Incorrect password entry

Checking the encryption algorithm used

If your tablet does not connect to the router, and the status bar says saved, the problem is due to different types of encryption that the tablet and router use.

If a newer encryption mode is selected on the tablet than on the tablet, the user will not be able to authenticate, thereby making it impossible to access the Internet.

This problem is common on Samsung and Lenovo tablets.

Follow the instructions to configure the same encryption types and resolve the issue:

    Find the field called “default gateway” and look at its value in the right column - this is the local address of the router on your home network. An example of working with the command line is shown in the figure below;

  • Enter the found address in the browser;
  • Enter your browser admin username and password. You can view your login information in the instructions for the device (router);
  • In the quick settings tab, check the type of encryption your router is using. Set the type to the same as on your tablet. The type of encryption that the Android device uses is indicated under the name WiFi in the connection window.

If you set all the settings correctly, device authentication will proceed normally, and you will find that the tablet sees the network and connects to it.

MAC filter

Incorrect filtering of so-called MAC addresses is another common cause of errors when connecting an Android device to a router.

As a rule, the problem occurs on Asus and Lenovo tablets during their interaction with inexpensive budget versions of routers.

To increase the level of connection security, you need to determine the Mac address - the physical address of the computer on the Internet.

If this address is not determined for some reason, the router closes access to the Internet.

This may be the reason why the tablet stopped connecting and an error appeared.

To adjust your MAC address settings, follow these instructions:

  • Go to your router settings. How to do this is described in detail in the previous instructions in the article;
  • Go to the “Network” tab. The names of the tabs may differ depending on the model of the router used. In the “Network” tab, make sure that the MAC addresses of the device and computer are identical;

  • Click on the save button, reboot the router and device;
  • Connect to your router again. Everything should work stably.

Important! You can find out the physical address of the user's tablet on the manufacturer's official website or in the instructions for the device. Physically, an address is a unique identifier.

You can also disable filtering in the router settings. Do this if you couldn't find your device's Personal ID.

Setting up channels

Return to the router's initial settings window. Find the line called “Chanel” and change its value.

Try to try all the values: select one of the channel modes, save the settings. Restart your tablet and router.

Automatic mode allows the router to automatically determine the most suitable channel for establishing communication with the subscriber device.

Some general information

First, you should understand that Wi-Fi technology has different standards and protocols. That is, today there are many different versions of Wi-Fi. However, only three standards are used in everyday life:

  1. 802.11b is the oldest standard, which operates at 2.4 GHz and has a maximum throughput of up to 11 Mbps.
  2. 802.11g is a standard that was approved in 2003. Allows you to achieve data transfer rates of up to 54 Mbit/s. Operates at a frequency of 2.4 GHz.
  3. 802.11n is the fastest wireless communication option, which allows you to achieve speeds of up to 300 Mbps. This standard operates at a frequency of 5 GHz.

As you can see, some of the standards operate at different frequencies. This means that one of the reasons why the tablet does not see Wi-Fi may be due to frequency differences. That is, if the router only operates at a frequency of 5 GHz, and the tablet only supports 802.11b or g mode (2.4 GHz), then it is not surprising that the gadget cannot see the access point. There's nothing you can do about it here. Just check its technical specifications when purchasing a tablet.

It should be noted that many modern routers can operate in mixed mode. That is, in the Wi-Fi settings in the router, you can select the 802.11bgn mode. This means that the access point will distribute the network on two frequencies at once, so that both old and new mobile devices can connect to it.

Weak signal

Don’t forget that different tablets, like routers, have different antennas. The access point may have a weak antenna, which means it can cover a fairly small area. However, some tablets, due to the nature of their design, may have a weak antenna, which is muffled by the metal case, which is why the reception will be very weak.

If, for example, a laptop has an antenna that runs around the entire screen, then, of course, the signal level will be very strong. But if the antenna itself in the tablet is much smaller, and is also covered with a metal cover, then the reception signal will be insufficient. This is another reason why the tablet does not find the Wi-Fi network.

In this case, you should move closer to the router (get close) and check if the tablet detects this access point. If it does, then the problem is a weak antenna. In this case, you can try to strengthen the antenna. But you will do this at your own peril and risk, since not all methods are simple and safe.

The problem may lie elsewhere. In this case, the source of difficulties can be both the router itself and the access point to which it is trying to connect.

How to identify the problem

Often the tablet does not see Wi-Fi due to the fault of the access point itself. One of the reasons was described above (difference in supported frequencies). But sometimes, in order to secure their home network, owners hide the access point. Therefore, first of all, you should go to the router settings and check whether the wireless mode is turned on and whether the network is hidden. All this is checked in the Wi-Fi settings in the router.

If you uncheck the first line (“Enable wireless broadcasting”), the router will not distribute the network at all. If you uncheck the second line (“Enable SSID broadcast”), the network will be hidden. That is, Wi-Fi will be distributed, but devices will not see the network name. You must connect to such a network manually.

If everything is turned on in the router settings, then it’s worth checking whether the tablet can see at least one network at all. This is done simply. Just go to your friends' house or to a cafe that has Wi-Fi, and so on. If your tablet sees other networks, then the problem is with your router. If the tablet does not find a Wi-Fi network anywhere at all, then the problem is with the tablet.

Solving problems on the router side

We have already discussed the basic settings of a Wi-Fi router above. That is, you check what Wi-Fi mode the router uses, as well as whether wireless broadcasting is turned on and whether the network is hidden. If all these parameters are in order, then you will not be able to configure anything else. In this case, you should reboot the access point. Simply unplug your router for 7-10 minutes and then plug it back in.

If after this the tablet still does not see the Wi-Fi network, then you should reset the router to factory settings. If this does not help, you will have to update the software, since, most likely, there was some kind of malfunction in the system. You can find instructions for updating the software, as well as the firmware itself, on the official website of the router manufacturer. If even updating the software does not help, you will have to buy a new router. When choosing, pay attention to what Wi-Fi modes and standards the access point supports.

The problem is on the tablet side

If you determine that the problem lies specifically in the tablet, that is, it does not see any network at all and does not access the Internet even in close proximity to access points, then there are several options.

First of all, you should simply reboot your device. The fact is that due to the accumulated cache (garbage), the tablet may not turn on the wireless adapter at all, which is why the search for networks does not even begin. That is, the tablet does not receive Wi-Fi. A reboot resets the cache and restores minor system glitches.

If this does not help, then you should move on to more drastic measures. It’s worth saying right away that the Android system is designed in such a way that there are no settings like on a PC. You cannot reinstall Wi-Fi adapter drivers, reset network settings, or configure the network adapter. Connection to networks occurs automatically. Therefore, if none of the above helps, then you will have to do a factory reset.

Another reason why the tablet does not receive Wi-Fi may be that the antenna terminal came off as a result of a fall (probably, there is no such tablet that has never fallen). Also, the contacts could oxidize due to high humidity or, if the device was disassembled for repair, then during assembly the technician could simply forget to connect the antenna. In this case, you need to disassemble the gadget: check whether the antenna is connected and clean the contacts.

Of course, such reasons arise extremely rarely, but they are still worth considering. Also, do not forget that sometimes, due to intensive work, the network adapter may simply burn out. You won’t be able to check this at home, and without such an adapter, the tablet, of course, will not be able to access the Internet. Therefore, if you have tried all available measures and nothing has helped fix the problem, it is time to take your gadget for repair.
