a day. In Full HD video playback mode at maximum screen brightness, medium volume and wireless modules turned off, the device worked for 4.5 hours.

By the way, attempts to charge the smartphone via USB from an old laptop were unsuccessful: the computer drained the last couple of percent. Apparently, this is a cost of Qualcomm Quick Charge technology and the used USB Type-C.

We note the presence of an LTE modem, which is important in a new generation network in Belarus.

The device is equipped with a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels and a density of 441 ppi. The screen is bright enough, has high contrast and good viewing angles; you can operate it with gloves. It was not possible to check whether the display would go blind in bright sunlight due to the gray weather. There were no problems with high-intensity artificial lighting, and the manufacturer has provided some software tweaks to adjust the image. Videos look rich and bright. For a mid-class smartphone, the performance is excellent.

Camera

The model received a 13-megapixel main and 5-megapixel front camera. The face module is rarely used - for selfies and rare video calls. As for the main camera, the verdict is as follows: good for its class, without noticeable problems.

The main complaint, oddly enough, is not about the pictures, but about the features of the micromotor that controls autofocus. It rattles a little if, for example, you knock on the smartphone’s body, shake it vigorously, or place it on a table. Nothing critical, but there are concerns about whether the strumming will intensify over time. However, the experience of using “large” cameras shows that the likelihood of this is negligible.

In the past, there have been complaints about blurry photos and slow shutter times. However, the problem was related to the software, and Xiaomi is known for regularly releasing updates and patches and actively responding to community comments. The test sample worked quickly.

Software

Xiaomi initially tried to become a serious competitor for the largest manufacturers of flagship smartphones, but it was strategically important to occupy its niche in all price segments. Therefore, Xiaomi Mi4c has become popular in the middle class, mainly due to its low price and excellent hardware.

Equipment

Xiaomi Mi4c is a fairly typical smartphone in the line, and therefore its equipment is more than standard: the smartphone itself, instructions, warranty card, SIM card ejector, charger with adapter and USB Type-C cable. By the way, not all deliveries include an adapter for our sockets.

Design

If you have already seen Xiaomi Mi4i, then you will not see anything new. In fact, the design of the Mi4c copies the previous model in the line down to the smallest detail - the same dimensions, the same materials, the same shape. The only details that externally distinguish the Mi4c from the Mi4i are that an IR port has appeared on the top end, and a USB Type-C port has appeared on the bottom edge instead of the outdated micro-USB. However, we must describe the design to you in detail, since it became characteristic of Xiaomi smartphones before the large-scale transition to metal bodies.

So, Xiaomi Mi4c has a fairly simple design - there are 2 main parts: a front glass panel and a back plastic cover that extends to the sides. This plastic panel is pleasant to the touch and slightly rough, matte, which means it will not attract fingerprints. The design is not overloaded with any unnecessary elements - there are no outlines or frames. This minimalism is exactly what attracts.

This smartphone with a plastic body is surprisingly light - 130g, and at the same time it has a 5-inch screen. Even today, Xiaomi Mi4c can be considered a perfect example of a compact mobile device. It fits perfectly in the palm and does not weigh down your pocket. Quite a long time after the announcement, it turned out that the polycarbonate case is practical and designed for different conditions.

On the left side there is a slot for two micro-SIM cards. You can remove the slot using a special clip, which is included in the package.

Unfortunately, there is no provision for using a microSD card instead of one of the micro-SIMs. Alas, you will have to calculate in advance before purchasing how much memory you will have.

The hardware volume and power buttons are on the right side. They are slippery and barely stick out from the body. Finding them by touch will be difficult at first. But they are located perfectly. It doesn't matter whether you hold the phone in your left or right hand - you can easily reach it with your finger. The buttons move elastically.

There are only two elements at the top end - a 3.5 mm headphone jack and an infrared port. To control compatible media devices, the Mi Remote application is specially preinstalled, however, you can mainly control equipment manufactured in China.

At the bottom of the case, everything is also ascetic - a USB Type-C port is installed, so you will no longer be confused about which side to connect the charging cable to. It’s a pity that this standard is still not very widespread and you’ll have to look for compatible accessories.

On the front panel above the screen there is a front camera, sensors, an LED element for notifications, and a speaker. Below the screen there are touch control buttons with dim backlighting. Xiaomi allows you to reconfigure the buttons in the settings or assign additional actions for a long press.

The rear panel has a main camera with dual LED flash. In a rare case, an additional microphone is installed to the right of the camera module and serves for noise reduction. Additionally, in the settings there is an option that regulates support for the operation of one or two microphones at the same time. There is a perforation at the bottom that hides the main speaker.

Display

By tradition, Xiaomi installs fairly good quality IPS screens even in inexpensive smartphones. Mi4c has a 5-inch display with Full HD resolution and is protected by tempered Gorilla Glass 3. The frame on the sides is approximately 4 mm thick. Multi-touch supports up to 10 touches simultaneously. The screen wakes up with a double tap.

The image on the screen is obtained with high clarity - yet the dot density reaches 441 ppi. Regardless of the angle of inclination, the display does not distort the picture and the colors do not change. In addition, color rendition is also at the highest level. In the settings menu, you can select the color temperature according to your preferences. You can also adjust the contrast or leave the “automatic” option.

Outdoors in sunlight, the Xiaomi Mi4c screen does not disappoint. In this price range, it is rare for a smartphone screen to remain readable. There's enough brightness to match.

Performance

At the beginning of our review, we already noted that Xiaomi Mi4c runs on a six-core Snapdragon 808 processor. This 64-bit SoC is produced using a 20 nm process technology, it has 2 clusters - 2 Cortex-A57 cores and 4 Cortex-A53 cores. Graphics performance is provided by the Adreno 418 accelerator with support for OpenGL ES 3.1.

Depending on the version of Mi4c, you can get 2 or 3 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Internal memory is also your choice - 16 or 32 GB. Remember, you will have to calculate in advance how much will be enough for you, since there is no support for microSD cards. The maximum that can be done is to connect a flash drive using a USB OTG adapter.

During the test, we received the following file transfer speeds (remember, this is a USB Type-C port):

  • via USB 2.0 – ~22MB/s;
  • via USB 3.0 – ~28MB/s.

The benchmarks show the following results:

  • AnTuTu 64 bit – 51827 points (55214 after software update);
  • AnTuTu – 49106 points;
  • GeekBench 3 – 1269/3308 points (1271/3569 after software update);
  • Ice Storm Unlimited (3D Mark) – 19591 points.

To be honest, Xiaomi Mi4c surprised us with its performance, as we expected more modest results. The same Nexus 5X on the Snapdragon 808 processor turned out to be weaker. We can safely say that the performance of the Mi4c is enough for all everyday tasks and you can even play graphically demanding games on it. When under load, the smartphone heats up to a maximum of 38 degrees, and during games – up to 45 degrees.

operating system

All Xiaomi smartphones come with its own MIUI OS. Mi4c at launch runs on MIUI 7, which is based on Android 5.1.1.

The interface looks simple, neat, and the settings are arranged logically. If you are familiar with MIUI, then you will not find anything new. There is even an opportunity to reduce the working part of the screen if the 5-inch screen is too big for you. Depending on the firmware version, there may be a different set of pre-installed applications, but there are not many of them. MIUI still pleases with the possibility of customization, system speed, and optimization of energy consumption. It is difficult to criticize this OS for anything, since it is an order of magnitude better than stock Android.

Camera

The Mi4c has a 13-megapixel IMX258 camera from Sony, or a Samsung S5K3M2, but each with an f/2.0 aperture. Photos are clear, highly detailed, with bright and natural colors.

The Mi4c camera can shoot video with Full HD resolution, there is no 4k support. Slow-mo video can be recorded at 120 frames per second.

Example video from the camera of a Xiaomi Mi 4c smartphone

Autofocus is fast, the shutter lag is only about 0.1 sec. The dual LED flash is bright and easy to use in the dark. We won’t talk much about the camera application – there are a lot of settings, filters, and shooting scenarios.

Battery

Xiaomi has installed a 3000 mAh battery in the Mi4c, which takes about 1 hour 50 minutes to fully charge, but this is taking into account Quick Charge 2.0. The hardware and software are well optimized, so the smartphone delivers excellent battery life.

With an average load of 4-5 hours, the smartphone will require connecting the charger after 16 hours, that is, Mi4c will work all day. If you don’t use the phone often, it will last up to two days without recharging. After 8 hours in standby mode, the battery loses 20-30% of its charge, depending on the functions running.

Video – Review of Xiaomi Mi-4c

Results

pros

  • fast processor;
  • high-quality display;
  • fast and stable MIUI OS;
  • good camera;
  • long battery life.

minuses

  • no support for microSD cards;
  • choice between 16 and 32 GB of memory;
  • non-removable battery.

Based on the results of the review, we see that Xiaomi has tried to satisfy the needs of the mass buyer. Mi4c turned out to be a compact, convenient smartphone with powerful hardware, its performance approaching the top segment of that time (September 2015). This smartphone has a small screen with Full HD resolution - the colors are bright, rich, pleasant, with high contrast. It is ideal for games, and is in no way inferior to smartphones that cost twice or even three times more. But there are a couple of complaints - despite the plastic case, there is a non-removable battery, and besides, there is no way to increase the memory.

    A high-quality and powerful phone with a good battery. All functions declared by the manufacturer work and work well. An excellent choice for those who do not want to buy huge backdrops with 5.5-6 inch displays

    The phone met all expectations, small, thin, fits very comfortably in the hand. Very nimble, everything flies. The battery is good and can be charged on the fly. The camera has good focusing and takes decent photos, for that kind of money there are definitely no analogues, I used an iPhone 6, iOS nervously smokes on the sidelines. A small computer in your pocket. I bought it on Ali for 18200. As for the firmware, those who don’t understand and swear, and it’s a little damp, something can’t be installed, something crashes, but these little things will be finished over time. So everyone is working with a bang. Happy as an ELEPHANT :)))

    Price/quality ratio - The screen is juicy and beautiful, clearly not budget - Performance, although I don’t play heavy toys, its multitasking is definitely on point (when opening several toys or tabs in the browser - after closing it just opens them again instead of reboots how this happens for those who don’t have enough RAM) - Type-C Yes, although this is actually still a curiosity, when purchasing it I immediately ordered 2 more cables from China to catch up. charging from the original unit by 50% in 30 minutes - that's just awesome!! and at night you really don’t need to think which side to plug in))) - Touch buttons on the case that don’t eat up the workspace on the screen like many do - MIUI is a very cool firmware, with a bunch of settings and its own personalization features, one clock widget with its own weather what

    briefly the advantages: - the case material is very pleasant to the touch, you just want to touch it and touch it :) - the case is monolithic, does not creak or play - for 5 inches I consider it very compact, even with my small hand I can write SMS with one hand - buttons the controls are NON-screen (hello Sony) and the back button is located on the right (conveniently under the thumb, you use it more often than the menu) - the design immediately fell in love with me (of course this is IMHO) - top-end filling (53337 according to Antu) and the processor heats up poorly (glad that The 808 is worth it, not the hot 810) - 2 SIM and support for our(!) 4G frequencies - a capacious battery, even with active use (calls, Internet, WhatsApp, video) is enough for a day, and not from morning to evenings - the camera shoots decently, it seems to me that it doesn’t reach the top ones, but it’s in my eyes!) - awesome screen

    The advantages are already clear to everyone, the hardware, good screen, IR port (universal remote control), good sound both in headphones and speakers, good build, battery lasts for a day or so (if you don’t play games all day) Overall excellent balanced device, bought in Russia, no problems with the language!

    Nothing except the miui shell from Miuipro.ru! which I installed myself. Fast.

    2 years ago 0

    They have already been listed more than once, but still: impressive filling, like many flagships; reasonable price for such characteristics; normal, just a good camera; fast charging and USB type-c; MIUI is a very interesting shell; etc.

    Size. Power. Screen. Android 5 (or MIUI) Both cameras. Battery. Price! And much more.

    Everything works as it should - 4g, wi-fi, gps, IR port everything works fine. I used to use zopo Zp980, it didn’t get wifi everywhere in the apartment. mi4c does not have this problem, it catches everything everywhere. Same with 4g. -compact. Super compact when you hold it you can’t believe at first that it’s 5 inches and has a 3000mAh battery. -of course Miui. The best firmware for Android, I’ve been using it for a very long time on different smartphones. Features such as automatic call recording, convenient switches, built-in root, etc. will always come in handy. - performance. Well, everything is clear here. 808 Snapdragon will last for a long time - camera. Good, just good.

    Powerful hardware -- good screen -- attractive price for such characteristics -- relatively small size (for me this is critical) -- nice appearance -- MIUI is perhaps the best of all Androids.

    There is no official Russification. The sound is not enough

    2 years ago 0

    1. There are no official supplies to Russia and the price is somewhat inflated and continues to rise; in other countries they sell it cheaper. However, this applies not only to this manufacturer, so it’s more about the country than the phone
    2. The case is quite slippery, so you should immediately think about buying a case or some other protection
    3. Lack of such pleasant bonuses as moisture protection, but for such a price it would be strange to expect something like that

    The speaker crackles a little if you cover it

    2 years ago 0

    The case, after 2 weeks, began to wear out (as it turned out, I’m not the only one) several owners had such a sin))) it’s a shame, but okay
    - MIUI yes, yes, there are pluses and minuses in this firmware, I still haven’t been able to completely cure notifications in sleep mode (sometimes they come, sometimes they don’t)

    There were some downsides, but I want to emphasize right away that they are absolutely insignificant for me. I will list:
    - no memory card. Honestly, I don’t know why it is, I NEVER used it on ALL my previous smart phones :), I have more than 32 GB
    - no fingerprint scanner (in principle, this thing is more useful than not, but I haven’t used it before and don’t see much need. You can always set a regular password)
    - no NFC module (I had SGS3 with this module in 2012, but I didn’t need it then and I don’t need it now)
    - the main disadvantage is that the phone is not updated over the air (via the Internet, without cable) (Xiaomi is not represented in Russia). You have to scour the Internet and install the latest firmware via cable. If you are far from this, then you will go with the pre-installed one. This

    The buttons don't move much when you put them on them, they seem to crackle
    The body is rough and sometimes slips out

    2 years ago 0

    Camera, I beg you... The camera sucks. Full. Focusing of an object in motion is zero. Everything that moved a little, goodbye photo. Forget to take a photo of the child.
    There is not even a hint of glass in the throats of the eyes or anything like that. The glass will die from the first scratch.
    Everything inside the phone rattles, it’s like a rattle if you shake it.
    And the microphone is completely out of whack, for many everything is fine, my speaker wheezes. I ordered a new one and had to resolder the cable since the new one came without a cable, but it didn’t help. It's wheezing! hardware problem. Somebody's lucky, I'm not. The phone is in the trash. 20 thousand the same.

    Now there is a fly in the ointment:
    firmware, the device is not officially supplied to us, so either official Chinese-English ones, or translated and updated by local craftsmen, both are full of bugs and glitches, but in the former there are still fewer of them;
    The amount of built-in memory is still small, it could be 64 gigabytes;
    The autonomy upset me, although I didn’t expect a miracle from a 3000 mAh battery with a 6-core processor, but the device eats up the battery with terrible force, just have time to charge it.

    2 years ago 0

    All the little things:
    USB Type-C.
    Without a cover it is very slippery.
    Partially Russian firmware.
    SIM card curtain and paper clip.

    Of course the price is for Russia. Firstly, it’s difficult to buy (well, now it seems easier). Secondly, they greatly overestimate it everywhere. Officially, Xiaomi sells it for only $235. From the beginning of sales from resellers it cost $299.
    -firmware, or rather its localization. Not so good with this one yet. First, you have to install it yourself (although it’s not difficult and can be done in 5 minutes). And secondly, there are still very few versions. I have always used Miui 5, in miui 7 some convenient things were removed for some reason.
    -lack of micro sd. But this also has its advantages. The entire memory of the phone is available to you without any division into memory for memory applications for photos/music, etc.
    -the camera is good. But other recent flagships have better cameras, not much, but better.
