All users store information on different devices. Sometimes there is a need to exchange data. How can I transfer files from my computer to my phone? There are different ways to connect devices.

USB cable

Typically, a USB cable for connecting to a personal computer is included with the phone. You can also purchase it separately. On one side there is a USB connector for connecting to a computer, on the other side there is a connector, the type of which depends on the phone model used. Before you begin, you need to connect the device to a personal computer using a cable. Now go to “My Computer”. In portable devices, you need to find the connected phone. If you want to move all photos and videos at once, you can click on the “Import images and videos” button in the context menu. In the settings, you can also check that the device contents are deleted after import. If you need to copy individual files, double-click on the device icon. As a result, a window should open with two folders – Phone and Card. This way, you can easily transfer a file from your computer to your phone. Once you're done, simply unplug the cable.

Dropbox is a popular cloud storage service that allows you to sync files across devices. Let's say a user uploads data to storage from a computer and wants to immediately access it from a tablet or phone. Before you can transfer files from your computer to your tablet or phone, you need to install Dropbox on all devices in your homegroup. On a laptop or desktop personal computer, you will need to download the client program from dropbox.com. Next, you need to start the installation process and register an account. Here you will need to enter your first and last name, write your email address and create a password. To download Dropbox on your Android device, you can use the Play Market Store. In this case, you will not need to register. Just enter your email address and password. How to transfer files from your computer to your phone using Dropbox? You just need to copy the desired file using the combination Ctrl+C - Ctrl+V. If you need to move an object to a folder, select it on your computer and open the context menu. Using ES Explorer

Using ES Explorer, you can exchange information with your PC via Wi-Fi. To do this, go to the application menu and select “Remote Access” in the “Network” item. Then you need to go to settings and specify the following parameters:

— root folder: usually this is a memory card;

— creating an account: this item is not mandatory, however, when connecting anonymously, access problems sometimes arise;

If you wish, you can also create a shortcut to the ftp server. Now you need to exit the settings and click on the “Enable” button. As a result, the ftp server address should appear on the screen. Enter it in Explorer. The Android device's file system will open. This way, you can easily and simply copy the desired file from your computer to your phone, or vice versa. When the work is completed, you need to disable the service in ES Explorer. This method is suitable for a one-time connection. If you often have to transfer files from your computer to your phone, it will be inconvenient to enter the address into Explorer every time. You can create a network drive for this purpose. To do this, go to “Computer” and click on the “Map network drive” button. For it you need to specify any free letter. Next, you need to click on “Connect to the site...”. As a result, the Network Connection Wizard should open. Here you need to click “Select another network location.” In the window that appears, you must enter the ftp server address that is listed in ES Explorer on your Android device. Here you need to uncheck the anonymous login box and enter your account information in ES Explorer. The system will ask you for a name for the network location. For convenience, it would be better to indicate the phone model. Now a folder containing files from your Android device should appear in “Network Location”. Before transferring music from your computer to your phone, you need to enable the FTP connection in ES Explorer. When you are done copying files, simply disable it.

Total Commander

With this file manager you can exchange information between devices. There is a special icon here that says URL, which allows you to create a new ftp connection. You will need to click on it and enter the ftp server address in the line. Next, you need to uncheck the “Anonymous connection” box and enter your account information. This way, you will be able to access the files stored on your phone. Objects can be easily copied in both directions.

Bluetooth

It is worth noting right away that the data transfer speed via Bluetooth is quite low. But in some cases, this is the only way to transfer files from one device to another. Before you can start sending files from your computer to your phone, you need to turn on Bluetooth on both devices. If you are using the Windows 7 operating system, then you need to open the “Network Center...”. In the “Changes adapter settings” section you need to find “Bluetooth network connection”. Enable it using the context menu. In the Android operating system, to do this, you need to go to the settings and move the Bluetooth slider to the “On” position. Also, do not forget that the phone must be visible to all devices. Then open Control Panel on your computer and select Add a Device. In the window that appears, you need to select your phone. As a result, a special code will appear on the screen that you will need to enter on your Android device. This way you will “link” the phone to your personal computer. Next, all you have to do is select the desired file, open the context menu for it, click “Send” - Bluetooth, and specify the required device. The transfer itself may take some time.

We continue to experiment with wireless connections. Today I’ll tell you about another trick, namely how to quickly and effortlessly transfer a file from a computer to an Android phone via WiFi. Well, for example, I wanted to quickly upload a photo, video or favorite music - I need to disassemble the phone, take out a micro SD flash drive, look for an adapter for a computer, etc. Or connect it to your computer via a USB cable, which is always lying around somewhere. And then setting it up to operate as a storage device - you know, it’s a gimmick.

Application for sending data from Windows to Android

So, it is possible to transfer any files and data - videos, photos, music, books, and so on - from your phone to a computer or laptop easily and simply. Owners of an iPhone or Xiaomi are more fortunate in this regard, since by default, applications such as (formerly MiDrop) are installed in their shell.

But even for bare Android there is one interesting and easy-to-use program for the average user - WiFi File Transfer. To quickly exchange files between a computer (laptop) and a smartphone (tablet), both of them must, of course, be located within the same local network. We find this program in the Play Market by name, install it and launch it.

In the program window, click on the “Start” button and receive a link to the IP address that is set for your phone or tablet.

We copy it and open it in the computer browser. My address looks like 192.168.1.88:1234. We go through it and get to the html page, which is a complete catalog of all files and folders on the phone - both on the internal memory and on the SD card. and we have full access to them - you can copy, move, archive and delete.

The right column displays information about the amount of space used, as well as the phone's battery indicator. You can play around with all these files, but now we are interested in the question - how to transfer a file to your phone via WiFi?

Transfer files from a computer or laptop to an Android smartphone

To do this, first go in the main window to the directory where we want to upload the file, and then again look at the right column and click on the “Select file” button to transfer one file to the phone or “Select folder” to transfer an entire folder at once.

Select the required file on your computer - it will be added to the queue of tasks for execution.

Next, click “Start downloading” and wait for the process to complete. Once completed, the page will reload and you will see the newly transferred document in the list of files in the main window. You can immediately rename it right away “without leaving the cash register”.

Now you can return to the phone, click the “Stop” button and check whether this file is really on the phone. From the screenshot below everything is clearly visible. By the way, the picture was a screenshot of a page on my website with a traffic counter with the number “7900” on it - that’s how many people visited the blog on January 2nd - great news, the ranks of our friends are steadily growing!

This is such a good application, with which, by the way, you can easily transfer large files to your phone, and over a fairly long range of the WiFi network, which cannot be said about Bluetooth.

There is also another way to cross-platform transfer photos between different gadgets through, but I will write about it another time.

In general, I don’t know if this article can be useful to anyone, since transferring files to a phone is usually no problem. Nevertheless, I undertake to write about this; in the course of the article I will talk about the following things:

Transfer files to and from your phone via USB

This is perhaps the easiest way: just connect the phone and the USB port of the computer with a cable (the cable is included in almost any Android phone, sometimes it is part of the charger) and it will be defined in the system as one or two removable drives or as a media device - depending on the Android version and the specific phone model. In some cases, you will need to press the “Enable USB storage” button on the phone screen.

In the example above, the connected phone is defined as two removable drives - one corresponding to the memory card, the other to the phone's internal memory. In this case, copying, deleting, transferring files from computer to phone and vice versa is carried out in exactly the same way as with a regular flash drive. You can create folders, organize files the way you want, and do anything else (it's best to leave the automatically created application folders alone unless you know exactly what you're doing).

In some cases, the phone in the system may be identified as a media device or “Portable Player”, which will look something like the picture above. By opening this device, you can also access the device's internal memory and SD card, if available. If your phone is detected as a portable player, when copying certain types of files, you may receive a message stating that the file cannot be played or opened on the device. You shouldn't pay attention to this. However, in Windows XP this may result in you simply not being able to copy the files you need to your phone. Here I can advise or change the operating room system to a more modern one, or use one of the methods that will be described below.

How to transfer files to your phone over Wi-Fi

It is possible to transfer files over Wi-Fi in several ways - in the first, and perhaps the best of them, and the phone must be in the same local networks- that is, connected to the same Wi-Fi router, or you should enable Wi-Fi distribution on your phone, and connect to the created access point from your computer. In general, this method will work over the Internet, but in this case registration will be required, and file transfer will be slower, since the traffic will go through (and with a 3G connection this will also be expensive).

Access Android files via browser in Airdroid

To directly access files on your phone, you will need to install the AirDroid application on it, which can be downloaded for free from Google Play. After installation, you can not only transfer files, but also perform many other actions with your phone - write messages, view photos, etc. I wrote in detail about how this works in the article Remote control of Android from a computer.

In addition, you can use more sophisticated methods to transfer files over Wi-Fi. The methods are not exactly for beginners, and therefore I won’t explain them too much, I’ll just hint at how else this can be done: those who need it will easily understand what we’re talking about. These are the methods:

Transfer files via Bluetooth

To transfer files via Bluetooth from computer on the phone, just turn on Bluetooth on both, also on the phone, if it has not previously been paired with this computer or laptop, go to the Bluetooth settings and make the device visible. Next, in order to transfer the file, right-click on it and select “Send” - “Bluetooth Device”. In general, that's all.

Some laptops may have pre-installed programs to make transferring files via BT more convenient and with greater capabilities using Wireless FTP. Such programs can also be installed separately.

Using cloud storage

If you don’t yet use any of the cloud services, such as SkyDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox or Yandex Drive, then it’s time - believe me, it’s very convenient. Including in cases where you need to transfer files to your phone.

In the general case, which is suitable for any cloud service, you can download the corresponding free application on your Android phone, run it with your credentials and get full access to the synchronized folder - you can view its contents, change it or download data to your telephone. Depending on which specific service you use, there are additional options. For example, in SkyDrive you can access all your computer's folders and files from your phone, and in Google Drive you can edit documents and spreadsheets in storage directly from your phone.

I think these methods will be sufficient for most purposes, but if I forgot to mention some interesting option, be sure to write about it in the comments.

If you actively use a modern phone, then you probably often have to transfer some files from your computer to your phone and back. These could be documents, e-books, music or movies.

The most popular way to transfer files from a computer to a phone is via a USB cable. This method has been used since the advent of smart phones, but it is not very convenient. Especially if you only have one cable and you use it for both charging and transferring files. But, if your computer and phone are connected to the same network, then you can transfer files from your computer to your phone via WiFi. Now we will look at two options for how this can be organized.

How to transfer files over WiFi using an FTP server

The first option we will consider is transferring files from a computer to a phone using an FTP server. The operating principle of this method is extremely simple. The FTP server is launched on the phone, after which you connect to this FTP server from your computer. After this, you can transfer files from your computer to your phone via WiFi. If this option interests you, then we offer short instructions.

First you need to install an application on your phone that will launch the FTP server. For example, on an Android phone you can use the application. Phones on other platforms should also have similar apps, search your app store.

After installing the application, launch it and enable the FTP server. Usually, all you need to do is click on the large “Enable” button. In this case, no additional settings for the FTP server are needed.

After starting the FTP server, the application will provide the address where you can connect to it. This address will look something like this: ftp://192.168.1.10:2221.

Then everything is also very simple. You need to connect to this FTP server on your computer. To do this, you can use specialized FTP clients (for example, Filezilla), or you can simply use Windows Explorer, which also works well with FTP. To do this, open the “My Computer” window and enter the address issued by the application in the address bar.

After that, the contents of your phone will open in Windows Explorer. Now, in order to transfer files from your computer to your phone via Wi-Fi, you just need to drag and drop the files into this folder.

How to transfer files over WiFi using a Web server

You can also use a Web server to transfer files from your computer to your phone via WiFi. In this case, instead of an FTP server, a Web server is installed on the phone, and a regular web browser is used to connect to the phone from a computer.

So, if you want to transfer files via Wi-Fi using a Web server, then you need to install the appropriate application on your phone. For Android phones you can use the app. Install this application on your phone, launch it and click on the “Start” button to turn on the Web server.

After this, the application will provide an address with which you can connect to the Web server.

Now open any web browser on your computer and enter the address provided by the application into the address bar. After this, you should see a web interface for managing files on your phone.

In Android, data is stored in a similar way as on a computer. They are stored in folders in the form of files, that is, it is very similar to the familiar system of organizing data on personal computers.

This makes it quite easy to transfer files from Android to computer, in other words, effortlessly transfer or copy files from a smartphone or tablet to a computer, either using the Internet or without it.

Below we will talk about how to transfer files from Android to a computer or vice versa without the Internet.

If you have a Mac, then you will need to install a special program to transfer data from Android. I describe the situation using the example of a Windows computer.

If the Android device is turned off, then in this state it will NOT be possible to transfer files to the computer.

First, find the charger for your Android smartphone (device).

How to connect Android to computer

The “Pictures” window will open (Fig. 8), in which we will see the “Screenshots” folder (“Screenshots”, that is, screenshots of the Android screen that were taken on it).

Thus, we are slowly getting closer to the place in Android’s memory where it stores all the screenshots.

After double-clicking on the “Screenshots” folder, we will see a screenshot of the Android screen taken after connecting the Android to the computer.

The screenshot name is created automatically by Android - it is “Screenshot_2016-04-10-17-43-36” (Fig. 9). This name means that the screenshot was created in Android on April 10, 2016 at 17 hours 43 minutes 36 seconds. In this way, it is possible to identify and distinguish from each other the numerous screenshots that can be created in Android.

Let’s drag this file “Screenshot_2016-04-10-17-43-36”, for example, to the PC desktop into the “New Folder” folder (Fig. 10). To do this, you need to make 2 windows on the computer screen:

one window with the Android folder,
the second window is with a folder on the computer.

Then you need to grab the file with the left mouse button and drag it from the Android window to the window on the computer, then release the left mouse button.

And thus, this file from Android will be copied from Android memory to the computer desktop into a folder named “New Folder” (Fig. 11):

That's it, the problem is solved, the file from Android is transferred to the computer. Now this file is on the PC, whereas a moment ago it was still in Android and seemed inaccessible to us on the computer.

The data of interest, which may need to be transferred from Android to a computer, may be located not only in the “Pictures” folder of Android, but also in other Android folders (Fig. 7).

What folders from Android can be seen on the computer?

For example, on Android you can see the following folders:

Also, the data we are interested in can be stored in other Android folders.

You need to search for files on Android and find them for subsequent transfer to folders on a personal computer using the usual method of copying (or dragging) from one folder (from the Android folder) to another folder (to the computer folder).

Thus, transferring data from Android to PC turns into a normal and familiar procedure of copying data from one folder to another folder.

How to delete files on Android

After transferring (copying) data from Android to a PC, you can (but not necessarily!) delete this data from Android’s memory. After all, as a rule, portable gadgets do not have much free memory space. And if we transferred the data from Android to the PC (of course, before deleting it would be a good idea to check to make sure that the data was actually transferred to the PC), then this data can be deleted from the Android folders.

Deleting files and folders from Android is done in the same way as deleting folders or files on a PC: right-click on the folder or file icon and select “Delete” from the menu (Fig. 13).

It is important to remember that if deleted files and folders on your PC are first transferred to the Recycle Bin, from where they can be restored if something happens, then

deleted folders and files from Android are deleted from it immediately and completely, bypassing the Recycle Bin, without the possibility of restoring them.

That is, errors when accidentally deleting necessary files from Android cannot be corrected, as it could be done on a personal computer.

You should not copy or delete Android system data so as not to damage its software and disrupt its operation.

You can only copy and delete files created by the Android user, be it data from the Internet, photos and videos of the Android user, screenshots and other personal data. But, I repeat, in no case should this be done with Android system files and folders, so as not to damage it.

How to disconnect Android from computer

And finally, you can disconnect Android from your PC as follows:

first disconnect the connector of the wire connecting the Android and the PC from the Android,
and only then disconnect the connector from the USB port of the personal computer.

You only need to disconnect the wire when the data is no longer transferred (copied) from Android to PC. Disconnecting the wire during data transfer may damage the file system of your PC or Android.

How to transfer files from computer to Android

Transferring data back from a computer to Android is done in the same way as described above.

You just need to select the transferred files on your computer, and then you need to copy (drag and drop) them into Android folders. That is, this transfer system works in both directions.
