Increase browser cache. Instructions for increasing the cache in the Google Chrome browser. Increasing Standalone Flash Player Cache

Good day, friends! In today's article, I would like to tell you what a browser cache is and what it is for, as well as how to increase its size in Yandex and move the folder with it to another location on your computer.

Browser cache - what is it?

The site already has an article,. It provides a definition for this term. Also, it says in which folder on the computer the folder we are interested in is located.

Information caching is provided in all modern Internet browsers. Thanks to this, the user can play online games, watch movies, and save Internet traffic.

When you visit the site, a copy of the page is stored in the cache on the local disk of the computer. Suppose you left this site by clicking on a hyperlink, and then returned to it again. In this case, its download will be faster, since the browser will take the necessary files from the computer, and will not contact the server.

When watching a movie or video, you probably noticed that if you pause, a gray bar will continue to run in the playback bar. This means that the movie is downloaded to the computer, that is, it is cached. Once fully downloaded, it can even be downloaded from there.

The cache file on the computer has a certain size. And when the free space runs out, old records are deleted and new ones are written.

You can reduce its size if you do not have enough free space on your computer. If you want to download, for example, a movie to a given folder and then save it from it, or you need to save Internet traffic, then it is better to increase this file.

How to increase cache memory in Yandex browser

This cannot be done in the browser itself, since such a function is simply absent. To increase the cache size, find the Yandex browser shortcut on the desktop and right-click on it. Then select "Properties" from the context menu.

If you do not have a shortcut, then go to the "Start" menu, or to the "Program Files" folder on drive C: and find the .exe file in it.

A properties window will open on the Shortcut tab. Here we need the "Object" field. Place the cursor at the end of the line, press the spacebar and type: --disk-cache-size=Size. Ahead are two small hyphens without a space. Replace "Amount" with the desired value in bytes. For example, 1 GB = 1073741824 bytes. Be careful not to delete the contents of the line itself, otherwise you will need to create a new label.

Don't forget to click Apply, then OK.

How to change the storage location of the cache folder

When installing the Yandex browser, the user does not have the opportunity to specify in which directory on the computer to store the cache folder. Accordingly, everything will be stored on the system disk. If you do not have too much space on the system drive, you can move this folder to another disk partition, or even to another hard drive (if there are several installed).

Welcome all. Today we are solving the question of how to increase the cache memory in the browser. This procedure is especially relevant for comfortable browsing with slow Internet, as well as for fans of online games. Therefore, if your video on the Internet slows down or you can’t launch your favorite toy, then this instruction is for you.

Note. This method is for old versions, for new versions of Opera, starting from 15, made on the new Chromium engine - read the instructions below, in the Yandex and Google Chrome section.

Go to settings - Opera - Settings - General settings or press Ctrl + F12:

The browser settings window will open, here we go to the “Advanced” tab - select the “History” item - and in the “Disk Cache” field, select the maximum memory value - 400 MB. I also advise you to check the box next to the “Clean on exit” item so that when Opera closes, it is automatically cleaned and does not clog the system once again.

Then click "OK" and you're done - now or games will become much more comfortable.

Note. If you need to increase by more than 400 MB, then go to the address - “opera:config” (enter in the address bar). The advanced settings editor will open. Find the “Disk Cache” item, open it and at the very end in the “Size” field set the value you need in kilobytes. For example, for 1GB - enter - 1000000 kb. Then click "Save" and just in case, restart your browser.

How to increase the cache in the Yandex browser, Google Chrome and Opera 21

In these browsers, the developers went in a completely different way. And you will not immediately understand how to increase this volume for temporary files. Because all actions need to be done not through the browser settings, in the usual way, but through the shortcut for launching the program, adding some lines, in general, it was done far from ordinary users. But still, the procedure is simple, the main thing is to know what and where to prescribe, and we will deal with this now.

Since the engines of Yandex Chrome and Opera 21 are the same (called Chromium), then, accordingly, all settings are identical, and in the case of our storage of temporary files, the actions will be similar.

To increase the cache in the Yandex browser, right-click on the program launch shortcut and select "Properties":

In the properties, go to the “Shortcut” tab and in the “Object” field after the word browser.exe put a space and add this line (for convenience, copy this line and paste it into the desired field, but look, do not delete the previous contents of the line):

1 -- disk-cache- dir = "с:\YandexCache" -- disk-cache- size= 1073741824

Disk-cache-dir="с:\YandexCache" --disk-cache-size=1073741824

which will mean that we have set the cache size to 1 GB, which will be located in the YandexCache folder on drive C. Naturally, the size (we write in bytes) and the path can be changed at your discretion.

It will look like this:

Then click "Apply" - "OK" and all cache memory for Yandex is increased! By the way, you can read how to clear the cache in Yandex Browser.

The same goes for Google Chrome. Go to the properties of the Chrome shortcut, go to the "Shortcut" tab and in the "Object" field after chrome.exe "put a space and add the line:

Disk-cache-dir="c:\OperaCache" --disk-cache-size=1073741824

Click "Apply" - "OK" and that's it. In Opera 21, they also increased by 1GB, which will be located in the OperaCache folder on drive C.

How to increase cache memory in Mozilla Firefox

Go to the Mozilla settings, to do this, click on the "Firefox" button - select "Settings" - and again "Settings":

In the settings window, go to the “Advanced” tab - then the “Network” tab - then in the “Cached Web Content” field, check the box next to “Disable automatic cache management” - and set the value you need, for example 1000 MB, that is, 1GB:

After that, click "OK", reload the browser, just in case, and that's all - they also increased it in Mozilla Firefox.

How to increase the cache memory in Internet Explorer

Go to settings - "Tools" - "Internet Options":

On the “General” tab, in the “Browsing history” field, click on the “Settings” button:

and in the field “Used disk space” set the value you need:

then click “OK” and restart the browser.

And that, perhaps, is all. We have considered the main browsers, I hope everything is clear with this. If you have any questions - ask in the comments.

Good luck to all! And see you soon!

The article will cover topics related to the Yandex Browser Internet file storage: how to increase the cache, how to clear it, where it is located, what is its size, can it be transferred.

The cache is intended primarily to reduce the number of unnecessary calls from the Internet browser to the opened sites. Each file that is transmitted over the Internet is marked in a special way, this marking usually contains the update date. If the file is not updated for months or years, there is no point in pulling it out every day from the Internet. Therefore, it is stored on the hard drive and the browser uses it bypassing the process of requesting the World Wide Web. The folder with such data is the cache.

Sometimes it becomes necessary to clear this folder forcibly. There are certain considerations as to why such a need may arise.

  • Situation one. The system suddenly runs out of free hard disk space and the OS offers to clean up unnecessary data;
  • Situation two. The user tries to hide traces of visiting one or more resources. The goals here may be different. For example, some sites may prohibit registration from the same ip address more than once. To hide the first registration, the user can try to clear cookies and history at the same time. Perhaps the motive here may be the reluctance to have compromising materials on the computer that were viewed on the network. But the cache stores everything that we watch. Therefore, by iterating through the cache files, you can find information that a companion or family member has viewed.

Erase data in storage

We will show how the Yandex Browser storage is cleaned with an example.

In the list of settings, select the item "Advanced", in it - "Clear history".

A window will open with options designed to clean up information related to using the browser. There is also a drop-down list that sets the time period for cleaning files. The following options are available:

  • Delete in an hour
  • Delete in a day
  • Delete in a week
  • Remove in 4 weeks
  • Delete all time

Check the box next to "files saved in the cache" and click the "clear history" button. If you don't want to accidentally reset other options, be sure to check that the options next to them are disabled.

The console for cleaning can be called with the hot keys Ctrl+Shift+Del.

How to make storage bigger

There is no way to increase the cache using the browser itself, so let's consider an example with setting additional parameters to the browser executable file.

To increase the cache, you need to find the Yandex Browser shortcut on the desktop and right-click on it to open the shortcut settings menu. At the very bottom of the menu there will be an item "Properties". We select it, after which the “Properties: Yandex” panel with tabs will open. Select the "Label" tab. The tab contains several fields for entering information. We need the "Object" field. This field contains the path where the “exe” file of the program is located and which the shortcut calls when you click on it. The executable file has the ability to accept parameters. One such parameter is the cache size. We will add this parameter to the object call, and then when you click on the shortcut, the executive program will be launched with the necessary parameters.

The following line, written at the end of the call to the executable file, will help to increase the cache:

where N is the cache size in bytes.

This completes the procedure for increasing the cache, after launching Yandex Browser will have a new storage size.

Where is the data located

To find the cache you need to go to the following path:

Yandex Browser stores cached files in numbered form, without extension. Therefore, by one name it is impossible to understand what type it is and what its name was originally. The only thing you can bind your search to is the date. Thus, if you want to see some photo, you will have to sort through quite a lot of files manually.

There is another trick. If the file is known to be a photograph, it cannot be smaller than a few kilobytes. In this way, you can sort the data by size and examine only those that fit.

How to copy

To transfer the browser storage, just copy the Cache folder, which was discussed in the review above, and place it in the place where the new browser is installed.

How to overwrite old data with new

To update the cache, you just need to clear it (read how to clear the cache above), after which it will be created again and can be considered updated.

Both comments and trackbacks are currently closed.

These are snippets of sites that are automatically saved when you visit them. This is done to speed up the work on the Internet. When you visit the page again, it does not completely reload from the network, but part of it is taken from the Cache.

In popular browsers, you can change the cache size.

Designed to speed up surfing, this feature often has negative sides:

  • When updating the design, the page is displayed incorrectly, because fragments of old versions are saved on disk.
  • An overflowing cache starts to slow down the program. And although the properties of the browsers themselves contain periodic clearing of the buffer memory, often this is not enough and you have to delete everything manually.

If you like to watch movies online or play online games, you may not have enough provided volume. When there is no room for new data, overwriting of old data begins. As a result, braking in games and when watching videos. In such a situation, you need to increase the browser cache.

Changing memory in popular browsers

Consider how to increase the browser cache in Google Chrome. This option is not provided in the application settings, but you can set the memory size using the shortcut on the desktop:

The cache in Chrome is not fixed by default. It forms it depending on the characteristics of the system and free space on the hard drive. But you can see the current cache size:

Increase the volume gradually until you achieve a result that suits you, do not immediately enter sky-high values. An inflection in one direction or another never reflects positively on work.

Unlike Chrome, the Opera browser has a fixed default size and the ability to change it is provided in the interface:

  1. To increase the cache in Opera, go to the main menu of Opera, select "Settings", "General".
  2. Go to the "Advanced" section.
  3. Click on the "History" line.
  4. You will see the "Disk Cache" item.
  5. There is a "Clear" button next to it. But to zoom in, click on the arrow to bring up the drop-down menu.
  6. Choose a higher value than the current one.

If the new amount of memory seems too small for you, then increase the values until you achieve the best result.

Instructions for increasing the cache in Yandex browser can be similar to the procedure in Chrome:

  1. Let's create a label.
  2. Let's go to its properties.
  3. We increase the cache by writing its values in the "Object" line.

You can find out the current and maximum size by typing browser://net-internals/#httpCache in the address bar. In this case, if the data did not immediately appear, click on the arrow in the upper right and click Stop in the menu that appears. After that, on the left panel, select the Cache line, and the necessary data will be displayed on the screen.

Mozilla Firefox also has automatic memory management. But, unlike Chrome and Yandex, users are given the opportunity to make their own changes from the browser interface:

  1. Go to the main Mozilla settings menu.
  2. Select "Advanced", section "Network".
  3. Uncheck the box for disabling automatic control.
  4. A little lower there will be a line limiting the size of the cache. To increase the memory, you just need to increase the limit value.

In Mozilla, you cannot set the cache to more than 1 GB. But in reality, this is quite enough.

These are the ways to increase the cache in the most common browsers. Somewhere such an opportunity is provided for developers, but somewhere they considered that the program itself knows better how to configure itself, and users do not need to intervene by removing this possibility from the interface. Leave your tips in the comments on how to better adjust the amount of cache memory and speed up the loading of various content by the browser.

Every modern web browser actively uses information caching technology in its work. The cache performs many useful functions, without which modern Internet capabilities would not exist. It allows you to watch movies and listen to music online, run browser games, and also significantly saves users' Internet traffic. This article describes in detail how you can increase or decrease the cache in Yandex browser, as well as why this may be required.

A cache is a special folder on your hard drive where all information from the network is stored. Copies of viewed web pages, video and audio files, data from browser games, images - all this is saved to your personal computer. You may have noticed a gray bar in the progress bar of the Youtube video player that runs ahead of the playback. This is the caching process.

Such a move allows, firstly, to realize the idea of viewing online. The movie is downloaded to the computer and played at the same time, and then deleted. Secondly, it saves users time and network traffic while surfing the web.

For example, you visited the home page of a website. From there they moved on to some article. And then they wanted to go back to the main page to select another article. Since it is loaded into the cache, the Yandex browser does not have to contact the server again to download it.

The cache memory in the browser is severely limited in size. Otherwise, thousands of pages and videos watched would simply litter the entire hard drive. When the cache fills up, the oldest data is deleted from it, and new information is written in their place.

Users can increase the maximum cache size to fit more data, or decrease it if they are running out of free space on their computer. If you do not have unlimited Internet, and you pay for traffic, it is recommended to increase the cache. This will allow you to significantly reduce the cost of connecting to the network.

How to increase the maximum amount of cache

Unfortunately, the developers from Yandex did not provide an opportunity to increase or decrease the size of the cache directory using standard tools in the browser. Users cannot change this setting in the browser settings.

However, there is an alternative non-obvious way to perform this operation - changing the properties of the shortcut. Most likely, such restrictions and difficulties are introduced so that inexperienced users cannot accidentally change something and fill their entire hard drive with cached information. A cache that is too small is also bad, since you will not be able to watch a movie online that does not fit into memory entirely.

Changing the properties of a shortcut is not difficult - just follow the step-by-step instructions presented:

Thus, you have changed the size of the local storage in your Yandex browser.

Change folder location

Solid state drives are gaining more and more popularity among ordinary users. Today it is considered very convenient to use a small SSD for the needs of the operating system and a capacious HDD for programs and information storage. This approach allows many times to increase the speed of the computer.

But when installing Yandex, you cannot select the location of the cache folder. You cannot change it in the browser itself. And it takes up a lot of space and many rewriting cycles are performed, which negatively affects the durability of expensive SSDs.

By editing the icon configuration, users are able to move the Cache to another drive so as not to clutter up the system. Open the properties menu as described in the instructions above. As in the previous case, you need to change the value of the "Object" parameter.
