Are there any problems with the iPhone 8. Why does the iPhone slow down and how can you speed it up? Resetting iOS System Settings

What happened to the owner of the new one. A Taiwanese woman complained about the swollen battery of her recently purchased smartphone. Now a number of Chinese media reports that the number of such cases continues to grow - currently there are not three, but about ten. The American news publication TechCrunch reported that Apple has launched an official investigation.
An Apple spokesperson confirmed that the company is looking into the issue of battery swelling in the new flagship. In addition to Taiwan, incidents have been reported in China, Japan, Greece, and Canada. About how many devices in question, Apple representatives are still silent. All users who posted photos of an iPhone 8 Plus with a swollen battery claim that they used original chargers. Moreover, several victims discovered that the smartphone’s battery was swollen even before unpacking. Fortunately, in none of the cases did the damaged battery catch fire, so no users were harmed.

Apple has seized all known defective iPhone 8 Plus for investigation. The technology giant refused to comment on the current situation for unknown reasons. Probably, the problem with the battery in some copies of the iPhone 8 Plus is due to a manufacturing defect in the first batch of smartphones. Companies face this in the first month after the start of sales of new devices. Be that as it may, it is worth waiting for an official statement from Apple.

Apple surprises with its oak-headedness for the last 4 years. And if the first time it was forgivable, then on the fourth the only emotion left was HATRED.

The other day I wrote. After 7 hours, the phone was dead, and I had nothing with me except the phone kit. It would seem, what is the problem?

Apple has been spitting in your face for over 5 years in a row

Since time immemorial, Apple has included the same accessories in the iPhone box: headphones, cable, charger. Occasionally there are “bonuses” like a Lightning adapter for headphones, but otherwise nothing major.

So, since 2007, an iPhone of any model, any amount of memory and cost has included the same charger.

THIS IS THE SAME CHARGE FOR 10 YEARS IN A ROW.

During this time, telephones became 4 times more, batteries too. Productivity has increased by more than 120 times. Smartphones of those times and today are simply incomparable devices in everything.

In 2017, you unpack the set of the “coolest” iPhone 8 and even iPhone X, and there is a charger from 10 years ago!

As it was, so it remains 5 watts and 1 amp. Today, only small accessories and phones up to 7 thousand rubles are normally charged with such chargers. With such charging, you will never be able to quickly charge your iPhone Plus. And if it’s time to leave, and only 15-20% of the charge is “filled”, you’re in trouble.

At the same time, Apple 10-12 watt chargers have been sold for a long time and 2.4 amperes, which speed up the charging process by two and a half times! Just 2 and a half hours instead 6 hours.

It turns out that you pay 60 or even 90 thousand rubles for a serial phone, which comes with a 10-year-old charger. Four years ago it was tolerable, two years ago it was stupid, but today it’s just a slap in the face of everyone who supports Apple with rubles.

Why is this even important?

I had a dead iPhone 8 Plus, included 5 watt charging and Lightning wire. I plugged it into the first socket I came across in the nearest cafe and sat down to type the review so as not to waste time.

1. For the first 25 minutes it didn't turn on at all. Showed a black screen and a dead battery.

3. I pick it up and it’s 10%. Stunned…

4. Left the cafe, 20 minutes later phone completely discharged again.

5. I came home furious and started writing this article.

To charge the iPhone 8 Plus with the charger that comes with it, I needed FIVE AND A HALF HOURS.

Is this a normal situation?

Five damn hours on a charge, when the phone itself works 8 hours at medium load, and 4 hours at full load. Someone at Apple thinks it should be this way. People should be fired and punished for this, because it is an inexplicable shame.

But this is explained very simply. Apple makes extra money from our suffering. Why try if you can? torture the owner iPhone Plus is so powerful that it will also buy a more powerful 12 watt charger?

In this light, I'm just blown away by Apple's audacity to officially promote "fast charging" via USB-C cable, for which most of us need to buy as many as two accessories for 6000 rubles:

  • 29 Watt USB-C charging: 3590 rub.
  • USB cable: 1990 rub.

Great idea: let's put the weakest charge in the box so that the hamsters dutifully buy more access to a normal life away from the outlet.

Unfortunately, few people make a decision to buy a smartphone based on the charging model in it. And he doesn’t vote with rubles. And since no one thinks in advance, you don’t have to worry at all and invest in the cheapest, oldest, backward in all respects Mr.

That's why and we tolerate.

How can Apple be punished for this?

No matter how much you turn around, you will have to charge your iPhones. And nothing does this as reliably as original chargers. You can give your money to the Chinese without MFi certification, but then don’t be offended when both the charger and the iPhone itself burn out.

If you already have an iPad charger (thick), use it, don’t buy something more powerful. And definitely don’t throw away 6 thousand rubles supporting Apple’s audacity to sell us paid fast charging.

There was nothing stopping Cupertino residents from including a 12-watt adapter in the kit. At least for the iPhone 8 Plus. But greed rules. Tim Cook sits on mountains of gold and trembles at the thought of losing a couple of cents from each phone to improve the lives of all his customers.

disgrace, for whom there is no and should not be forgiven.

Hello, my friends and site guests!

Already on the way to the top of the apple pyramid, today we will talk about the iPhone 8Plus, which does not serve me for long, but enough to understand its advantages and disadvantages.

In general, initially I didn’t even think about this model as a future acquisition due to its catastrophically large size. But, as they say, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

PACKING and EQUIPMENT

Honestly, I'm already a little tired of describing exactly the same external data of apple boxes. It's the same story here. This box is no different from the "clothing" of its predecessors, except perhaps in size.

The set includes several items.

1. Charger.

Consists of adapter and USB cable.

2. Stereo headphones.

3. Paperclip key.

To quickly extract nanosim. Without a key, getting it out of there is very, very difficult.

4. Small inserts with instructions.

Absolutely useless. The iPhone has become so intuitive that it is completely incomprehensible for what or whom Apple constantly stains good glossy paper with its scribbles.

But you can read Apple’s warranty statements, although they are also on the phone itself. The warranty covers a period of one year, but now most salespeople will offer you to extend the warranty to three years and insure your “apple” against theft, falling, drowning and other cases that regular insurance does not cover. It will cost about 1500-2500 rubles, so if you do not consider yourself to be a careful user, then why not?

4. Stickers.

They're just killing me. These sizes are definitely made for show-offs, where should you glue them? On the forehead? Threw it away. If you know their real use, write in the comments.

5. In theory, there should also be a lightning minijack, but for some reason I didn’t have one, and it’s not listed in the description, although it should be. Interesting.

Starting with the iPhone 6, Apple decides not to experiment much with the appearance of phones. The changes, if they exist, are so microscopic that mostly users determine which iPhone is in front of them only by the size of the device. Whether this is good or bad, everyone decides for themselves.

The iPhone 8 Plus (as well as the regular “eight”) has glass backs. This is made for wireless chargers that do not work through metals. The glass case looks quite interesting; depending on the lighting, it can “play” with light. Its glossy, stylish surface, pleasant to the eye, will appeal to those who value fashionable solutions in everything.

However, beauty here goes hand in hand with fragility, even though the manufacturer claims the opposite. It’s scary to carry such a phone without a case, but then what’s the use of a beautiful case if you can’t see it? The glass body is less susceptible to scratches, but it really likes fingerprints.

Dimensions... how much pain there is in this simple word. Even if we ignore the fact that the phone weighs a ton (202 g is a big figure for a smartphone), its very dimensions are still depressing and evoke a strong association with a shovel. Of course, the hand gets used to everything, including this weight. But when you pick up any other phone, you acutely feel how heavy the 8 plus is.

Apparently, such a concept as ergonomics is simply unfamiliar to Apple designers and constructors. With an absurdly large size, the screen of the G8 is only 5.5 inches - this is very small, because the same iPhone X with a much smaller size gives the consumer a screen of 5.7 inches. Where is the logic? I’m completely silent about competitors who, with the same size, already offer 6.3 inches.

Operating a smartphone with two hands is a thing of the past, which Apple is easily bringing its customers back to without batting an eyelid. Even if you are a giant and have the wide palm of a basketball player, using this phone with one hand will be a complete pain. In the end, such actions will lead your device somewhere near your feet.

Based on the size, some functional solutions that were previously convenient are simply failures here. For example, the settings screen that slides down is simply unimaginably funny. Logically, he should now drive out to the right or left to do it with one hand.

To summarize the design, I consider it a failure. Too big, too uncomfortable and, most importantly, UNTHOUGHT OUT.

CONTROLS

They also did not experiment with their location. On the left are two volume controls, as well as a silent mode activation slider.

On the right is the screen on/off button and the SIM tray.

At the bottom behind the grilles there is one lightning speaker connector.

In the center is the familiar “Home” button, which in fact is no longer a home button. Now this is a platform with Taptic engine technology, which has a built-in vibration motor. In the settings you can adjust the degree of pressure, this is very convenient. There is also a built-in fingerprint - it works flawlessly and lightning fast.

The front camera is on top, the main dual one is located at the back. The photo shows how much it sticks out from the main body. A silicone case solves this problem.

According to the IP67 standard, you can drop your iPhone 8 Plus into water no more than a meter deep and nothing will happen to it. I don’t know, I haven’t checked, I take my word for it.

As for the build quality, there is no question - it is high, the buttons sit securely in their sockets, do not dangle or fall out. The SIM tray is a bit difficult to reach due to the same standard, but I don’t consider this a drawback.

I already mentioned that the display here is only 5.5 inches, which does not at all correspond to the size of a smartphone. In addition, the frames of the 8 plus do not have the roundness familiar to a wide range of users. In other words, this display cannot be called keeping up with the times.

But I have absolutely no complaints about the quality of the transmitted picture. Color rendition is accurate, color balance is maintained. Perhaps in the sun and in difficult lighting it will not give such good results, since it is not technically capable of this. Still, the typical iPhone consumer will be quite satisfied with this display. It is not the best in its segment and for its price, but still remains on par.

Touch ID works flawlessly, quickly and clearly. In general, the sensor feels more sensitive, as it reacts to the most gentle touch. The exception is when you touch the screen with a wet hand, in which case it does not always work.

The screen is quite large, so watching movies/reading something is very convenient.

The non-removable 2675 mAh Li-Ion battery is a sad moment that will be the subject of furious attacks on the iPhone for a long time. And deservedly so. In an age when people use their phones a lot and often, charging them every day and several times is an unacceptable waste of time.

I think many have already heard that this model has set an anti-record in terms of charging speed. To achieve 100% from 0, you will need to wait as much as 180 minutes. This is really a lot. Of course, you can purchase a fast charger (fork out another 5000) and reduce the time to 120 minutes, but this will not really save the situation.

In fact, the charge lasts me the whole day, and in the evening I drag myself to the outlet. If, God forbid, I haven’t charged it in the evening, then by the morning I already see a critical 10%, or even less.

I can only point out one small “plus” in favor of the battery. Movies (and videos in general) do not consume charge as quickly as this iPhone representative. Perhaps this is only because the phone is new, but such are the subjective feelings.

In general, the small battery capacity is another problem that Apple is in no hurry to solve.

SPECIFICATIONS

3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory are quite modest for the appetites of a modern smartphone user, especially if he likes to take photographs and shoot videos. However, for me, after 16 GB in the old phone, such figures seem prohibitively large. Having learned to immediately delete what is unnecessary and throw what is needed into the “Cloud,” I don’t experience any problems with the amount of memory.

It is surprising when users write that the disadvantage of this model is the inability to expand the memory using a card. This is not a minus, but a fact, and an established one, even children know it; it did not suddenly arise after the release of a new device. Why take a phone with a nuance that you know in advance and that you are not happy with? The situation is similar with the second SIM card tray.

iPhone 8 Plus is equipped with the A11 Bionic processor. For me, this means very fast operation of applications, significant scrolling speed, the ability to keep many tabs open in the browser, although I have to admit that in this case, it can sometimes react sharply to opening/closing tabs. The iOS system itself is still stable and works flawlessly. This is one of the things I really appreciate about the iPhone.

Now we have almost come to the most important thing. I don’t want to talk much about the front camera, as 7 MP is a modest result, and for the same money competitors offer front cameras with much more powerful performance and better photo quality, accordingly.

As for the main dual camera, it has only two differences from the iPhone 7 Plus. Firstly, the Slow Sync function has been added to the flash. Secondly, the “portrait” mode now has 5 lighting options. In my opinion, the photo quality is excellent, as Apple has been doing for a very long time. Here are a few photos in normal HDR mode, which, by the way, turns on automatically on the iPhone 8 Plus.

This camera does not have optical stabilization.

This was my first time working with portrait mode on an iPhone. If you are switching to iPhone 8 Plus from any other iPhone except 7 plus, then you will be very pleased with the options for operating this mode. At least I was delighted with what beautiful photos you can get with their help.

How bright and rich the colors are! It seems to me that even in reality they are not so rich. This is “portrait” mode - studio light.

However, this mode is quite “raw”, I will show it with specific examples. Nobody doubts that a smartphone takes good photographs of people. What about dogs? Let’s complicate the regime’s task and let the dog be in an enclosure.

Background spaces don't add any beauty to a photo. I will note that when the subject of photography is people, I have not noticed anything like this.

What about inanimate objects? The squirrel in the “contour light” mode turned out great.

Let's consider each of the “portrait” options using the example of a toy.

Daylight. Again we see problems with the background, which also persist in subsequent photos.

Studio light.

Contour light.

Stage lighting works in beta mode on the iPhone 8 Plus. I haven’t been able to establish a relationship with him yet; I haven’t received a single really worthy photograph yet.

Stage lighting "mono". It’s more pleasant to work with, since the absence of colors can often hide some shooting errors.

When the photo has already been taken in portrait mode, you can change the lighting option in the settings. In the example with the toy above, these are five different photos.

Many people claim that this model has problems with macro photography, but I have never encountered this yet. Focus fuses with its task. Photo "live".

We conclude that the intelligent “portrait” mode is not yet intelligent enough. It needs improvement, but now you can get amazing quality photos if you put in a little effort.

GENERAL IMPRESSIONS

The main problem of this phone, in my opinion, is that at a high price, it is no longer the best in terms of functionality and features compared to its competitors. Many decisions here are of the past. Yes, he's good, but not great, and that's how it should be. For the same money, Samsung issues much more advanced flagship models, which the iPhone 8 Plus, in essence, is not, being only a pass-through model.

If you add in the absurdly large size and rather small screen diagonal, as well as the high cost even today, you get a smartphone that is not worth the money. Even the amazing photo quality cannot cover the other very significant shortcomings.

What are the ADVANTAGES:

Stylish appearance, glass body looks beautiful;
+ display, color rendering;
+ camera, portrait mode provides more opportunities for obtaining excellent quality photographs;
+ Home button with Taptic engine technology;
+ stable operation of iOS;
+ falls in price very slowly, you can always sell.

AND CONS:

Poor design that makes some previous functional solutions look ridiculous, useless and inconvenient;
- dimensions;
- the glass case is fragile, it is not possible to carry it without a case;
- slow charging;
- Battery capacity;
- inconsistency with the modern requirements of the average smartphone user;
- no optical image stabilization;
- an unimaginably high price tag even after 1.5 years of sales.

As you know, there is no silver lining. Compared to the iPhone X, this model is significantly better in price, and also has a number of advantages that users have already become accustomed to after 10 years of living in the iPhone universe, for example, Touch ID. It is simpler, clearer and not much inferior to its dear brother in terms of shooting quality. I will not recommend the iPhone 8 Plus smartphone for purchase.

See you soon and see you online :)

10/27/19. At the moment the phone is working flawlessly. Doesn't hang, doesn't glitch, updates on schedule. No lags or anything else were found. All the disadvantages are still present.

Understanding that your iPhone has become slower is quite simple. Animations for scrolling through desktops slow down, applications and games take a long time to open, and in general the smartphone slows down. The reasons for this are also simple.

Why iPhone slows down and how to fix it

1. You just installed a new version of iOS

Don’t rush to scold your iPhone for being slow immediately after the update. The system needs some time to index all files, delete the cache, and optimize its performance and the performance of applications. The smartphone will slow down a little, heat up and discharge faster than usual - this is normal.

Actually, there is nothing to fix here. You just need to wait. It's ideal to update in the evening and leave your iPhone on charge overnight to let iOS do its thing.

2. The disk is almost full

Filling your built-in storage to capacity can also be a reason why your iPhone is slowing down. No matter how powerful a smartphone is, the system will inevitably work slower if there are a few free megabytes left on the disk.

Fixing this problem is easy. All you need to do is delete anything unnecessary or dump photos and videos onto your computer or save them to the cloud. Starting from , it’s convenient to clear free space directly on your smartphone from the “iPhone Storage” menu, which is located in the “General” settings section.

3. You upgraded instead of installing iOS from scratch

Another reason for slowdowns can be accumulated garbage and bugs from previous versions of iOS. This usually happens if you upgrade your device for several years in a row rather than perform a clean install.

To prevent this from happening, it is better to alternate the update with a clean installation and sometimes flash the iPhone via iTunes without restoring from a backup. It’s better to keep a backup copy just in case. At least in iCloud.

4. Visual effects are enabled on the old device

Modern iOS has many more visual effects and animations than earlier versions. In new devices they do not affect performance in any way, but in older devices they can cause the same slowdown.

The problem is solved by disabling effects, transparency and animations. To do this, open “Settings” → “General” → “Universal Access” and in the “Increase Contrast” item, turn on the “Reduce Transparency” and “Darken Colors” toggle switches.

There, in the “Universal Access” menu, you need to find the “Reduce Motion” item and turn on the toggle switch of the same name in it.

5. Content update enabled

The usability-enhancing background content refresh feature can also cause slowdowns by loading up the processor with tasks even when the iPhone screen is locked. Disabling it can improve performance a bit.

To do this, open “Settings” → “General” → “Content Update” and turn off the corresponding toggle switch. It's simple.

6. You are using the minimum required device for current iOS

Apple supports its devices for as long as possible, releasing software updates even for those that are several years old. So that older iPhones do not slow down, developers optimize iOS. But sometimes this is not enough.

Therefore, if your iPhone is the minimum required to update to a new version of iOS, the best solution is to stay on the current one. For example, for iOS 11, such a device is the iPhone 5s.

7. It just seems to you

As paradoxical as it may sound, decreased iPhone performance can often be just a psychological effect. Knowing that a new, faster iPhone has been released, we begin to think that our old and still good smartphone is slower.

This is just self-hypnosis.

How else to speed up iPhone

To get started, you can use an express method to speed up your iPhone, which will not require any complex manipulations and will only take a few seconds. Life hacker talked about him in.

If none of the above works, it makes sense to try resetting your iPhone to factory settings. The easiest way is to proceed in order: first try to reset the network settings, then all the settings, and then completely erase the device.

Before doing this, of course, you need to back up all your data in iTunes or via iCloud.

If this does not help, there is the last method described in the third section of this article: a clean installation of iOS via iTunes and setting up the iPhone as a new device without restoring from a backup.

Dozens of iPhone 8 users have received complaints about annoying crackling noises in the device's speaker during a phone call. The effect appears irregularly, which gives reason to talk about its programmatic nature. Apple acknowledged the problem and promised to release an update.

Cracking in the speakers

Some iPhone 8 owners have complained about problems with the device's speaker: during a call, it makes an annoying crackling sound - a sound similar to static interference. Several dozen users have already posted their complaints on the Apple support forums and MacRumors, as well as on Reddit. The Verge reports that the problem also appeared on a device belonging to an editorial employee.

In response to the complaints, Apple issued an official statement saying that this effect does occur on a “small number” of iPhone 8s, and that the company is already developing a software update to fix it. Apple did not give a specific time frame for rolling out the update.

It's difficult to say for sure what exactly is causing the crackling in the speakers, writes The Verge. The effect is observed when using both the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, with different carriers and in different parts of the world. The crackling noise can be heard during both phone calls and Facetime calls, but not every time in both cases. When the speaker is used for hands-free calling, the noise disappears. The irregular occurrence of the effect suggests that this is a software flaw, since the hardware is capable of working normally.

Specifications of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

The new smartphones iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, two weeks ago, received a modern glass body, but at the same time almost completely inherited the design of the iPhone 7, and even the iPhone 6 of 2014.

The iPhone 8 screen diagonal is the classic 4.7 inches (Retina HD, IPS, 1334×750 pixels), the iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen (Retina HD, IPS, 1920×1080 pixels); the weight of the devices is 148 g and 202 g, respectively.

iPhone 8 has speaker problems

Both devices have the same 64-bit A11 processor with Bionic architecture, neural system and built-in M11 motion coprocessor as the flagship iPhone X.

iPhone 8 received a 12 megapixel main camera with ƒ/1.8 optics and 5x optical zoom. The iPhone 8 Plus model received a dual main camera similar to the iPhone X, but with the key difference that the lenses are located horizontally. Both smartphones also record 4K video at up to 60 frames per second.

Both new products support wireless charging technology.

Problems with new Apple products

Noise in the iPhone 8 speaker is not the only problem with new Apple products. The FaceID user facial recognition system, which is equipped with the newly introduced iPhone X, at its first public demonstration. Theoretically, the owner of a smartphone only needs to look at the screen for the system to “recognize” his face and unlock the device. However, when at the presentation of the iPhone X, Apple's senior vice president Craig Federighi(Craig Federighi) tried to unlock the device right on stage, the recognition system did not work the first time.

In addition, on the eve of the start of shipment of the new Apple Watch Series 3, which started on September 22, 2017, Apple had problems with the LTE connection. When the owner with the watch on his wrist moves some distance from his smartphone, the Series 3 begins to pick up the surrounding Wi-Fi networks and attempts to connect to them - instead of connecting to the cellular network. Pre-orders for Series 3 opened on September 15, 2017. LTE connectivity is the most notable innovation in Series 3.
