Keenetic DSL parameters and settings from Rostelecom

Keenetic routers from Zyxel allow you not only to set up an Internet connection via a DSL telephone line channel, but also have the necessary functionality to activate IP television supplied by Rostelecom. The entire line of routers has a similar design with a wavy pattern and the manufacturer's logo on the top of the device. Keenetic Start, lite, 4g III and Giga 2 models are based on similar components, and, accordingly, setting up all options for Rostelecom will not have significant differences. Nevertheless, the undoubted similarity of routers is diluted with additional options, increased power and range.

Keenetic Start and Lite are the junior representatives of the company's line of wireless routers. A feature of the devices is their small size and the presence of only the minimum necessary functionality, which, however, is quite enough for use at home.

Models are equipped with one antenna located on the back of the device. Its capacity is enough for a three-four room apartment. In addition, there are four Ethernet connectors that allow you to connect home computers and laptops with a cable.

The Keenetic Giga 2 router opens the class of advanced network equipment. Such a device is enough not only for home use, but also for installation in an office or Internet cafe.

The rear panel is equipped with three antennas with the ability to adjust their location. This solution allows you to significantly increase the quality and range of the signal in comparison with budget options. The Wi-Fi module itself has also undergone changes, which received support for speeds up to 300 Mbps, while younger models use a simplified version of 150 Mbps. The number of Ethernet ports remained the same, but their speed reached the Gigabit mark. Despite the fact that such a solution will not affect the speed features of the Internet in any way, especially when using DSL, which has the maximum possible bandwidth of up to 24 Mbps, this will make it possible to increase the productivity of data exchange within the network. For example, when using network storage, backups can be performed almost instantly.

The Keenetic 4g III model occupies a separate niche of routers. The main characteristics of the device are similar to the Giga 2 router. The essential difference is the ability to connect 3G/4G modems using the USB connector located on the side of the device. On both sides you can find powerful antennas for distributing wireless Internet. The option will become an indispensable assistant in places where there is no way to make a wired connection to the Internet.

Setting up a connection on Keenetic Giga 2 Rostelecom

You need to start setting up a connection on a Keenetic Lite, Start, 4g III, or Giga 2 router from Rostelecom by logging into the device's web interface. To do this, open one of the browsers (which one does not matter) installed on the computer. In the address field, enter the IP of the network equipment. In our case, this is 192.168.1.1. At this point, the system will ask for the user's login information. If the default parameters are set on the router, then the login value is admin, the password is 1234.

Attention! To improve the security of your wireless connection, it is recommended to change the login and password settings to your own. New values ​​for these fields will prevent network hacking and leakage of user's personal data.

To set up an Internet connection, you need to go to the "Internet" menu.

Having selected the type of network corresponding to your connection in it, the remaining parameters will need to be configured according to the data specified in the contract with Rostelecom. Don't forget to confirm and save your changes.

Wi-Fi connections on Keenetic Giga 2, 4g III, Start or Lite routers from Rostelecom are configured using the corresponding menu. You can go to it using the left frame of the web interface. It is recommended to set the security type settings of the wireless access point as WPA/WPA2 PSK. The key for such a network will have to have at least 8 characters.

Routers of the Keenetic line have wide functionality. Depending on the model, you can choose a router that is best suited for a city apartment, office or country house where there is no wired network.

1. First you need to configure the network card of your computer, as shown in the instructions.

2. Type in the address bar of your Internet browser (Opera, Internet Explorer, etc.) address 192.168.1.1 and press the key « Enter". When you first log in on the latest firmware versions, you will be offered two configuration options. Choose "Web configurator".

3. A window for setting a new password for the web interface of the router will appear.

Network connection

This router is designed to connect to the provider's servers via Ethernet (eight-core twisted pair). If the Internet from Rostelecom comes to you via a thin telephone cable, Zyxel Keenetic will not suit you, as it does not support ADSL technology. Plug the incoming cable into the blue port on the back of the device labeled "WAN".

Using the patch cord supplied with the router, connect your personal computer to one of the yellow LAN ports on the router. Connect the device to the power supply and start it.

Connecting to the web interface

To configure routers, special network interfaces are used, which you can connect to using a browser on your computer. To do this, users will need to find out the address of the router in their home network. As a rule, it is indicated on a sticker on the bottom cover of the case and is presented as four numbers separated by dots.

If there are no stickers with the necessary information on your router, there is another way to find out the address:

• Click on the network icon in the Windows tray.
• Click on the "Control Center..." hyperlink.
• In the "View networks" section, click on the current local connection.

• Go to the Details section.
• Copy the value of the "Gateway" parameter to the clipboard.

Now you can connect to the web management interface of your Zyxel Keenetic:

1. Launch any internet browser.
2. Paste the contents of the clipboard into the address bar and press Enter.
3. The system will ask you for a login and an access code to enter the settings menu. As well as the network address, they are indicated on the sticker. If it is lost, try the combinations "admin" + "admin" and "admin" + "1234".

Internet connection settings

• Click the "Save" button.

Wireless network configuration

After successfully setting up the Internet, users will need to set the access point settings for the Wi-Fi network. If you are not going to use wireless technologies, it is recommended to disable the Wi-Fi module to save the system resources of the router.

• Using the menu on the left side of the window, open the category "Wi-Fi network" ("Wireless").
• Go to the "Connection" section.
• If you want to disable the wireless network, uncheck the corresponding option - "Enable" ("Enable wireless"). Otherwise, enter the desired name of the access point in the text field "SSID" ("Network Name").
• Now go to the "Security" tab.
