Samsung's pink screens are back. Now also in Galaxy S8. Galaxy S8 owners complain about problems with the screen Video: why the pink display in the Galaxy S8

Each new smartphone model from Samsung becomes almost a bestseller and gathers a huge number of reviews. But while some models are famous for their problems, such as the Galaxy S7, others are gaining popularity due to their advantages. One of the main advantages of the new Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone is the screen, but since it is almost impossible to surprise the average user with its dimensions alone, the Korean manufacturer has put really good characteristics into its product. Let's figure out what features the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ screens have.

Fast passage:

Screen options

Samsung has equipped its new smartphones with stunning screens, which have already received many awards and are considered one of the best.

Users can enjoy not only high-quality images, but also ease of use, since this element is rounded at the edges, which means that the new gadget will fit most comfortably in the hand, regardless of size.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ have a Super AMOLED display with a maximum resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels. The difference between the models is the screen diagonal (5.9 inches in S8 and 6.2 inches in S8+), as well as pixel density. In the regular version this figure is 586 ppi, and in the extended version 531 ppi.

Galaxy S8+ pink screen?

One of the advantages of a smartphone is the ability to fine-tune image quality. Owners can independently change the resolution, color tone and many other characteristics.

However, many people are concerned about the question - why, instead of white, the screen in the Galaxy S8 is pink? The owners of some devices have discussed this issue in detail, see the video below.

Conclusion: the screen really turns pink, this is a feature of the matrix manufacturing technology and Samsung representatives offer users the following options for solving the problem:

  1. Try adjusting the screen using the available color sliders
  2. If you don’t like it, return your smartphone for a replacement, fortunately it’s free and fast

Impact resistant glass

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ fully comply with the IP68 protection class, which means not only that the device will withstand immersion in water, but also successfully survive falls. The screens of gadgets are protected by impact-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 5th generation, which has not only high strength characteristics, but also high throughput, that is, the image from the phone will not be distorted, and sunlight will not interfere with the user.

Display drop tests

Launching a new smartphone on the market is a rather complicated procedure, which is accompanied by many tests and checks. One of them is a drop test - checking the stability of the gadget to falls. Since laboratory conditions are quite easy to compromise, it is almost impossible to deceive the inhabitants of the global network.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ have already passed many amateur drop tests, most of which are presented on the Internet, in the form of comparisons with popular flagships from other companies. The new smartphones survive a 91 cm drop with minimal damage in the form of small chips on the edges of the display, regardless of whether the phone was dropped face down or landed on a corner. From a distance of 151 cm from the ground, external damage is much more significant and a “cobweb” can already form here. But regardless of the height, the screen still continues to function normally, although it does not look as attractive.

Is the Galaxy S8 display really shockproof?

Based on these drop tests, the screen of the Galaxy S8 can be called shock-resistant, as it continues to work normally even after several serious falls. External damage is most noticeable precisely at the corners of the gadget, where the so-called “cobweb” begins to form. But even in places where it is formed, the display remains sensitive to touch and functional. Do not also forget that Gorilla Glass 5 is still the same glass, so small fragments can cause discomfort and even cut into your finger. Therefore, after buying a gadget, it is better to place it in a special case.

How to replace the Galaxy S8 display if broken?

The procedure for replacing the display in the new line of smartphones from Samsung will cause many problems for the average user, and this is facilitated by both the complexity of the assembly and the specifics of the element itself. Another nuance is the cost of the spare part, which is about $200-240, which is almost half the cost of the gadget.

It is better to replace it in service centers, and carrying out the procedure at home, unless you have serious skills, is not recommended.

Last year, many buyers of last year's flagship Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge encountered a number of problems regarding the image quality on the screen of their new smartphones. Now (as reported by ZDNet), Korean users who managed to receive the latest Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ began to complain about similar symptoms.

The South Korean IT communities Ruliweb and Ppomppu have already published many photographs about these problems. The search query “Galaxy S8 red (pink) screen” has become one of the most popular in the top of the South Korean search engine Naver. ZDNet also added that "A Samsung PR representative explained to local press that the pinkishness of the screen is not a manufacturing defect; users can simply go into the settings menu and change the configuration."

On the other hand, in the service centers, where some of the users with problem phones managed to contact, they were told that the phones would be replaced. Samsung has not yet confirmed this, but additional information will likely arrive over the next few days.

It is worth adding that the pinkishness of the image is quite common on some devices with Super AMOLED screens (but it strongly depends on the specific screen, brightness level, and is often noticeable only when viewed from the sides). The problem affected many popular devices, including Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 4 smartphones, Galaxy Tab S tablets, and others): some of them had a similar excessive “pinkishness” or “purple” at any brightness, and even when looking perpendicular to them. Such screens became an unpleasant surprise for online shoppers - because they did not have the opportunity to check the screen in advance. If you google " samsung pink tint" or "samsung purple tint", then the scale of the problem on a global scale becomes obvious. However, Samsung service centers replaced such screens for free (unless you had to wait a couple of weeks for a new screen). Since in these cases the image was clearly distorted, it can be considered a manufacturing defect that could (and should) be identified before the device left the factory.

Today, in most countries, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones have yet to get into the hands of customers, so if screen pinkness becomes a serious problem, we will definitely hear about it again.

As soon as the first pre-order users received the Galaxy S8 and S8+, flagship owners began to complain about the reddish tint of the screen of their new products. Samsung recommended that owners of new products independently adjust the phone screen settings, since there could not be a problem at the hardware level. But it turned out that everything is not so simple.

Users were unable to change the color balance because it was already optimized in software. As a result, the redness of the display remained. In such cases, the South Korean manufacturer advised taking the device to a service center and replacing it.

During a conference call dedicated to the financial results of the first quarter of 2017, Samsung Electronics explained the situation with the reddish tint of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus displays.

“By their nature, Super AMOLED displays may have natural color variations. Users can optimize the color based on their preferences.”

The manufacturer has tested all devices and is confident in their quality. In addition, Samsung has promised to release an update that will allow owners of phones with reddish displays to better adjust the colors on the screen.

After this, the profile resource SamMobile announced the beginning of distribution of an update in Korea for the Galaxy S8 labeled SM-G950N and S8+ labeled SM-G955N, which solves this problem.

Firmware G950NKSU1AQDG or G950NKSU1AQDG adds new options in Adaptive Display mode, allowing you to adjust the color balance to your taste. In addition, the new Screen Edge Color Balance feature allows you to adjust the colors on the edges of the display. The date of distribution of the update in other regions remains unknown at the moment.

Caused heated discussions on the Internet by the media. It seemed that nothing could overshadow such a grandiose release of the Korean flagship with an infinite display, but, alas, there was some unpleasant news. The first users of the eighth Galaxy report that their display has a red tint. The photo below will give you the most complete idea of the problem.

Sales of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in Russia have not yet begun, but many are already beginning to wonder whether it will turn out the same way as in the case with - you buy a top-end smartphone for a lot of money, which will later turn into a lot of problems for you.

The first owners of the new Galaxy S8 in South Korea, where sales are booming, discovered a flaw. The Galaxy display is red, which should not be the case. An attempt to tinker with the system settings did not end in success, which is why some were forced to turn directly to the manufacturer for an answer to the question.

Samsung is confident that this problem has nothing to do with defective internal components, etc. It's all about the device settings. However, users were never able to correct this defect on their own. Nevertheless, the official manufacturer is ready to accept dissatisfied customers at its service center to help eliminate the bug.

Start of sales in Russia

Recall that in Russia it will be possible to buy the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 + on April 28. The price of the younger version is 54,990 rubles, eldest - 59,990 rubles. Let's hope that this problem will bypass Russian users, but if anything, write in the Comments about detecting a red screen.

Some new Galaxy S8 owners complain that their smartphone screens have an unpleasant reddish tint. The first to complain about the “red screen” of the S8 were the South Koreans, who, for obvious reasons, received the new products earlier than others.

True, Samsung did not understand the claims of their compatriots and recommended that they read the manual a little and adjust the smartphone screen settings themselves, since there is no bug and there cannot be.

However, it is clear that this story will not end just like that. On the Internet, complaints about the red screen of the Galaxy S8 are only multiplying as the smartphone spreads around the world.

And there are already opinions that there is a manufacturing defect. The situation gradually ceased to be inconspicuous and, in addition to ordinary users, very qualified specialists began to join in discussing it.

Raymond Soneira, one of the experts at DisplayMate Technologies, recently loudly who called the display of the new Galaxy S8 the best on the market, studied the identified problem in detail and stated that he had not yet been able to detect anything supernatural or terrible.

“Both of my Galaxy S8s are carefully calibrated and at factory settings the screens do not show any redness,” BGR quotes Soneira’s letter. “However, users can make the “white point” slightly reddish or bluish by applying custom settings and adjusting the screen color using the slider available in the “Screen Settings” section. In this way, I can reproduce the published photo. In addition, a blue filter can give the screen a reddish tint, which can be turned on together with the Night Shift mode in the same settings.”

The "deep red" OLED I talked about in my Galaxy S8 article doesn't involve changing the white point, Soneira writes. “It is also mentioned that problems with the color balance of the screen may be caused by “diamond” pixels, which have twice as many green subpixels, but this is also nonsense.”

At the same time, the expert acknowledges the possibility that in some cases the “red screen” of the Galaxy S8 may actually be the result of “a defect, incorrect factory settings or a software error.” But still, according to Soneira, in this case the most likely explanation is still only the setting. In general, the user can only hope that if the screen of his Galaxy S8 suddenly turns red, then this problem can be fixed without extra effort and expense...

[ADDITED 04/26/2017]:

Samsung acknowledged the widespread nature of the problem associated with incorrect white balance and promised to fix it remotely. In an interview with reporters from The Wall Street Journal, a Samsung representative announced that by the end of April, all owners of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ without exception will receive a software update. The update will allow you to color correct the screen at your discretion and will allow you to get rid of the annoying redness of the display.
