In this article I will talk about several ways to convert the FB2 format to a Word document. As a result, we will receive a file in *.doc or *.docx format, and we can make any changes.

You can use various programs for this. But finding them on the Internet turned out to be not easy, and those that are found can infect your computer with a virus, or install a lot of unnecessary and completely unnecessary things. Therefore, I will not talk about them, especially since there are other ways.

Using online converters

I'll start with popular online converters. There are quite a lot of them, but the most common are Cionvertio and Ebook. To get to the desired Cionvertio page, follow the link: https://convertio.co/ru/fb2-doc/. Everything is very simple there: upload the file and click on the desired button.

With Ebook everything is similar, but let's look at it as an example. It's called Online Converter. Ebook refers to electronic books. Since we will be working with a Word document, the link will look like: https://document.online-convert.com/ru/convert-to-docx. It says document instead of ebook. Follow it to the page of the site that interests us.

Here you need to upload what you will remake in DOCX. You can choose from your computer, cloud storage, or add a link from the Internet. I'll use the first option.

Find a book in FB2 on your computer, select it and click .

It will be loaded and the name will appear next to the button. Then click "Convert file".

Wait a moment and a success message will appear.

The converted document is automatically saved on your computer. So go to the folder and find it there. Its name will be changed, so look by date.

After opening, a line about protected viewing will appear. To remove it, click on the button "Allow editing".

My document converted from fb2 to Word looks like this. The pictures remained in place, as did the text. The indents between paragraphs have disappeared and the spacing between lines has changed, but this is easy to fix.

Changing the extension

If you don't want to use online services, then there is another option. To do this, we will have to change the extension of the document we need and copy all its contents.

Look, if there is no “.fb2” after the name, then click in Explorer.

In the list that opens, select "Folder and Search Options".

If Word 2016 is installed, then select “View” at the top, then the “Options” button, and in it the sub-item "Change folder and search options".

After this, an extension will be added to the name. Change "fb2" to "html".

Confirm this action in the next window.

By double-clicking on the file, it will open in the browser. Select all the text - press "Ctrl+A", and copy it - "Ctrl+C".

Create a new document in MS Word and paste text there - press “Ctrl+V”.

Directly opening the desired file in Word

Instead of converting, you can use a generally simple method - open a document in fb2 format directly in Word. To do this, launch a text editor, select the “File” tab at the top, then the item.

If it opens via Protected View, then allow editing. After this, the page will look like the screenshot below. The text remains, but its formatting is lost, and the pictures are also missing.

To save the file, go to the first tab at the top and select .

Specify the folder on your computer where you want to place it, select “Word Document” in the “Type” field and click “Save”.

These are the ways you can convert a document in FB2 format to DOCX or DOC. Each of them has its own shortcomings, formatting is lost somewhere, pictures are lost somewhere. Choose the one that suits you best.

FB2 is a popular format for storing e-books. Applications for viewing such documents, for the most part, are cross-platform, available on both desktop and mobile operating systems. Actually, the demand for this format is dictated by the abundance of programs intended not only for viewing it (more details below).

The FB2 format is extremely convenient to read, both on a large computer screen and on the much smaller displays of smartphones or tablets. And yet, sometimes users need to convert an FB2 file into a Microsoft Word document, be it the legacy DOC or the DOCX that replaced it. We will tell you how to do this in this article.

As it turns out, finding a suitable program for converting FB2 to Word is not so easy. There are quite a lot of them, but most of them are either simply useless or even unsafe. And if some converters simply cannot cope with the task, others will also pollute your computer or laptop with a bunch of unnecessary software from a well-known domestic corporation, so eager to get everyone hooked on its services.

Using online resources for conversion

So that you don’t have to search for a suitable site for a long time, we found it, or rather they, for you. All you have to do is choose the one that you like best.

Let's look at the online conversion process using the Convertio resource as an example.

1. Upload a document in FB2 format to the website. To do this, this online converter offers several methods:

• Specify the path to the folder on your computer;
• Upload a file from Dropbox or Google Drive cloud storage;
• Provide a link to the document on the Internet.

Note: If you are not registered on this site, the maximum file size that can be uploaded cannot exceed 100 MB. Actually, in most cases this will be enough.

2. Make sure that FB2 is selected in the first window with the format; in the second, select the appropriate format for the Word text document that you want to receive in the end. This could be DOC or DOCX.

3. Now you can convert the file, just click on the red virtual button "Convert".

4. Download the converted file to your computer by clicking the green button "Download", or save it to cloud storage.

Now you can open the saved file in Microsoft Word, however, all the text will most likely be written together. Therefore, you will need to adjust the formatting. For greater convenience, we recommend placing two windows next to each other on the screen—an FB2 reader and a Word one—and then begin dividing the text into fragments, paragraphs, etc. Our instructions will help you cope with this task.

Some tricks for working with the FB2 format

The FB2 format is a kind of XML document that has much in common with common HTML. The latter, by the way, can be opened not only in a browser or a specialized editor, but also in Microsoft Word. Knowing this, you can quite easily convert FB2 to Word.

1. Open the folder with the FB2 document that you want to convert.

2. Left-click on it once and rename it, or rather, change the specified format from FB2 to HTML. Confirm your intentions by clicking "Yes" in a pop-up window.

Note: If you cannot change the file extension and can only rename it, follow these steps:

3. Now open the renamed HTML document. It will be displayed in a browser tab.

4. Highlight page content by clicking "CTRL+A", and copy it using the keys "CTRL+C".

Note: Some browsers do not copy text from such pages. If you encounter a similar problem, simply open the HTML file in another web browser.

5. The entire contents of the FB2 document, more precisely, the HTML, is now on the clipboard, from where you can (even need) paste it into Word.

Launch MS Word and click "CTRL+V" to paste copied text.

Unlike the previous method (online converter), converting FB2 to HTML and then inserting it into Word preserves the text breakdown into paragraphs. And yet, if necessary, you can always change the text formatting manually, making the text more readable.

Opening FB2 in Word directly

The methods described above have certain disadvantages:

• text formatting may change during conversion;

• images, tables, and other graphic data that may be contained in such a file will be lost;

• Tags may appear in the converted file, fortunately, they are easy to remove.

Opening FB2 in Word directly is not without its drawbacks, but this method is in fact the simplest and most convenient.

1. Open Microsoft Word and select the command in it "Open other documents"(if the latest files you worked with are shown, which is relevant for the latest versions of the program) or go to the menu "File" and press "Open" there.

2. In the Explorer window that opens, select "All files" and specify the path to the document in FB2 format. Click on it and click open.

3. The file will open in a new window in Protected View. If you need to change it, click the button "Allow editing".

Note: XML elements included in the FB2 file will be removed

Thus, we opened an FB2 document in Word. All that remains is to work on the formatting and, if necessary (most likely yes), remove tags from it. To do this, press the keys "CTRL+ALT+X".

1. Go to menu "File" and select a team "Save as".

2. In the drop-down menu located under the line with the file name, select the DOCX extension. If necessary, you can also rename the document.

3. Specify the path to save and click "Save".

Converters between DOC and FB2

Converters in the Windows environment are in great demand, since for the system all these DjVu, PDF, DOC, DOCX, FB2, HTML are different structures, although they can all contain the same document. These file formats are complex because each company that developed them had its own ideas about how best to store a document in a file. The matter is further complicated by the fact that most formats are closed, that is, only “its own” program can “high-quality” open a document (for example, for editing). Converters allow you to convert one document format to another without losing information, although in some cases there will often be errors in formatting and processing of objects embedded in the document. We will tell you how to combine DOC and FB2 formats, or, in other words, how to convert DOC to FB2 or vice versa. The program managed to download all the texts from FB2, but at the same time lost the illustrations. Saving in Word format ended with an error and the program crashed. Convert DOC to FB2 works, but complex documents may not be converted correctly - tables, pictures, etc. Apparently, the package uses libraries built into Word, which cause frequent conflicts when saving a document. In general, the program looks so dull and ancient (there’s not even a menu) that it’s scary to think what less-promoted analogues can offer.

This converter is on par with the flagship described above, considering that FB2 can be squeezed into DOC manually, but the other way around is more difficult. As expected, Convert DOC to FB2 works well only on relatively simple documents. If you come across formulas, tables, pictures, don’t expect them to be converted normally. It is especially sad that many other programs that have the same shortcomings are built on the basis of this converter.

A program similar to Any2FB2, only the source files can be in HTML and DOC format. The program works in semi-automatic mode, so it was difficult to understand it. In any case, the DOC document fed to her went “nowhere,” and an attempt to convert it resulted in the creation of a correct FB2 file of 1 kilobyte (!). But this is already an achievement for the first test. Having looked at the reviews of other participants, we can say that the program works more or less normally with simple documents, but you need to get used to it.

Conclusion: There are no good programs for automatic conversion between DOC and FB2 yet, but there are still attempts to develop it.

Tricks and Tricks

1. The FB2 format is a specialized XML document format. This format has much in common with the regular HTML format, which can be rendered by any browser. Simply rename the file, replacing the extension from FB2 to HTML, and then double-click on it. The text in the browser can then be copied and pasted into a MS Word document.
2. Another opportunity" FB2 to DOC converter” – open Word, then through the “open” menu simply open the document, indicating “all files” in the drop-down menu. This works in all versions of Word, but it leaves extra tags in the text. If you are using Word 2003 or newer, tags can be removed from the text by pressing Ctrl-Alt-X. Simple text will remain. 3. In general, the FB2 format is surprisingly simple and transparent, so it will not cause difficulties for users familiar with HTML. If you don’t have the necessary converters at hand, you can easily manually remove tags from the text, as well as remove the code for the pictures at the end of the document - we get a TXT format that can be opened anywhere.
