How to copy without a mouse on the keyboard. How to copy text using the keyboard. Video: Using Hot Keys on Mac OS

Initially, the computer was equipped only with a keyboard, and the computer mouse appeared much later. Such a gadget is undoubtedly convenient, but many manipulations can be performed without it.

You will need

  • - keyboard;
  • - touchpad.

Instruction

  • To copy text without using a computer mouse, you first need to select the desired text. This command uses the keyboard shortcut Shift + left or right arrow. Also, to select text, use the Shift + Ctrl + left and right arrow keys. You can select entire paragraphs and lines of text using the arrows. This function is very convenient when working with large amounts of information.
  • You can copy previously selected text to the information clipboard using the Ctrl + C keys. Also, to be able to copy text or an object, use the Ctrl + Ins (Insert) key combination.
  • Next, move the cursor to the desired location and paste the copied text using the Ctrl + V or Shift + Ins (Insert) keys. The text previously copied to the clipboard will immediately appear in the specified location.
  • If you use a laptop, then almost all such PC models have a built-in device called a touchpad. To select text on a laptop, move the cursor to the desired location, then press the Shift key + left touchpad button. The cursor indicates the end of the fragment.
  • Then press the right button on the touchpad and use the cursor or arrows to select the “Copy” item. The selected fragment is saved to the operating system clipboard.
  • In order to paste text, move the cursor to the required document or field, press the right button on the touchpad and also, using the arrow keys or the cursor, select the “Paste” item and the copied text is instantly pasted into the specified location.
  • On a computer or laptop, you can not only copy and paste text without using a computer mouse. To perform any action or operation on a computer, a keyboard may well be enough.
  • According to statistics, one of the most frequently replaced peripheral devices on a personal computer is the mouse. In addition, most motherboard models still have PS/2 connectors, lilac for the keyboard, green for the mouse. When you unplug a device from this connector and plug it back in, unlike USB, you need to restart the operating system. Is it possible to work with a computer without a mouse, for example, to restart it or turn it off? Yes, you can.

    There are several basic ways to use a personal computer without a mouse:

    • working with key combinations (keyboard shortcuts, hot keys, accelerators);
    • launching the mouse emulator from the keyboard;
    • use of a “touch panel” or “scroll ball”;
    • using a command processor (for Windows 95 – 7), or “PowerShell” (for Windows 8 – 10);
    • use of additional software (software shells, commanders, shell).

    Conventionally, hot keys can be divided into the following groups:

    Descriptions of combinations and results from the execution of the first two groups are determined by specific software. For example, the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl+N” in the Google Chrome browser window will create a new tab, and in the game “TES4” it will go into stealth mode and use an active spell. Each product can have its own combinations, which can be found in the program information or manuals.

    In this article we will look at the global group of the operating system. First of all, it's worth mentioning modifier keys. Typically, this is the lower left corner of the keyboard, which includes “Shift”, “Ctrl”, “Win”, “Alt”. Almost all operations are performed using the indicated buttons.

    The main combinations for working with the system are given in the table.

    KeysAction

    Ctrl+ShiftSwitch language

    Alt+TabSwitch to another running program/window

    On a note! When a button is selected, a frame of dots appears inside its borders. To select the desired answer, you can use the combination “Alt+D" or "Alt+H." All buttonsWindows, as well as menu items, contain an underlined letter. Using the modifier "Alt", and by clicking the letter corresponding to the button, you can do without a mouse. With proper skill, the use of modifiers increases the speed of working with a computer.

    Step 3. After confirming the start of the service, a mouse icon should appear in the tray. Now you can control the pointer using the buttons on the numeric keypad.

    The meanings of the buttons are shown in the table.

    Video - How to control the cursor without a mouse

    Using a “touch panel” or “scroll ball”

    “Touch panel” is a device for working with a cursor. The most striking representative of the use of a “touch panel” is a smartphone or tablet computer, which, in fact, is this device. By sliding your finger across the screen, you can control the cursor. This method of working without a mouse is suitable for some models of laptops and all-in-one computers.

    Important! Do not confuse “touch panel” and “touch pad”. The touchpad is a manipulating device separate from the screen. “Touch panel” – built into the monitor.

    Some modern keyboard models have an analogue of a mouse - a “scroll-ball”. It is a movable ball recessed into the body. By moving your palm over it, you can move the cursor across the monitor screen. A mouse click is emulated by pressing the ball, or by using special buttons that imitate mouse buttons.

    Using the command handler

    The command processor is a legacy of the era of the disk operating system (DOS, MS-DOS), when the personal computer OS did not have a user interface. The work took place by sequentially typing commands.

    Step 1. To launch the handler, use the “Win+R” accelerator. In the application that appears, enter the command “cmd”.

    Step 2. Use preset keys to control your computer.

    The list of basic commands for working with the operating system is presented in the table.

    TeamExecution result
    cd (chdir)Change directory
    clsResetting the interpreter interface
    copyCopying a file/folder
    delMoving a file/folder to the trash
    dirView directory contents
    eraseDeleting a file/folder without using the Recycle Bin
    exitClosing the Command Prompt
    helpCalling help
    ipconfigDisplaying network adapter configuration information
    logoffLogging out of the active user (end session)
    mdCreating a new directory
    moveMoving a file/folder to another directory
    renChanging the file/folder name
    shutdownDepending on the key used - reboot, shutdown Windows, or log out of the active user (end the session)
    systeminfoPresentation of system data

    Important! Help for each of the commands (syntax, sequence rules, keys) is available by entering the following query: “[command key]help" (for example,shutdownhelp). Pay attention to the registers of the keys. Keyphrases themselves are not case sensitive, but file/folder names are.

    For most users, the computer mouse has become an indispensable assistant and an integral tool for performing all computer operations. Meanwhile, most commands, including copying various texts, can be performed without using it by using special key combinations on the keyboard. Copying text from the keyboard without using the mouse is also often much faster and more convenient.

    How to copy text without a mouse on a laptop

    If you took your favorite laptop for work, but at the same time forgot the mouse pointing device for it, and using the touchpad gives you complete inconvenience, then the following skills will help you work with texts, in particular copying information into them.

    Before copying, you need to select that part of the text that will, in fact, be copied. You can do this as follows. Place the cursor at the beginning of the copied area. This can also be done without a mouse by moving the cursor over the text using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
    When the cursor is positioned, press the Shift key and, without releasing it, use the arrows again to select text. In this case, the Left and Right arrows will select or deselect character by character, and the Up and Down arrows will line by line.
    If you need to select text in a multi-page document, then, together with the Shift key held down, you can use the Page Up and Page Down keys, which will select or deselect the text page by page. If necessary, you can always adjust the selected area using the arrows, provided that the Shift key is not released.
    If you need to copy all the text, then without touching the Shift keys, press the key combination Ctrl + A (A - English).
    After selecting the desired part of the text, release the Shift key and press the Ctrl + C key combination to copy the previously selected text to the clipboard.

    On regular desktop computers, copying text without a mouse is performed in the same way.

    Most often, most computer users use a computer mouse to select text. However, there are situations in which the desired piece of text in a document stubbornly refuses to stand out. Instead, either a significantly larger part of the text than necessary, or a smaller one, is highlighted. In this case, highlighting text using the keyboard can help, which allows you to achieve an accurate result, saving you time and saving your nervous system. Also, selecting text from the keyboard is useful when selecting multi-page tests, as it allows you to perform the operation much faster than using the mouse.
