D link dir 615 e4 Russian firmware. Firmware installation process

Even today, during the ubiquitous wireless Internet, any 3G and 4G, the D-Link DIR-615 router is in great demand. This is a really good router as it has decent specs and the price/performance ratio is perfect for the average buyer.

It often happens that after purchasing a new router, not only ours, old software is installed on it. In general, there is nothing wrong with this. It's just better to update the D-Link DIR-615 router before the full setup.

And the reasons for flashing include malfunctions in the operation of the device.

Download software

In order to install new software on the router, we need to download it. There is such a moment that each version of the router has its own software. Therefore, we need to find out the version of our device.

How to know the version?

Everything is very simple. If you take our device and look at the sticker at the bottom, you can see a lot of information. A lot of things are written there, but the line "H / W Ver.: *" is interesting for us. The most important information in place of the asterisk. Our router version is K1, but this may be for the 615 N1 router, for example. You can write it down somewhere so you don't forget. Let's move on.

To download, go to the following address - http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/DIR-615/Firmware/ This is the official website of D-Link, there are a variety of firmware for all of the routers.

We need to select our version from the list. In our case, this is "RevK". In the next window, select "K1".

In the folder that opened, there is everything you need. The OLD folder is old. There are older software. In the BETA folder - there may be software that is under development. We are also interested in the most up-to-date D-Link DIR-615 firmware. It has a ".bin" extension (this is at the end of the file). The file itself is found in the root, in the same place where the OLD and BETA folders are.

After we have saved the new firmware for the D-Link DIR-615 router, we proceed to the next step.

Software Update

A couple of things to take into account:

  1. The software version must exactly match the version of your device.
  2. Updating requires a LAN cable connection.
  3. In no case should you turn off the router during the update.

Login to settings

Everything is very simple here. We register the address in the browser - 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. In the window that opens, you need to enter a name and password. By default, this is admin/admin.

Manual update

Here we do everything as in the screenshot. First, click on "advanced settings", then you need to pay attention to the "System" block. Arrow to the right side and select "Software Update".

But there are other firmware versions that differ in interface. Here is the instruction for the oldest of them. This is firmware version 1.0.0. In the main menu, select "Set up manually". After we pay attention to the "System" button in the top menu. And in the submenu, select "Software Update". After just as easy, select the file and update.

Now you need to wait until the firmware update is successful. You will be prompted to change the factory password.

Automatic update

With automatic updating it is even easier if there is Internet on the router. We do everything exactly according to the instructions. In the settings, you may be immediately prompted to update the firmware (see screenshot). Just click "Update" and follow the instructions.

In other versions, you need to go to the "System", select the item from the "Software Update" list there. The first way is manual. The second is automatic updating, for this, click check for updates and follow the instructions.

That's all, so we reflashed the D-Link DIR-615 K2 router.

First, a few notes on the models that came across:
- If you have D-Link Dir615 HW version E*, then first you need NECESSARILY reflash the router to firmware version 5.11RUB03beta02, which can be downloaded from the D-Link ftp server
- If you have D-Link Dir615 C2- it is first necessary NECESSARILY flash the router to firmware version 3.03 RU B09, which can be downloaded from the D-Link ftp server
Internet access speeds are constantly increasing, equipment is being improved, its performance is growing, but for previously released devices, the access speed can be very modest.

Notes.
1. Routers with older firmware may become unstable or unable to access local resources. This problem is solved by updating the firmware of the router to the latest.
After the firmware, it is necessary to reset the existing setting and configure the router again.
ATTENTION!!! After updating the firmware, the warranty on the router is not lost. But still, be careful when flashing, otherwise you can disable the device!
2. When setting up, it is better to use the latest firmware versions.
3. When working through a router and there are no funds on the personal account, the statistics server may not open to activate the Internet card. Helps selection in the field Reconnect Mode: values Connect-on demand followed by saving the settings by pressing Save Settings.
4. You can find the latest firmware version for D-Link routers on the manufacturer's website http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/. It must be saved on the computer. To reflash the router, you need to go to the menu TOOLS, Firmware, FIRMWARE UPGRADE, using the button Browse specify the path to the firmware file and click Upload.

Internet providers in Voronezh have been developing and multiplying at a tremendous speed for the last 2 years, and therefore they have to change and upgrade their client Internet equipment. For a long time, I used an ADSL2 + modem and an inexpensive Wi-Fi router as network access, but my provider decided to start, in parallel with telephone line access, to provide connectivity via Ethernet, or as Domolink calls it - Fttx. Along with this, the free service Open TV also became available, which is nothing more than IPTV over the UDP protocol. All this prompted me to replace the simple Level ONE WBR-3408 with something more functional. To my surprise, it turned out that functionality does not always go hand in hand with a high price. How and why I chose Dlink dir-615 can be found under the cut.
Brands and prejudices
It should be noted that I did not come to Dlink right away, at first, wondering which company to choose, I was inclined to ASUS routers. the company itself inspires confidence, and I have repeatedly met various firmware for them on the open spaces of the network. Without much delving into the specifications of routers, I went looking. The main parameter for me was support for N-standard Wi-Fi and correct work with IPTV. When I came to the store and asked the sellers, I got a box with an Asus rt-n13 router on which there were inscriptions that the device supports DraftN and IPTV. Setting up the Internet and Wi-Fi did not cause any difficulties, but IPTV on the computer stubbornly did not want to get along with the raised Ppoe session, either one or the other worked. Without hesitation, I decided to contact Domolink technical support, in which I was informed in a pleasant voice that this service only works on dlink dir-100/120 routers without Wi-Fi and dir300/320 with G-standard Wi-Fi. Deciding to look for alternative firmware , I was surprised not to find a single one, on this the experiments with the router stopped, and somewhat upset, I resigned myself to the lack of IPTV. A couple of months later, on a local forum, I saw an advertisement for the sale of Dlink dir-615 routers at a very tasty price, new, but without a guarantee, without thinking twice, I got on Ebay and was convinced of my suspicions about their origin, prices started at $ 30 along with delivery . Having checked the support of this model on the DD-WRT website, the lot was immediately ordered.
Dlink dir-615 revD
I will not describe the process of receiving parcels at the local Russian Post, I will only say that the packaging was somewhat wrinkled, but absolutely intact. Arriving home, I found in the box a standard set of manuals, a patch cord, a settings disk, a power supply, and the router itself. To my surprise, the antennas turned out to be non-removable, as it turned out later, there are different revisions of this model of routers. I received a D2 revision model with a completely black case, fixed antennas and a Ralink 3052 processor. Other revisions may differ both in case color and processor and antenna design. Having connected everything to a PC, and seeing the standard Dlink network equipment interface, I decided to check the work before flashing it in DD-WRT, the Internet and WI-Fi dutifully earned, TV was still missing.

The official "stingy" characteristics of the router:

Hello Linux DD-WRT
Flashing Dir-615 to DD-WRT is as easy as it gets:
1. Find dir-615 "router database" on the dd-wrt website (be sure to check the revision of your router with the one indicated).
2. Go to the Dir-615 revD2 page in the router database, and download the dlink-dir615d-factory-webflash.bin file
3. Go to the router, and find the item in the standard firmware Firmware update, point to the downloaded file and click Update.

In case of unsuccessful firmware, due to a power outage or other unforeseen circumstances, you should not panic much, this router has an emergency bootloader that you can use using the following instructions:
1. Turn off the router by pulling out all the cables (both power and LAN) from it.
2. Register a static IP address 192.168.0.2, mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1, DNS 192.168.0.1 in the network connection settings on the computer
3. Connect the computer and the router through the WAN port on the router.
4. Press and hold Reset on the router.
5. Turn on the router (plug in the power).
6. Wait 5 seconds.
7. Release Reset.
8. Go through the browser to the address 192.168.0.1
9. On the page that opens, click Browse and select the original firmware file for the router. (I will post a link to the original Dir-615 revD2 firmware at the end of the post).
10. Click Upload and follow the instructions.

If everything went well, after a while the router will blink its LEDs and go to reboot. Now you can go to the router at http://192.168.1.1/. It should be noted that the interface of this firmware is much friendlier and more functional than the original Dlink, you should not be afraid that Linux on the router is certainly a console and reading a bunch of manuals, in 90% of cases everything is configured in a couple of mouse clicks. The DD-WRT interface can be tried out at the following link: http://dd-wrt.com/demo . Those who are afraid of English can switch the interface to Russian in the tab Administration Management, which not every official firmware can boast of.
Setting up DD-WRT for Domolink and IPTV
When you first log in, DD-WRT, taking care of your safety, will persistently send you to come up with a new username and password. After that, you can proceed to setting up the Internet connection and IPTV directly.
Internet connection is configured in the tab Setup-Basic Setup and to connect to Domolink requires just a couple of clicks:
1. Type Connection select - PPPoE
2. Fill in the User Name and Password fields
3. Click Save and Apply Settings at the bottom of the page

After that, the LED with the "planet" should change color from orange to green, if this did not happen, we check the entered data again, and if everything is correct, go to the tab management and at the bottom of the page, click Reboot Router.

If the connection was successful, you can proceed to setting up IPTV:

1. Go to the tab Security and disable SPI Firewall. Click Save.

2. Go to Administration-Commands tab and paste the following text
ifconfig vlan2 1.1.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 1.1.1.255
cd /tmp
sleep 30
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14930004/udpxy
chmod +x udpxy
/tmp/udpxy -a 192.168.1.1 -p 4022 -m 1.1.1.1 -B 1Mb -M 30

3. Click Save Startup, then go to the tab Administration Management and at the very bottom of the page, click the Reboot Router button.

Explanations:

vlan2- interface corresponding to the wan port, may differ in different routers, see the Setup-Networking tab in the *WAN Port Assignment* item
wgethttp://dl.dropbox.com/u/14930004/udpxy- a site with a direct link to the udpxy file, each time the router downloads udpxy from there and launches it. I use this repository, but I'm not sure how long this file will last there. Therefore, I will post it separately below. For different routers with DD-WRT file UDPXY will be different, I selected by the scientific method, downloading different UDPXY from the DD-WRT forums.
*/tmp/udpxy -a 192.168.1.1 -p 4022 -m 1.1.1.1 -B 1Mb -M 30* The allocated value corresponds to the cache allotted for the thread in the router, I lowered this value to 1Mb. at higher values, the picture was strewed, if the image is with artifacts, you can play with this value.

After the steps have been taken, you need to check if UDPXY has started, this can be done using the following link showing statistics

Initially, I was set to buy a router, since I have been buying different pieces of iron from this company for a very long time and have never been disappointed. But after looking at the Asus, they also push alternative firmware, and somehow it broke me off paying 3-4 thousand wooden ones for the router. In general, I decided to choose one of the ovs, although my attitude towards them has not been very good for a long time, but there was work and a bunch of working computers hung on it, and in principle I have nothing to load it with, except for a smartphone and client laptops. Before buying this router, I already decided in principle that I would definitely not use my native firmware, but put an alternative one. But still I decided to try to use my native one for a couple of days, setting up the Internet took no more than a couple of minutes, including waffles (wi-fi). Everything worked except for the waffle breaks on the smart when not used for a long time, later I tried to play over the network and it was already clear that it was time to flash the router, because the connection with the servers was interrupted stably, after 5-10 minutes. Although when connected via cable, everything became normal.

The firmware procedure is as simple as possible.
  • Download the firmware from here, choose your revision - dd-wrt
  • Next, go to the admin panel of the native firmware (http://192.168.0.1/) in Firmware Update, select the previously downloaded firmware file and click update.
  • After installing and rebooting the router, go to http://192.168.1.1/, and not as it was before http://192.168.0.1/

Everything is on the firmware, but one BUT may occur, which can slightly shake the nervous system. For example, it didn’t immediately get up for me, and the firmware recovery mode completely refused to start in the way described on various forums. It helped me in this case, as usual in such situations, the "poke method":

  • 1. Turn off the router by pulling out all the cables (both power and LAN) from it.
  • 2. Register a static IP address 192.168.0.2, mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1, DNS 192.168.0.1 in the network connection settings on the computer
  • 3. Connect the computer and the router through the WAN port on the router.
  • 4. Press and hold Reset on the router for 5 seconds.
  • 5. Turn on the router (plug in the power).
  • 6. Wait 5-10 seconds (in the case we need, the WAN indicator should appear, and the power indicator should blink orange).
  • 7. Release Reset.
  • 8. Go through the browser to the address 192.168.0.1
  • 9. On the page that opens, click Browse and select the original firmware file for the router.
  • 10. Select the original firmware file for the revision of the router and click send.

In my case, I had to suffer precisely because of 4 and 6 points.

All the identified problems that I noticed in a couple of days of using the router on native firmware were fixed with an alternative DD-WRT firmware, and a more functional and adequate admin panel appeared.

It also happens that someone's indicators stop working after an alternative firmware, but this is also solved by installing drivers, which I basically ... It still hangs sideways for me, although my indicators work.

In order to get into the web interface of the router, you need to open your Internet browser and type 192. 168.0.1 in the address bar, user name - admin , Password - leave this field blank(provided that the router has factory settings and its IP has not changed).
