Many questions are asked regarding the nuances of its use and configuration. So, one of the basic tasks that can confuse a beginner is adding a clock to the main screen of a smartphone or tablet. In today's article, we'll show you how to do it.

Widgets - this is the name of mini-applications that can be added to any of the working screens of an Android device. They are either pre-installed, that is, integrated into the operating system initially, or developed by third-party developers and installed through the Google Play Store. Actually, the watches we are interested in are presented in sufficient quantities both in the first and in the second category.

Method 1: Standard Widgets

First of all, let's look at how to set the clock on the screen of an Android device, using the basic capabilities of the latter, that is, by selecting one of the widgets built into the mobile OS.

1. Go to the screen where you want to add the clock and open the launcher menu. Most often this is done with a long tap (finger hold) on an empty area. In the menu that appears, select "Widgets".

   

2. Check out the list of available widgets (it contains both standard solutions and those created by third-party developers for their applications, if you already have them installed). Based on the titles and previews, find in this list "Watch".

   

   Note: In chapter "Watch" there can be just one mini-application, or several. It depends not only on the version of the Android operating system, but also on what additional features the direct manufacturer endowed his product with. So, on the device we use as an example (“pure” Android 8.1 OS), two clock widgets are available.

3. To move the selected widget to the main screen, depending on the shell used, select it with a long tap and place it in a free area, or simply click on it (adding in this case will happen automatically).

   

   Note: If you are using a launcher other than the default one, the first time you try to add a widget to your home screen, a small pop-up window will appear asking you if you want to perform this procedure. Click in it "Allow" and, if you do not want to face this issue anymore, first check the box next to the item "Ask No More".

4. After the widget is added to the home screen, you can adjust its size if necessary. To do this, select the clock with a long tap and drag the frame that appears in the desired direction.

   

   Having determined the appropriate size, click on an empty area on the screen to exit the editing mode.

We'll show you how to install and use them, but first we recommend that you read our brief overview of several such solutions.

1. Launch the Play Market and tap on the search bar located at the top of the window.



2. Enter a request "clock widget" and select the first clue from the list or just click on the search button.



3. Check out the list of results presented. If necessary, you can go to the page of each of them to evaluate the design and features. To do this, simply click on the name of the application.



4. Once you've made your choice, click "Install". We will use the mini-application as an example. "Transparent clock and weather", which has a fairly high rating among Android users.

   

5. Wait for the installation to complete, then click "Open" on the app page in the store, or launch it later from the screen or menu of your device.



6. If an installed widget, such as the one we chose, also displays the weather, the first time you start it, you will be asked for permission to grant it access to the location. In this window, click "Allow", at least if you want the weather for your region to be displayed correctly.

   

   When the application is launched, familiarize yourself with its capabilities, available functions and settings, at least in order to understand what it is.



7. To directly add the clock widget, you will need to return to the Android home screen again and open the launcher menu. As already mentioned, most often this is done by holding your finger on the screen and selecting the appropriate item from the list of available ones.



8. As in the previous method, scroll through the list of mini-applications and find the item whose name matches the one you installed from the Market.

   

   Quite often, solutions from third-party developers contain a very extensive selection of widgets in their arsenal. Therefore, we recommend that you review each of them in order to ultimately choose the most suitable one.



9. Having probably decided which clock you want to see on the screen of your smartphone or tablet, install it by moving it or by a regular tap (again, it depends on the OS version and the shell you use). If necessary, allow the launcher you are using to create the widget.



10. Evaluate the appearance of the added widget, if necessary, resize it. Please note that we used as an example "Transparent clock and weather" they also display the air temperature in the notification bar, and there are many such applications.



As you can see, using third-party widgets to add a clock to the Android home screen is also not difficult. In addition, unlike the meager set of standard solutions, the Play Store offers almost limitless options for choice.
