Copy partitions from one disk to another. Features and rules of full cloning of hard disk data from HDD to SSD. An easy way to clone a hard drive or SSD with Acronis True Image

A fairly simple question and at the same time quite complex. If a disk partition or a whole disk is small or if there is not so much information on it, then you can use the usual copying of all files from one disk to another. You can use sync. This method is more reliable and will not give a chance for the disappearance of files and folders. Synchronization can be performed by one of the popular and reliable programs, such as the program goodsync or FreeFileSync . And about one and the other you can read in detail by clicking on the links.

But large volumes of hard drives are best copied with specialized utilities. This will reduce the occurrence of errors to zero, and the disk to which you copy the information will be an exact copy of its predecessor. Synchronization utilities or Windows capabilities cannot achieve such accuracy.

Such utilities include Acronis Disk Manager , AOMEI Partition Assistant , and others.

These utilities can not only copy information from one disk to another, but also transfer the operating system. For example, you bought a fast SSD drive and want the operating system to be on it, while the old hard drive will be used for data. In addition, programs of this class will apply the necessary parameters so that the SSD drive is correctly configured and its service life does not decrease.

It is the latter option that we will use. Why exactly ?

It's not all about preference here. Just the previous two did not want to work on my laptop. AOMEI Partition Assistant just hung at the beginning of the work, and Acronis Disk Director offered to perform the operation after the system was rebooted. Accordingly, I agreed and after the reboot the application did not start.

Therefore, I settled on the Paragon Hard Disk Manager 16 version.

To get started, you need to go to the menu section " drivecopy”. Next, click on the disk partition you want to copy. A menu will open from which you need to select " Copy this Volume". The program will "think" a little and open the following window.

In the next step, you need to specify the disk partition to which all information will be copied. The program will warn that all information on the disk will be overwritten. If you are confident in your actions, then check the box next to " I know that the data on the target disk will be overwritten". Otherwise, make sure once again that the disk to which the partition will be copied does not have any important data.

At the next stage, you can specify the letter of the future disk, size, occupied space before and after the partition. If you are not sure, leave everything as it is at this stage, everything will work without intervention. Next, click a few more times on " Next", and then " Finish».

Please note that at this stage nothing will work yet. You have entered an instruction for further execution. To start the operation for execution, you need to click on the button " apply» in the upper left corner of the program window. Such a procedure is performed in order to be able to cancel the operation at the last moment, since programs of this class, if used incorrectly, can lead to disastrous results, such as completely erasing a disk with data loss.

After pressing " apply» The copy process starts. It may take more than one hour, it all depends on the volume of the disk. Therefore, be patient. You can go do other work, do something to occupy yourself. For example, I went fishing, and when I returned the program finished its work :).

To migrate the operating system, use the option " Migrate OS from this Volume” instead of “ Copy this Volume ” and follow the same instructions as above. In this way, you can accurately transfer Windows XP, 7, 8, 8.1, 10.

This is the transfer of all data from the old drive ("donor") to a new one ("recipient"). Everything is copied without exception: the operating system with drivers, installed programs, photo, music and so on. After cloning and replacing the disk, you do not need to remember passwords, all files will be in their usual places.

Why clone a hard drive?

This operation is carried out for the following purposes:

  1. To use a new and faster drive. A typical case is replacing a slow HDD with a modern SSD. This will significantly speed up the responsiveness of Windows, and due to cloning, the upgrade of the computer will be as comfortable as possible for the user. All shortcuts and settings will remain unchanged, but the system will become faster.
  2. Not to reinstall the operating system. For example, after buying a new computer, you want everything to be like on the old one and without reinstallations. This will happen when transferring information from the “donor” to the “recipient”, and the procedure itself will require relatively little action and attention from the user.
  3. To synchronize work for different computers. Remote work is becoming more and more common. Cloning hard drive will allow you to deploy a full-fledged workplace where it is convenient and there can be as many such places as you like.
  4. To backup your data. You can lose information on the drive at any time - nothing lasts forever. Thanks to cloning in a few clicks, you can also be safe in case of force majeure to have a fully working "cast" of all data.

It is important that the "donor" does not have viruses - clone the drive only after a thorough check for malware.

Utilities and programs for cloning

There are many cloning applications. Some, specially designed to perform such an operation, are suitable for inexperienced users who value the simplicity of the process. Other programs have wider functionality. In them, creating a disk clone is just one of the many options available.

Connect your new drive to your computer before using any application. To do this, it is convenient to use an external hard drive pocket.

Renee Becca

A simple utility that everyone will understand. With its help, you can clone a storage medium in a few clicks. The algorithm of actions consists of the following steps:

  • download, install and run the application;
  • select in the left pane "Clone". With Renee Becca, you can also clone only certain local drives or transfer only the operating system to a new drive. The corresponding items are located below in the initial window of the program;
  • indicate "donor" and "recipient". To obtain full copy"donor", check the box "Make target disk bootable ..." at the bottom of the window. On the left, expand the "More" list and check the box next to "Clone of all sectors ...". Then start the operation by clicking on "Clone";

A functional program that costs a lot, but a demo version is also suitable for cloning. To download it, follow the link and enter your e-mail. After launching the application, do the following:

  • select "donor". It is important to specify not just a local drive, but the entire drive. To do this, right-click on the line with this drive and click on "Clone basic disk";
  • specify "recipient". When choosing this disk, remember that the data on it will be overwritten, and its volume cannot be less than the size of the occupied information on the "donor";
  • so that the "recipient" is exactly the same as the "donor", check the box next to the "One to One" line in the next window;
  • in Acronis Disc Director, any manipulations with drives must always be confirmed separately. To do this, at the top of the window, click on "Apply pending operations" - only after that the cloning will begin;

If you do not use the program for commercial purposes, then you do not need to pay for it. You just need to go to the developer's website, click on "Home Use", specify an e-mail and confirm it - you will receive a corresponding letter. After downloading, installing and running Macrium Reflect, follow these steps:

  • on the home screen, click on "Clone this disk";
  • on the next window, check all local drives on the "donor";
  • at the bottom, click on "Select a disk to clone ..." - a selection window will appear, where specify the "donor";
  • at the end of the operation, click on "Finish";

Paragon Drive Backup Personal

A free utility, the capabilities of which are enough for cloning. It is available for download on this page, and after downloading, installing and running, do the following:

  • create your own account in the app. This is done in a few clicks - you only need to specify your e-mail and personal data. After that, on the left, click on "My new backup". On the right, specify "donor" in the "Backup source" field and "recipient" in the "Destination" field;
  • start cloning by clicking on "Back up now";

Simple and demon paid application. To download, go to the developer's website and select the version with Russian localization.

After installation and launch, follow these steps in sequence:

  • indicate "donor". If you need to clone not the entire drive, but only one of the local drives, then check the box "Show partitions" and select the required local drives. Then click on "Next";
  • Specify the "recipient" and click on "Next" again.
  • the settings window will appear. You can not change anything and click on "Next";
  • a window for setting the sizes of the "donor" and "receiver" will appear. It is enough to tick the option "Resize partitions proportionally" and click on "Next";
  • in the last window, confirm the start of the operation by clicking on "Start copying".

A good utility that has a demo version, the capabilities of which are enough for a one-time disk cloning. After downloading, installing and running the application, follow these steps:

  • in the top panel, click on "Clone" - unfortunately, the program does not have a translation into Russian;

Initially, it was not possible to select the text, but when I checked the Simplify page checkbox, everything worked right away.

Disable JavaScript

2. Disable JavaScript special extensions for the browser (NOScript for example) or manually. You will understand the extensions, but I will tell you more about the manual method. And I think it's much better than installing an extra plugin.

Go to control settings Google Chrome, go to Settings and at the bottom of the page click the Show advanced settings link. Here, find the section Personal data and under this inscription, click Content settings.

Here, find the JavaScript section, select Block JavaScript on all sites, and click Done. Refresh the page you need, and copy the text without any interference. After that, return to these settings and return everything to its place so that the rest of the sites work correctly.

If you want to permanently disable JavaScript for a specific site, go to Configure Exceptions. Enter the site address in the left field, and select Block from the drop-down menu on the right.

Now you can copy the necessary information at any time, without any problems. But keep in mind that after that appearance site may change and some features may no longer work.

For a couple of paragraphs

3. Press the F12 button on the desired page, and then select the arrow in the upper left corner or press ctrl + shift + c instead. I show on the example of Google Chrome, but in other browsers everything works about the same.

After that, click on the desired paragraph in the text with an arrow, and then open the highlighted fragment at the bottom of the browser (usually in the form<р>…). The necessary information will be hidden in it - from here you can safely copy and paste it to the right place.

Suitable for those cases when you need to copy a couple of paragraphs, and do not want to spend a lot of time on unnecessary manipulations.

Copy code

4. Press the keyboard shortcut ctrl + U on the correct page. The HTML code of the page will open, where no plugins interfere with copying information. But it’s not worth copying everything, just find the right section of the text. To do this, press ctrl + F to open the search box. In it, enter a few words from the paragraph that you need. Press enter or the "find" button to navigate to the desired section in the code. Copy the information you need using the ctrl + C keys or right-click on the selection and select "Copy".

open normal text editor(notepad) and paste the copied text into it (press ctrl + v). As you can see, in addition to the necessary text, we also copied the HTML code, which we don’t need and interferes with. You can remove it manually, but again it makes no sense - there is an easier way.

Now on the desktop, open a new file using any browser, and there will be the desired text, without extra html codes and with formatting (bold, italics, lists, etc.).

Open in Word

5. Open the site in word is a very unusual way, and it will take a little time for the computer to process the request. But on the other hand, you will receive a complete copy of the site page in a Word document. To do this, in Word, click File - Open - and enter a link to the desired page in the File name field.

Then click Open and wait. The download speed depends on the weight of the site, and the performance of the PC. It is better to save all open documents before this so that in case of a failure you will not lose data.

Text is not copied from the site - what to do?

There are times when an article is displayed not as text, but as a picture. Then the above methods will not help to copy the information. In this case, you need to copy the picture, if possible - right-click on it and select Save picture as ...

When the site owner locks the mouse, take a screenshot of the site. To do this, press PrintScreen on the keyboard and paste in graphics editor using ctrl+v keys. Even regular Paint will do. Trim off any excess so that only the desired text remains.

Now search the Internet for any online service for text recognition, and run a picture through it. In a couple of minutes you will receive a text version of this article.

Choose any of the considered methods of how to copy text from a site that is copy-protected. Personally, I use the JavaScript method for permanent sites, and the print method for new ones. No dreary techniques, and you won't have to think for a long time what to do if the text from the site is not copied.

Reading time: 10 min

In this article, we will look at programs that will help you quickly clone (copy) a hard drive to another hard drive. Such knowledge will be useful to any owner of a computer or laptop.

Upgrading a computer or laptop often involves replacing the hard drive with a more capacious and faster one. At the same time, users are faced with the problem of transferring information from the installed media to a new one, because in order to reinstall the system, drivers and necessary applications, you have to spend a lot of time.

It is much easier in this situation to carry out full or partial cloning of an HDD or SSD using one of the specialized programs. Setting up and working with them do not require special knowledge, and the time spent on the cloning process is an order of magnitude less than on installing the OS and setting up.

Copying a hard drive in Acronis True Image

One of the functions of this useful program- disk cloning, which, by the way, can be configured very finely depending on the tasks of a particular user. To avoid possible errors during the operation, you do not need to use Acronis True Image from under a running OS - it is recommended to launch the application using the boot disk. Therefore, you will need the Acronis BootCD/DVD distribution kit, which will need to be unpacked to DVD or even to a flash drive, for example, using UltraISO, UNetbootin, etc.

After creating bootable media, you can proceed directly to cloning:

  1. Boot from the drive created with Acronis BootCD/DVD.
  2. In the Acronis main window, open the Tools and Utilities section.

  3. On the right in the list of utilities, go to "Disk Cloning" and select the automatic mode for the process. Click next.
  4. Left-click to select the source disk with the copied information, click "Next".

  5. In the next window, select the target drive where you plan to clone the old HDD. The target drive can be either an HDD or a high-speed modern SSD.

If you are copying to a solid state drive, then the usual situation will be when its capacity is less than the connected HDD. In this case, Acronis True Image will display a message about the need to exclude certain files and folders from the cloning process.

Usually, only the system is transferred to the SSD, so only the main disk partition (usually “C”) can be allocated for exact copying, excluding partitions or individual files with unnecessary information from the process. If the disk volumes allow you to clone the old drive completely, you can click "Next", after which the process of sector-by-sector low-level copying of the disk will start.

Note that the application is paid, but it is multifunctional, works very quickly and, as has been shown, has the ability to select data on the hard drive for transfer.

Using the Paragon Hard Disk Manager App

This multifunctional application is only slightly inferior in popularity to the program described above. It is also convenient to use it to clone information on drives:

Like Acronis True Image, this application for reliable sector-by-sector data copying is better to run not from under Windows, but from a boot drive. You can create it in the program itself, using a special rescue media creation wizard:

Note that Paragon Hard Disk Manager is also a paid application, but its functionality is no less than that of Acronis True Image. Both of them work with any disks and file systems, support Windows 8.1 and 10.

Disk cloning using EASEUS Disk Copy

This small application, unlike those discussed earlier, is completely free, but nevertheless allows you to reliably clone sector-by-sector hard drives, their individual partitions and migrate the OS to various drives, including solid-state SSDs. The program is launched from a bootable DVD or flash drive, for which you need to download a free distribution kit for installation on the official website of the utility. After running the executable setup file, the wizard will offer a choice:

  • install EASEUS Disk Copy on a USB flash drive,
  • to the optical drive
  • export the ISO image of the utility to a computer disk.

A simple and quick option is to create a bootable USB flash drive, i.e. the first one from the list.

In the next window, specify the disk to be copied and the drive to which information will be transferred sector-by-sector. A certain drawback of the application is the lack of Russian localization.

After cloning a Windows 10 boot disk, sometimes the system may not boot. In this case:

If you get a File: \Boot\BCD error after booting, repair the Windows bootloader.

Cloning Disks with Macrium Reflect

This is another small utility distributed free of charge. Its functionality includes cloning HDD and SSD, creating their full images, as well as images of individual partitions that can be used in the OS as virtual media. The installer can be obtained from application website, when you start it, you need to specify the installation directory and select the "Free" license.

When you first start Macrium Reflect, it will prompt you to create boot disk, which you should agree with, since when working in a Windows environment, cloning can be accompanied by errors. After starting the program:

  1. In the main window, select the drive to be cloned.
  2. Under the selected drive, click on the link "Clone this disk" and in the next window select the drive to which you want to transfer the information.

Using the Farstone RestoreIT Pro Utility

This paid application is used to create backups of any information on disks, saving the current state of the system, and in case of unforeseen failures, restoring it literally by pressing a single button.

The mechanism of work is that it overwrites the boot sector of the disk, adding itself to it, and also creates an additional logical disk to record all the information being backed up. In fact, Farstone RestoreIT Pro creates system restore points, and it can be used to roll back to the previous state not only the entire disk, but also individual partitions.

You can activate and deactivate the application in the context menu, the latter is opened by clicking on the tray icon. This feature allows you to save system resources when you are sure that its state does not change at the moment. Farstone RestoreIT Pro can create bootable CD/DVDs or even floppy disks, with which you can not only restore a disk if it cannot boot normally, but also an MBR master boot record with a partition table.

How to quickly copy a hard drive to another hard drive (HDD/SSD)

4.3 (85.45%) 11 votes.

Initial conditions: Your system has more than one hard drive. The operating system is already installed on one of them, and on the second you installed Windows 7. There was a need to remove a hard drive from the system on which Windows 7 was not installed. But it turned out that without this disk your system does not want to boot.

This happened because one of the three conditions for a successful boot was no longer met:

  • the partition from which the boot is performed must be active;
  • The boot sector of the partition must be compatible with bootmgr;
  • the active partition must contain the operating system boot files. For Windows 7 this is the file bootmgr and the boot configuration data store ( BCD), located in a hidden and system folder Boot.

Consider the solution to the problem using the configuration example shown in the figure

The screenshot of Disk Management shows that the C: drive, on which Windows 7 is installed, is not active. Drive D: is active. Windows 7 boot files (they are hidden and system ones) on drive C: will also not be found. Task: move the bootloader from drive D: to drive C:, that is, ensure that the above conditions are met.

Using a Windows 7 Installation or Recovery Disc

With these discs, transferring boot files is easy. Physically disconnect the "unnecessary" hard drive, boot from the disk, setting the CD-DVD drive in the BIOS as the first boot device, enter the recovery environment. After the scan and search for installed operating systems, perform Startup Repair. The recovery program will prepare the hard drive as needed and copy the necessary files to it. After the reboot, the ability to download will be restored.

If you do not have an installation disk or a recovery disk, you can use the method described below.

Transferring boot files using the bcdboot.exe utility

It is conditionally possible to divide the upcoming operation into three stages, corresponding to the three necessary conditions for a successful download.

First: go to the "Disk Management" snap-in (Win + R, in the "Run" line, type diskmgmt.msc and click OK) and see what letter is assigned to the first left partition of the disk that you plan to keep. It is this partition that we will make bootable and active: right-click on the selected partition and select the "Make partition active" context menu item. Note that this section must have a "main" attribute.

Second: run command line with administrator rights. All commands, which will be discussed below, will be executed sequentially without exiting the command line.

DISKPART list disk sel disk X list partition sel part 1 active exit

where X is the number of the disk to be left in the list of disks (command list disk).

To do this, you need a utility bootsect.exe, which, in the absence of an installation disk, can be obtained here. Download and unzip it in advance, for example, to the root directory of the C: partition.

C:\bootsect /nt60 All /force

note: experience shows that if there are 2 or more HDDs in the configuration, the key /force necessary.

Bcdboot %Windir% /l ru-Ru /s С:

Key /l- selection of language options for the download manager. If your system is not Russian, use other values of this key, for example, en-Us for English, de-DE for German, etc.

Key /s- Specifies the volume letter assigned to the target system partition to which the boot environment files are copied. This is the section that we have made active. Since the command firmware uses the current system partition by default (before removing the hard drive, it is the D: partition), applying this key with the letter of the intended boot partition is necessarily!

  1. We make the disk active. There are two ways to make the desired section active.
  2. Overwrite the boot sector (make it compatible with bootmgr):
  3. Move the BCD and bootmgr file to the new active partition:

Checking and editing BCD

Execute the command

bcdedit /store C:\boot\bcd

Enlarge picture

Based on the results of the command, check the parameters (underlined in the screenshot):

  • in the "Windows Boot Manager" section device should be equal to the letter of the new active partition, in our case - and osdevice must be equal to the letter of the partition where the Windows directories are currently located. In our case, this is also FROM:.
  • in case of inconsistency, make the necessary changes using the commands:
bcdedit /store C:\boot\bcd /set (bootmgr) device partition=C: bcdedit /store C:\boot\bcd /set (current) device partition=C: bcdedit /store C:\boot\bcd /set ( current) osdevice partition=C:

Usually, the execution of commands is not required, but it does not hurt to check. Instead of an identifier (current), it can be (default), or even alphanumeric. Then in the commands you need to use the one that is used for loading.

Thus, transferring boot files to another drive is not such a difficult task.

Instead of a conclusion, or "Russian-language multi-boot menu"

Due to the fact that the startup repair program running from the recovery environment uses the "default" parameters, the language of the boot manager becomes English. In the presence of a single bootable system, this is not noticeable, but in the presence of a multiboot menu, it is striking. If this does not suit you, run on the command line:

bcdboot %Windir% /l en-Ru

You need to execute it after transferring the download files to a new partition.
