The Strike package is quite good: in a thick red cardboard box, in addition to the device itself and the battery, you will find a wall charger, a USB to micro-USB cable, a wired stereo headset, as well as a warranty card and instructions. By default, a protective film is stuck on the device.

Appearance

If from the “face” the new product resembles the usual products of the Android smartphone market, then the sides and back panel are attractive and individual. The structure of the smartphone is as follows: the screen and the entire core of the device are inserted into a body-forming aluminum bath. The solution is not new, but it has proven itself well and the design is strong, and there can be no backlash or gaps (although we noted some creaking when compressed). The marking of the design is moderate: if there can be no fingerprints on the back panel, the front panel, due to the glass and blackening, practically attracts them.

The dimensions of the Strike match the screen: it is medium in size and slightly above average in weight, but you quickly get used to it. The design fits well in the hand due to the smoothed edges of the body.

It should be noted that the device does not slip in the palms, and the corrugated inserts on the top and bottom add charm to the design. As for the colors, our editorial office has a light green modification, and on sale you can also find black, dark gray, gold, red and rose gold (remember, the “bath” is replaceable, but there are no cases available for free sale).

The contents of the case are familiar and we will start with the dominant feature - the front panel. Here, in addition to the display, which will be discussed a little later, there is a block of touch control keys, “return”, “home” and “menu” - at the bottom, as well as a speaker surrounded by the front camera, position/proximity sensors and an operation indicator - at the top.

The left end of the case is devoid of elements, and the right side has a combined volume rocker and a lock key (the movement of both elements is noticeable and expectedly tight - you won’t accidentally press it).

At the bottom end of the Strike there is only a microphone, and the top is given over to a micro-USB connector and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

On the back panel, in addition to the manufacturer’s logo and the model name, we find a horizontal slot for a call speaker and a rear camera lens console with a flash light to the right of it.

To remove the “core” of the smartphone, there is a ledge in the upper part of the case. Lifehack: for ease of manipulation, you can press on the rear camera module - then it will be easier to remove the filling.

Inside there is a battery waiting for us in the corresponding tray, which in turn covers the slots for micro-SIM and mini-SIM. To the left of the cards is the micro-SD compartment.

Screen

The device uses a 5-inch IPS matrix with HD resolution. Overall, the screen is pretty good for a budget solution: it has natural colors and sufficient brightness.

The picture is clear, there is no graininess in either textures or texts, and viewing angles, if not maximum, are generally acceptable.

The sensor is capacitive and supports up to 2 simultaneous touches. If everything is clear with entering text, then there have been mistakes with entering commands (possibly due to the film). When exposed to direct sunlight, the picture fades, but remains readable.

Software and interface

The device runs on Android 6.0 without any additional launchers. It is worth noting that Strike is one of the first devices from the company with “six” out of the box and this is a significant competitive advantage even within the manufacturer’s line.

The lock screen is standard: in addition to the current date and time, it displays received notifications, which, however, can be encrypted or hidden. At the top is the unchanged status bar, and at the bottom, in addition to the “unlock lock,” there are icons available for the phone and camera.

The desktops are familiar in content, although without circular scrolling. Here, in addition to changing the wallpaper, you can place widgets, folders and application shortcuts. The bottom line of screens is reserved for the changeable “dock”, which follows a red thread across all desktops, and the top line is the status bar. Flicking the top curtain down will give you access to received notifications, brightness settings, and shortcuts for launching modules.

The main menu is matrix, 4 x 6, although the bottom row inscriptions do not fit, but there is a search bar at the top.

The settings menu is unvarnished: a vertical lined list of options and a monochrome icon to the left of the inscription.

The Dual-SIM service is implemented quite competently: when installing cards for the first time, the device offers to set defaults, which can later be changed in the settings menu. In addition, you can change the map name and display color, although the event indication itself is very clear.

As for the applications, along with the standard ones, you get the social service of the “Give Life” foundation, an explorer, backup, Yandex services including a browser and hub Apps Press with various services and games that require additional installation.

Hardware and Performance

The hardware of the new product matches the price tag: a quad-core “stone”, a gigabyte of RAM and eight flash memory. In this case, micro-SD cards are present and the smartphone offers to store either multimedia content on them, or mount it as a full-fledged memory for software (although in this case the speed of operation is greatly influenced by the speed of the memory card itself - we would not recommend using slow ones).

Removable

In 2016, a sufficient number of interesting inexpensive smartphones appeared on the market, which remain relevant to this day. Among them, in particular, is the BQS 5020 strike smartphone. This model is interesting because it has a good camera and screen, a sturdy body, decent performance indicators, and all this at a price of less than 6 thousand rubles. Is this real? We suggest you look into the BQ 5020 strike review.

BQ company usually supplies its smartphones in bright packaging, which clearly shows the main advantages of the product. Here we see that the camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels, a screen with an IPS matrix and the Android 6.0 operating system. The combination, frankly speaking, is impressive for this price category.

The package includes a micro-USB cable, headphones, instructions for use and a warranty card. I would like to immediately remind you that BQ is a Russian manufacturer, so it will be easy to understand the instructions, and it will not be difficult to use warranty rights if necessary.

Design

You can purchase this BQS phone model in several body colors. Classic black looks best or, as an alternative, you can consider gray. The assembly is excellent, there are no creaks or backlashes. The parts are fitted as reliably as possible, so using such a gadget is a pleasure. The phone fits in your hand like a glove and does not cause any discomfort.

In the central part of the back cover, the manufacturer claims the presence of metal inserts. They really exist, and with their help, the rigidity of the structure is increased, and heat dissipation is also optimized.

All external surfaces come with a matte finish, so the phone does not get dirty and does not show greasy traces of fingerprints. Only the screen is relatively easily soiled.

On the right side panel there is a volume rocker, and right there is a power button. All buttons are securely and tightly fixed in the case; when you press them, there is no rattling or unpleasant sound. On the top edge you will find headphone and micro-USB jacks.

The front panel is protected by special glass. Immediately below the screen there are three touch buttons that operate without backlight. Their functionality is quite standard, but can be further configured manually.

Above the screen there is a voice speaker, a front camera module and several sensors. The main camera on the back side is somewhat separated from the total area of the lid. There is an LED flash next to the module. It is important that the camera does not protrude above the surface of the case, so it will not get scratched or dirty.

The back cover can be removed if necessary. There are two compartments for SIM cards (micro and nano), and there is also a slot for a memory card. The battery is removable, so if it fails you don’t have to immediately run for a new phone.

Screen

Screen resolution is 5 inches HD, IPS matrix with excellent color rendition. I'm pleased with the decent detailing and color saturation. The disadvantages include the fact that even at maximum brightness in the sun the image becomes blind. The phone supports two touches at the same time, the sensor works flawlessly.

Performance

The filling of the BQS strike BQS 5020 Mobile is as follows: the MediaTek MT6580 chip is combined with a Mali400MP2 graphics accelerator. This combination does not provide the maximum, but an acceptable level of performance, suitable for everyday use of the smartphone in mixed mode. You can not only watch videos and read from the screen, but also play various games, albeit with restrictions on maximum settings.

There is very little RAM and internal memory - 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. It is clear that this is not enough for storing data, therefore support for large-capacity memory cards is provided.

Camera

The main camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels and autofocus, and the front module has a resolution of 5 megapixels. Both cameras are comfortable to use through the built-in application, which has creative modes and optional manual settings.

If we draw conclusions about cameras based on experience, we can say that with sufficient lighting they can be used to get good pictures, but as soon as it gets dark, noticeable noise appears.

To better understand the quality of photography of a smartphone, we recommend watching its video review.

Software

On board Android 6.0 without any proprietary settings or skins. There are icons on the desktop that help you quickly install any application. If you don’t want to clog up your memory with them, it’s easy to delete them directly from the main screen. System updates occur over the air.

Autonomy

The battery capacity is not impressive - only 2000 mAh. If you push the phone hard and persistently, it will last a little over 3 hours on a single charge. In mixed mode it will last for about a day of work.

conclusions

The BQ 5020 Strike is an inexpensive and attractive phone with a good screen, solid and time-tested software, and decent cameras. It is not without obvious drawbacks, such as the minimum amount of RAM and built-in memory or a weak battery, but for the money the gadget looks just great.

Affordable price and Android 6.0 are the main reasons I chose this smartphone. The remaining characteristics met my basic requirements: a 5-inch screen with HD resolution, 1 gigabyte of RAM and a 13 megapixel camera.

Let me start with the fact that there are BQ phones from the Spanish company BQ and the Russian company BQ Mobile. As a result, confusion arises. Even in many large catalogs these phones are not separated, falling into one category as one brand.

BQ Strike (BQS-5020) is a smartphone from a Russian company. In Minsk it cost me 204 rubles ($102), while in Russia it costs only 5,490 rubles ($86). For this money the offer is very interesting.

Country of origin: China.

The kit includes: charging block, USB cable, vacuum headphones, protective film (already pasted on the screen), Russian user manual and original warranty card. The charging block indicates a charging current of 0.15 amperes, which is surprisingly low. In fact, the tester shows 0.77 amperes. It was unexpected to see nice-looking vacuum headphones included with a budget phone. Even the sound quality was at a good level. They look decent, there is no shame in leaving the house with them.

The protective film already on the screen is also good. After all, you can successfully stick it on yourself forever.

Appearance

The first thing I noticed when I took the phone out of the box was how bulky it was. After my compact Phicomm Passion P660 this is very noticeable. In fact, this is true: the phone weighs 174 grams and its thickness is 1 cm. The length and width of the campus: 145 and 73 mm (calipers confirmed these dimensions). All this is quite normal for a budget device. Once you get used to it, it is quite convenient to use.

Many people note, like me, that it looks great. In this regard, it “does” many budget smartphones.

The official website lists metal as the material. In fact, they are lying. More precisely, they don’t say enough. The back of the removable panel is indeed completely metal, except for two small plastic inserts at the top and bottom. The sides, top and bottom ends of this panel are also plastic painted to look like metal. That is, a metal fox is glued to the removable plastic panel, as can be seen in the photo.

The assembly is good. But there are some unpleasant little things. The lid, when pressed firmly in the middle, is pressed through and a quiet creak is heard. There is a gap between the protective glass and the body where grains of sand and other dirt get in, and cleaning them out is problematic. I don’t know how necessary such an engineering solution was in the design of the phone, but it will ruin the aesthetic appearance over long-term use. For clarity, I inserted paper into this gap.

Below the screen are three silver touch buttons. They are not illuminated. The user manual states that there is a "Menu" key on the right. However, on the desktop or in any application, it does not bring up a menu, but always opens a list of recent applications (whether you hold it down or simply press it). Central key: “Home”. Left: "Return".

When a message or call is missed, the green indicator flashes to the right of the speaker. When the charger is connected, the red indicator lights up, changing to green when fully charged.

The event indicator can be configured: Settings - Screen - Notifications. You can enable or disable notifications for:

1. Missed calls and messages (green indicator);
2. Application notifications (green indicator);
3. Low battery (red indicator);
4. Phone charging (red indicator);
5. Charging is complete (red indicator).

Screen

It is indicated that this is an IPS matrix, which is better than regular TFT. Although, I didn't notice the difference. I can't tell if it's glass or plastic. There is no information on this matter. There is an air gap - this causes loss of color when viewed at angles and glare in the sun.

The screen is bright and the colors are rich. But the black color is a little overexposed (not quite black). If you look at sharp angles, there is a slight distortion of color, the brightness of the picture drops, but good visibility of what is on the screen is maintained. Yes, no one looks at the screen at an acute angle when using a smartphone.

If you go outside on a sunny day, it is difficult to use it in direct sunlight - it is difficult to see anything on the screen. You will have to block the screen from the sun's rays with your hand.

The sensor recognizes two simultaneous touches - more is needed. I never noticed that a third touch was needed. But his sensitivity is not high. The sensor will not work on a very light touch. In dynamic games, such sensitivity interferes with control, but in normal use of the phone it does not matter.

As I already wrote, a protective film is pasted. It is easily soiled and easily collects fingerprints that are not erased with one movement, as with an oleophobic coating. I can assume that without it, the screen will have less glare in the sun, and the sensor may be more responsive, but I didn’t remove it, at least at first.

Despite the above shortcomings, the screen is good for this price category.

There is MiraVision technology from MediaTek, which allows you to fine-tune the colors of the screen. Settings - Screen - MiraVision. The default mode is Standard, but you can choose Vivid mode (colors will become brighter) or Custom mode. In Custom mode, you can manually adjust many parameters: contrast, saturation, brightness, sharpness and color temperature.

Android 6.0 and applications

There are many advertising apps and games. Precisely, they are not on the phone, but only shortcuts (icons) on the desktop, when clicked on, a link to download from the Play Store opens. Among them are links to applications: ICQ, Lamoda, Forex Club, Air tickets Svyaznoy Travel, Search for tours, News for you, Yula - advertisements nearby, Abstracts, Yandex Market. Links to games: Mobile Strike, Ocean Blitz, Dragon Soul, Vikings War of Clans, Juggernaut Wars, Heroes of Might and Magic. They are easily removed, which is what I did right away.

There are two browsers: Yandex Browser and Chrome. Yandex Browser can be removed, but Chrome is the default browser and cannot be removed.

Performance

Performance tests have never mattered to me, but I’ll still share the result. In AnTuTu Benchmark, the BQ Strike smartphone scored 18,919 points. The touch screen recognizes 2 simultaneous touches.

There are no problems with performance in BQ Strike. 1 gigabyte of RAM and a MediaTek MT6580 processor run Android 6.0 as needed. The graphical interface does not slow down; launching simple applications (calendar, contacts, gallery) takes no more than a second, like most smartphones with similar hardware. The demanding game N.O.V.A 3 runs without lag. But as noted above, the sensor is not very responsive, which spoils the clarity of control and is not convenient to play.

Connection

There are two separate slots for SIM cards: micro-SIM and a full-size slot (for a large card). There is a separate slot for a memory card. Considering that many people are now making a combined slot, three separate slots can be considered one of the advantages of this phone. They are located under the lid. In order to install SIM cards, you need to remove the battery.

Both SIM cards work on 3G networks.

The audibility of the interlocutor is good, the sound in the speakers is clear. There were no problems with the network.

I liked that if a second SIM card is not inserted, then only one SIM card icon is shown at the top. Typically, phones show a second crossed out SIM card icon that cannot be removed. There is no such thing here.

In the settings you can change the name of the SIM card and the color of the icon displayed in contacts. You can choose which one to use for the Internet, which one to choose for a call (or always ask which of the two to make a call with).

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi work correctly.

Satellite navigation

The MAPS.ME navigation application, with location detection via the Internet and mobile network towers disabled, could not determine the position for several minutes. But the GPS Test application found a sufficient number of satellites to determine the coordinates in one and a half minutes. After that, the location was determined in MAPS.ME in a matter of seconds.

The AndroiTS GPS Test application did not find any Russian satellites (checked twice on different days). Accordingly, either BQ Strike does not support GLONASS, or there are glitches in the GLONASS navigation system.

Camera

As you know, the number of megapixels for a camera is not an indicator, but the 13-megapixel camera in BQ Strike unexpectedly pleased. Not many hundred dollar smartphones photograph so well. On a sunny day, the photos turn out excellent; on a cloudy day, the quality is also quite good. You can evaluate the camera in the pictures. All of them were taken in normal shooting mode, without any settings.

With the appearance of the Russian company BQ on the mobile electronics market, domestic users finally have the opportunity to purchase an inexpensive and at the same time not Chinese smartphone. The manufacturer's catalog consists of 80 percent of models that, with very decent characteristics, have a price of up to 10 thousand rubles - and therefore are considered budget.

In this article, we will present five BQ gadgets that deserve special attention for one reason or another: some due to technical innovations, others due to their very modest price.

What smartphone lines are in the 2018 BQ catalog?

The catalog of BQ smartphones is so extensive that it will not be possible to distribute all the mobile devices of this company into lines. But you can still highlight a few lines:

  • Fox– ultra-budget smartphones, the cost of which ranges from 3,000 to 4,000 rubles. At the beginning of 2018, this line includes 4 gadgets.
  • Strike– a large line of metal devices costing up to 10,000 rubles. In this line you can find, for example, Strike Power with a powerful battery and Strike Selfie, equipped with a 13-megapixel front camera.
  • Shark– protected gadgets. The line is still small - it includes only 2 devices.
  • Space– technologically advanced and productive smartphones. At the beginning of 2018, 3 models belonging to this line are on sale - including the frameless Space X, which claims to be the company’s flagship.

Note that Aquaris is not a line of the Russian BQ, but of the Spanish company of the same name. Therefore, we will not consider Aquaris gadgets - we’d rather pay attention to those devices that, with a certain amount of irony, can be called domestic.

For child/teenager

BQ-4583 Fox Power

When advising which BQ smartphone to purchase for a child, we do not put cost at the forefront - after all, in the manufacturer’s catalog there are models cheaper than 3 thousand rubles (for example, UP!). Fox Power is good in terms of price/functionality ratio. The gadget is equipped with a 4-core processor, which will allow a teenager to download and install not only games, but also useful applications. In addition, Fox has a “bless you” battery - when compared with the notorious UP!, you can find that the latter has a battery that is half as capacious.

Advantages:

  • Decent performance.
  • Capacious battery.
  • Many color options.
  • Modern operating system (Android 7.0).
  • The minimum price means that the gadget is definitely affordable for any parent.

The partnership between BQ and the Spartak football club is no secret; Since the 2017/2018 season, the mobile equipment manufacturer has been a sponsor of the red-whites. The company's emblem appears on the T-shirts of the Spartak team.

However, apparently, the business cooperation between BQ and Spartak is developing into some kind of warmer and more frank feeling. At the beginning of February 2018, the electronics manufacturer introduced the Advance Spartak Edition model. The gadget is distinguished by the fact that it is made in the style of the club - on its back side there is a diamond, beloved by many, and an image of the famous Roman gladiator, which, by the way, is applied using Ultraviolet Rays Printing technology and is in relief. The pleasant surprises for the Spartak fan do not end with the design - the gadget contains several pre-installed club themes for the desktop, as well as the official Spartak anthem, which can be set to a ringtone.

Advantages:

  • A special Spartak package, which includes themes, the anthem of the football club, as well as its official mobile application.
  • Bright IPS screen with fashionable .
  • A wonderful 8-megapixel selfie camera with the ONE TOUCH SHOT function - you can release the shutter by tapping on the fingerprint scanner.
  • OTG support – the “Spartak” gadget from BQ can be used as a power bank.

The most reliable and durable

BQ-5003L Shark Pro

  • Memory (RAM/built-in): 2 GB / 16 GB
  • Battery capacity: 3200 mAh

    Price: from 8,490 rubles

The February 2018 new product from BQ is an improved version of the Shark model. It is equipped with a more modern processor and a sufficient amount of RAM - after all, 1 GB of RAM in these days is hardly able to satisfy even the most unassuming user.

At the same time, Shark Pro is not inferior to its predecessor in reliability. The gadget boasts compliance with the IP65 standard - judging by the reviews, it is reliably protected from dirt and dust and can easily withstand short-term immersion under water.

Advantages:

  • Low price - as a rule, gadgets like Shark Pro are more expensive precisely because of their security.
  • The display supports Full Lamination technology, which ensures excellent color reproduction.
  • High resolution front camera.
  • Capacious battery.
  • Supports memory cards up to 128 GB.

Flaws:

  • Significant weight - 224 grams.
  • The design of the Shark Pro leaves much to be desired - you can’t call it modern at all.

BQ-5005L Intense

The beginning of 2018 turned out to be an extremely productive period for BQ. In addition to the improved secure gadget and the “Spartak” new product, the company presented the 5005L Intense smartphone, which is notable for being the most autonomous in its lineup. The manufacturer assures that the device will definitely last three days without recharging – and if you use the device moderately, you can count on even 4 days.

An important feature of the BQ-5005L Intense is OTG support - thanks to this, you can use the gadget as a power bank and power other mobile devices from it.

Advantages:

Flaws:

  • Due to the battery, the device has an impressive thickness of almost 12 mm.
  • The screen has quite large frames.

For those who cannot imagine a day without a selfie

BQ-6000L Aurora

  • CPU: 8-core MediaTek Helio P25, 2400 MHz
  • Screen: 6 inches, HD+ resolution (1440×720)

  • Memory (RAM/built-in): 4 GB / 64 GB
  • Battery capacity: 4010 mAh

    Price: from 14,280 rubles

The flagship device from BQ turned out to be “tailored” for those who like to regularly update their Instagram feed with new original selfies. Aurora is one of the few mobile devices that are equipped with dual front cameras. The second “eye” on the front provides the user with a lot of possibilities - thanks to it, you can take wide-format selfies and pictures of your loved one with a fashionable background blur effect.

While the dual selfie camera is considered the main advantage of the BQ Aurora, this smartphone also has other advantages. For example, it boasts excellent performance, which is provided by a modern 8-core processor from MTK. The gamer will not have to make compromises - Aurora can handle even demanding games and applications without any problems.

Advantages:

  • Dual front camera with high resolution and a huge number of preset filters and settings.
  • Fast fingerprint scanner, located very conveniently.
  • Face Unlock support.
  • Sufficient amount of memory – both RAM and user.
  • Excellent battery life - even with its 6-inch screen, the smartphone can live for 2-3 days without recharging.
  • Pre-installed launcher.

Flaws:

Conclusion

If a buyer wanders into the BQ catalog in search of a budget phone, he will almost certainly find what he needs. BQ gadgets “do not grab stars from the sky” and rarely appear in the news, but they are better suited to the role of “workhorses” than other devices.

Russian BQ has already earned an excellent reputation as a manufacturer of budget phones, and is now trying to conquer the middle price segment. And it should be noted that if it continues to produce devices as wonderful as Space X and Aurora turned out to be, its success is definitely not far off.
